I am currently the sole admin. If a trusted community member wants to join me, they of course can but there really is not much to do besides approving new registrations and upgrading lemmy from time to time. In the case of me getting hit by a bus, decentralization is still given since federation with monero.town would work for at least a couple more months. Ideally, at some point in the future, the community moves away from federation to a properly decentralized system like nostr anyways.

For sure. Trocador, monerocom & haveno have also been hit. No idea why they would attack this tiny lemmy instance but I’ve learned a lot so I guess I should be grateful.

It’s still pretty broken on mobile and federation doesn’t work but it is a start :)
No reason to lose hope, I started this for ideological reasons and I won’t just stop now because of a DDoS.

Don’t worry, I get it. It’s also not really about it getting more expensive but more so the fact that you can’t easily expand the storage with our current provider and ideally we’d get one more year out of the current one before doing a full migration.

Please don’t. I’m considering to purge most votes (with the exception of like the top 100 posts/comments) anyways since they take up an unreasonable amount of space compared to everything else, will probably do a meta post asking for feedback at some point.

There was an issue with v19 but v19.1 should have fixed it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong on our end, if anything it’s lemmy-related. We aren’t de-federated by any big instances and block nobody ourselves. Federation itself is just pretty wonky by the nature of its design 🤷♂️

The lemmy software seems to have gotten rather stable, we have had decent growth and no big issues, everything you’d want for a niche forum. I am quite happy with the current state of monero.town :)

Just restarted the containers. Server usage is only around 20% so the issue is more likely to be lemmy-related and hopefully fixed in the next release.

Posting the same thing to 20 different communities is spam imo, even if they aren’t all on our instance. Stuff like this can get your entire instance banned from federating with others, i don’t think this should be supported and the people here seem to agree. There hasn’t been a rule so far but we should probably add something similar to r/monero where you can only advertise every 2 weeks as well as limiting reposts to your own community and a limited amount of others (so cakewallet can post to the cake community and monero for example).

Only illegal or completely unrelated (spam/scam advertising) content will be deleted by me (mods can however do as they please in their respective communities). So far there hasn’t really been any need for moderating and I’d love it to stay that way.
