Get the fuck out of here with your nuance. You have no business being on the internet.
- Comment on Bill Gates feels Generative AI has plateaued, says GPT-5 will not be any better 11 months ago:
This is exactly it. And it’s funny you’re getting downvoted.
We don’t truly know the depth of ML yet and how these general models could potential change when a few vectors in the equation change, and that’s the big unknown with it. I agree with you here that Gates’ opinion is just that and isn’t particularly well informed. Especially in comparison to what some of the industry and ML experts are saying about how far we can go with the models, how they will evolve as we change parameters/vectors/dependencies and the impact of that evolution on potential applications. It’s just too early.

- Comment on In the Hamas/Israel war, why does Palestine have "hostages" but Israel has "prisoners"? 11 months ago:
Right…. “massive bias” especially when they have reporters on the ground, risking their lives and other “news” agency have been drinking their updates from the IDF/Israeli firehose.
Al Jazeera also had its reporter shot by Israel (big surprise) last year for covering the Al Aqsa raids. They have also covered reporters from other news agencies getting shot by Israel in this genocide… err “war”. They are calling out Israel’s actions for what they are and this whole “massive bias because Qatari” is just straight up bullshit.
Yes, they are run by Qatar, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t won accolades in top tier neutral reporting. I’m defending them because we need that style of reporting more and less of what the likes of WSJ have become.

Systemic prejudices showing up in datasets causing generative systems to spew biased output? Gasp… say it isn’t so?
I’m not sure why this is surprising anymore. This is literally expected behavior unless we get our shit together and get a grip on these systemic problems. The rest of it all is just patch work and bandages.

Was it minority report or the matrix that showed humans storing data on glass?
Either way, this is pretty cool.
- Comment on Top Apple analyst says MacBook demand has fallen 'significantly' 1 year ago:
Right? Thats what “falling demand” should be attributed to. It’s a computer which will last years because of how capable it is. I’m not sure expecting people to upgrade computers year over year is the right metric for how well a product lineup is doing.
Apple Silicon chips are game changers, the rate of adoption is going to different compared to phones or a different product category however.
- Comment on This war shows just how broken social media has become — The global town square is in ruins 1 year ago:
This war uncovered the conventional one sided “reporting” by most big media outlets especially here in the US which was in favor of Israel, turning a blind eye to the blight of the Palestinian civilians. People called them out because of social media and media outlets changed their tune to be more “neutral” as a consequence.
Social media sucks and but one thing it’s extremely good at is disseminating information, good and bad, and it should be used with that in mind.
By comparison, that Atlantic “article” is paywalled and can’t even disseminate its point beyond the headline.
Lol.

Diablo 4. Honestly not bad, I kind of get some of the hate, but it’s super early days and as long Blizzard turn it into mtx hell, it could go the Eternal Collection route in a few years.
Curious to see what endgame looks like.

- Comment on Star Trek and The Orville, which is better/worse? 1 year ago:
Agreed. I really really hope they don’t get cancelled or something. Last I heard that Disney picked it up, so hoping it survives the Iger shake up.
- Comment on Star Trek and The Orville, which is better/worse? 1 year ago:
Imo, TNG is in a league of it’s own considering when it was released, what it achieved in terms of production value, writing, the themes it explored etc.
The Orville is really really good, and I love it, but it has a ways to go before it can stack up against TNG and it’s long list of accomplishments. That said, give me either anytime and I’ll happily watch them.
- Comment on Game recommendation, looking for easier western 3D ARPG 1 year ago:
Nearly all action games have some amount of RPG elements built into them these days. A few titles come to mind:
- Horizon Zero Dawn and then Forbidden West.
- God of War and then Ragnarok.
- Spider-man, Miles Morales and upcoming Spider-man 2.
- Read Dead Redemption, Read Dead Redemption 2.
- Jedi Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor.
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Resident Evil 2 Remake, 3 remake and 4 Remake.
- Ghost of Tsushima.
Plenty more but that should keep you busy. All of these have character progression, leveling up, getting better gear to varying degrees combined with forgiving dificulty (which you can tweak).

The best part about Lemmy/Kbin etc now are that downvotes aren’t hidden, rightfully so. Just because a set of people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the same visibility as somebody that is more agreeable to a set of people.
Niceness… will change and evolve over time as more and more people join. :-)
