Agreed… didn’t change Square to block; Square still exists and Block is the parent company. TikTok has existed since ~2016 and vine went away in ~2017, but TikTok didn’t really take off until 2019-2020.

I’ve got some sitting in water in my kitchen that have been there for the past six months. They only started putting roots out after about four? It takes a long time!

The solution to global warming, then, is clearly to just set up a massive ring of fans all pointed in the same direction in a ring around the North Pole, to keep the jet stream going

Doesn’t look like they’re pulling off of anything to me… just looks like diagonal nails

There we go, thanks for the addition! I did a lot of ML/DL stuff about 2 years ago but just couldn’t remember the term.
- Comment on ‘ChatGPT detector’ catches AI-generated papers with unprecedented accuracy 7 months ago:
Interesting that the article ends with “The new ChatGPT catcher even performed well with introductions from journals it wasn’t trained on”. Isn’t that the whole point? If you just judge a model based on what it was trained on, you just get a biased model. I can’t remember the exact word for it but it’s essentially over-relying on your own dataset. So of course it will get near-100% accuracy on what it was trained with. I’d be curious to see what the accuracy on other papers is.

Quick note - HGST enterprise drives are great but those fuckers are LOUD. I’ve had one in my PC for a number of years and it’s done great, pretty quick too - but I can hear it across the room.

Hmm, well that’s good to hear, about the whole Tailscale thing. I was a bit confused on how that’s actually interacting with the internet. I suppose that even though I can access the stuff from anywhere, I do need the account to actually do so.
To your point about SSH keys - could you elaborate a bit more? I am familiar with SSH in that it exists, but past that, the whole key thing is a bit of a black box (which is part of this whole thing… to learn more about it!)

Bingo! Thanks for the response!

Sorry it took me so long to respond - yes, yes you should! Usually I keep it dry up to 1-1.5 knuckles if that makes sense. About 1-2 inches or so.
I’d just set them in any window for now - especially if they’ll be moving soon to wherever your boyfriend puts them, it shouldn’t matter too much as long as they get some.
- Comment on Caring for new houseplants 9 months ago:
That sounds like it should last the week to me. Could be wise to have your boyfriend repot them when you give them to him - my only concern about using multi-use compost is that it likely won’t dry out quick enough and could lead to root rot. Usually it’s good to mix some perlite or other substance into the soil to allow it to dry out faster. In terms of watering, you really just don’t want to let the soil dry out. Don’t keep it soaked, because that will make the roots rot, but also don’t let it dry fully, because then the leaves may start to brown & die off. Hopefully that isn’t too confusing… Good luck!
