- Comment on If so-called AI is basically just Large Language Models, how come predictive text on my phone is bollock-useless? 11 months ago:
You’re comparing apples to oranges.
- Comment on US Question. Will the people that have to wait until 70 to get Social Security ever get what they paid in to it back out before they die since men's life expectancy is only 77 now? 11 months ago:
8 years are 2 election cycles. Much can happen in that time.
- Comment on ‘ChatGPT detector’ catches AI-generated papers with unprecedented accuracy 1 year ago:
If it writes research papers, that research still has to come from somewhere. Even if the whole study was performed by AI itself, how would that deligitimise the research? Science isn’t art, it’s irrelevant who the performing agent is.
- Comment on They use to tell us we couldnt trust Wikipedia. Now we know. Wikipedia is the only website you can trust. 1 year ago:
You’re one obnoxious fuck.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Writing is way more than creating outlines or checking the plot for problems. It’s more than even writing a first draft. In fact, it starts with the first round of edits, when characters awake and find their voices etc.
People who think writing with AI is just pushing buttons underestimate the complexity of the process, and using AI for things you’d usually use other writers’ feedback or betas or developmental editors for is just an evolution of tools, the same way we don’t scratch on stone tablets anymore today.

Kbin kept logging me out. At some point, it got so annoying, I deleted my bookmark.

It’s very simple actually. Russia invaded a souvereign country. The end.
- Comment on 4chan Uses Bing to Flood the Internet With Racist Images 1 year ago:
I guess you’d call this growing pains, and it’s good this happens this early and is being done in such a manner. There’s just no way to reason with corporate, you have to point a gun at its head to make it move.
- Comment on X stops showing headlines because Elon Musk thinks it will make posts look better 1 year ago:
Every decision he makes only hastens Twitter’s demise.

First result, searching from Japan. Maybe it’s very specific to Korea.
- Comment on Why shouldn’t I just give up on Lemmy? 1 year ago:
On sh.itjust.works, shit just works.
As for apps, I’m using Liftoff, which works well, but hasn’t seen an update for a while, and I don’t know how active the dev is. I’d rather not use Jerboa, which has been created by tankies, or any of the ad-infested ones, like Boost, because I think it’s despicable to try and profit off of user-generated content on a platform that’s meant to be free (could have stayed on Reddit if I wanted that).

People could see their reflection in the water long before they climbed down from the branches.

Will do, thanks :)
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
What do you mean by “the bad decision part”?
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
Writing, of course. I’m in the middle of a new project, which will be a pretty long space opera series. Not worrying about publishing any of it anytime soon, though, and I’m still tackling parts of the backstory and the arcs of various characters while the first part of the first book is already drafted.
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
Was thinking about that and decided to just shelve my books for now and decide later. Not in a hurry to publish.
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
Not even AI can detect AI-generated text though.
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
I’ll just keep on doing what I’ve been doing. Can’t help it.
- Comment on Amazon restricts authors from self-publishing more than three books a day after AI concerns 1 year ago:
It’s crazy that this is even necessary. I can’t imagine the sheer amount of crap people upload every day, completely ruining it for us serious Indie writers in the process.
Now people will avoid self published books even more than before.
- Comment on AI-focused tech firms locked in ‘race to the bottom’, warns MIT professor 1 year ago:
The point I was trying to make is, all the information about viruses and nuclear bombs are already readily available. AI doing the googling for you will not have an actual impact, especially considering what else you’ll need to make it all work.
I would assume you get the fear of AI from the news media. Understandable, they have a vested interest in keeping you afraid. AI is gonna steal their ad revenue, when you won’t have to visit their shitty websites anymore.
- Comment on AI-focused tech firms locked in ‘race to the bottom’, warns MIT professor 1 year ago:
There are papers online on how to design viruses. Now to get funding for a lab and staff, because this is nothing like Breaking Bad.
- Comment on AI-focused tech firms locked in ‘race to the bottom’, warns MIT professor 1 year ago:
You can google how to make a nuke. Of course, you’re gonna get your hands on the plutonium, which is something even countries struggle with.

That’s exactly what it is.
