- Comment on Microsoft Edge nags users with a 3D banner to change Windows 11's default browser 4 months ago:
It’s not that far-fetched, PDFs in my opinion are closer to vector graphics than to document formats like odt and docx. They have no understanding of format if not using advanced features, like a table in a PDF is just spaced text with lines between them, and text is just independently placed letters. In fact the space symbol doesn’t exist in most PDFs, it’s just that two letters were spaced further apart. So they basically are multiple canvases that are being painted on with letters, lines, fill areas and even bitmap graphics.
Modern PDF actually does further in the direction of a document format by providing the content in a structured way, mostly for accessibility, but also for making the format suitable for automatic processing the contained data.

One might think so, but the number 3 in the potential title makes this highly unlikely.
- Comment on SteamOS 3.5.18 Preview released for Steam Deck 6 months ago:
Depends on what you expect. As a mobile gaming device with probably the best input options, it’s still a very good choice. It might not reach the graphical fidelity of other devices, but the others won’t sustain very long without charging either. Plus the deck probably has the best system from what I’ve heard, I do own a Deck but never tried a similar device but there’s nothing really to complain about with the Deck.
For what I pay, it’s perfectly fine. Your choice of games might play a role as well.

- Comment on BitTorrent is No Longer the ‘King’ of Upstream Internet Traffic 8 months ago:
uTorrent sold out, its decline is not only due to BitTorrent becoming less popular, but also because what was once a very thin client at one point was bundled with malware so a lot of people kept using old versions or switched to clients like qBitTorrent
- Comment on Discord began blocking servers with information prohibited in the Russian Federation 8 months ago:
While discord doesn’t necessarily cost money, it for sure also isn’t free. In fact it’s the reddit problem but way worse. A proprietary non-searchable database with all content fully licensed to discord including the right to sub-license. At least, Reddit had an API and is still searchable through their public facing http. I mean I get people don’t want their group messages readable by everyone, bit for large groups, it makes sense.

Steam doesn’t enforce DRM, your game can use Steamworks even without DRM.
The no-DRM policy sure is very good, but in the end any game on GoG is there by choice of the publisher, who could also choose not to use DRM on Steam.

That sounds good, I’m currently using a Redmi Note 8 which is still good but it seems its successors aren’t that well suited for custom ROMs. So when this one dies I’ll look into those
- Comment on How are 144hz screen possible? 1 year ago:
The reason 60Hz was so prominent has to do with the power line frequency. Screens originated as cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs that were only able to use a single frequency, which was the one chosen by TV networks. They chose a the power line frequency because this minimizes flicker when recording light powered with the same frequency as the one you record with, and you want to play back in the same frequency for normal content.
This however isn’t as important for modern monitors. You have other image sources than video content produced for TV which benefit from higher rates but don’t need to match a multiple of 60. So nowadays manufacturers go as high as their panels allow, my guess is 144 exists because that’s 624Hz (the latter being the “cinematic” frequency). My monitor for example is 75 Hz which is 1.550Hz, which is the European power line frequency, but the refresh rate is variable anyways, making it can match full multiples of content frequency dynamically if desired.
- Comment on Xbox's new policy — say goodbye to unofficial accessories from November thanks to error '0x82d60002' 1 year ago:
Anyone surprised? MS is one of the shadiest companies out there. Google gathering user data? “Don’t get scroogled!” Microsoft account required for windows 11? That’s completely different. Gamers in particular just fell for their self-imposed image as the good guys because of Game pass and constantly bashing their competitors.
If I remember correctly, it was them first charging for online services under Xbox Live Gold for functionality that was usually free on PC.
- Comment on Not even the ghost of obsolescence can coerce users onto Windows 11 1 year ago:
I don’t even understand why they make that distinction. I recently bought a used notebook with Windows 10 preinstalled that can’t be upgraded. But if you just boot up the Windows 11 ISO it works fine without issues from there.
Granted I don’t know why someone would want this; I was genuinely surprised when I noticed installation without a Microsoft account isn’t supposed to be possible. Then you get that system that just feels sketchy to use, Teams in autostart, online services in your menus and all that. And that’s just the stuff you can see. It’s a total disaster in my opinion. But it went downhill ever after Windows 7 as far as I can tell.

Musk says he’s unbothered by the criticism. “Frankly, I love the negative feedback on this platform,” he tweeted on July 22. “Vastly preferable to some sniffy censorship bureau!”
Holy shit he’s unhinged. Not that that’s any news…
How did you like the criticism on your standup “comedy” performance, Elon? Or were that sock puppets by the deep state to hinder your free speech?
- Comment on Nadella’s Microsoft Payouts Top $1 Billion on 1,000% Stock Boom 1 year ago:
This is the company that the US government had to tell that data from their cloud service is being syphoned, and they could only know because they bought they expensive E5 package to get the data that Microsoft logs anyways.
In my opinion, if you use their products for anything but playing video games, you’re putting your IT security at risk. Not because their products are inherently less secure than others, but because they sell on popularity and flashy features while trying to get the most money out of you by having you pay premium for features needed for secure operations.
