- Comment on California minimum wage shocks fast food workers as restaurant closes: 'Only the beginning,' ex-manager warns 5 weeks ago:
This reminds me of a few years back when Seattle announced $15 minimum wage. The highest in the nation at the time. Conservatives were terrified but had they looked at the data they might have felt different. After all, “facts don’t care about feelings.” We don’t have to speculate about what would happen if minimum wages went up. Every single state in country, along with the Fed has raised min. wage multiple times. We can look at history to see that every time it leads to an improved economy.
So what happened in Seattle? Are all the restuaurants closed? Are low wage workers out of jobs? Has Seattle failed? No quite the opposite. Washington, like all ‘blue’ states has a stronger economy than most other states. That’s why Fox doesn’t talk about it anymore. There was a ‘Foster Freeze’ in Seattle too that conservatives loved to trot out at the time. Forced to close because the mean old government demanded that people pay living wages. Of course we later learned that the owner wasn’t able to retain employees due to poor scheduling, wasn’t paying taxes and wasn’t paying vendors all long before the wage increase. Fox for some reason didn’t provide that update.
And now they have found a new martyr to trot out. Of course this one even admits up front that the restaurant is EXEMPT from the law, and laments that she wasn’t given any warning! Somehow the rest of the nation knew this was happening. It seems the real issue is this: Why on Earth would anybody continue working at Foster Freeze when the Mcdonald’s next door is paying a living wage?

Lemmy. This is Lemmy we are on. Talking in the comments of a post with negative 54 votes. I love the idea you have that liberals are a homogenous and intolerant group. You really hit the nail on the head. Liberals are famously a group of all-white, Christian, Republican males who go about waving Nazi and Confederate flags. Everyone knows that.

It is only “my” city because gov Abbott chose it. It’s is not where people went. And if you think these cities are complaining about growing populations you’re mistaken. We are all immigrants in America. The problem is that we don’t have immigrant services set up for them. They have those things in Texas and Florida because that’s where people have been immigrating.
Nobody is upset about welcoming immigrants. Or i should say some people are, but it’s clear from the downvotes on this community that those types of people are the vast minority.
- Comment on Seriously 3 months ago:
And of course you realize that those border states Al receive federal funding and have decades of infrastructure in place for helping immigrants, but instead are using that very funding to simply drop them off in random places around the country. Even if you can’t understand humanitarianism or empathy, you can probably understand how wasteful that is.

I’ve been noticing it too! It’s not teens and these people clearly aren’t student drivers. IDK what it’s about. My wife and I have been wondering and thinking maybe it’s a Tiktok trend? Or some free Fb giveaway or something? I assume that people think it will make other drivers more forgiving I guess? But where did they get the stickers and why all at once?

Ya! OP is just hiding behind this Wikipedia article on chiropractors loaded with all those so-called “sources” from scientific journals. I bet she doesn’t even have a nice story about a time she went to a chiropractor and felt better.
- Comment on YSK that chiropractors are not medical doctors and "Systematic reviews... have found no evidence that chiropractic manipulation is effective" 5 months ago:
Thank you for sharing your story! While it’s a great example of anecdotal evidence, the “whoever” that came up with these conclusions are called “scientists” who perform research based on scientific evidence. It’s great that you feel better for having seen a chiropractor, but many do not.

I’m kinda over paying for it. I really only got it for Jon Oliver and it’s basically free on YouTube so idk. Also on my computer I click on my Max bookmark and it’s like “hey we’re not HBO max anymore! Now it’s just Max! Redirecting you now…”
What? Am I going crazy? What is even the point of that.

- Comment on [HN] Disc Brakes Took over the Cycling World. Here's Why That Was a Mistake 6 months ago:
What the actual fuck. No. Does this writer ever even ride a bike? Those brakes are awful! They need constant adjustment to prevent them rubbing against the rim, they wear out fast, and they don’t work nearly as well. Disc brakes are longer lasting, the do the job better and most importantly they stay put.
Grow up.

So rad! I love how organic it looks. You know if sci-fi movies they sometimes make the alien spaceship look very organic? (battlestar galacitca, arrival, alien…) Like it grew that way instead of being built? That blob shape reminds me of this. Maybe in the future we will have spaceships designed by AI that looks like this blob.
