Ooh sounds interesting. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on some. Thanks for the reply!
- Comment on I got tired of killing my cactus so now I plant mint 2 weeks ago:
Do you have any good recipes for using mint? It’s not common where I’m currently living, but had it in the garden when I was growing up. All I can think of is lamb.
- Comment on Customers suddenly find their new phones can't make calls or send texts 2 weeks ago:
a giant “fuck off” sign to international tourists.
That’s what I’m wondering about. Will data only tourist sim/esim work as usual, or will “incompatible” 4G devices be blocked in this situation, too?
One would think that tourist sims would work because they are data only, but who knows?!

I feel like nobody here read the actual article.
I agree. Most people are acting like they are killing off the whole product line (of which there is only one product currently). However, the article clearly states that a second generation product is in the works.

Haha the comments on YouTube are fucking brutal:
I have been confined to a wheelchair for the past 20 years today I stood up and walked just to turn this off
Yeah, this looks so forced. A big nope from me.
- Comment on Has anyone ever seen a "10A" USB-C cable and can tell what their purpose is? 1 month ago:
I’ll save you guys from watching. It was just a big standard basic USB C cable. This video reeks of advertising to me. The tool which was used to identify the cable (which tbh I thought was pretty cool, so I searched it using the obvious hints in the video) is a kickstarter which is starting sometime today. Awfully sus!
- Comment on Healthcare: How Long Do Patients Have To Wait? 2 months ago:
They should include more countries for this to be a fair comparison.
Here in Japan you have to wait zero days to see the equivalent of a GP (a doctor of internal medicine is what would be considered the closest) unless it is a weekend or holiday. But even then, there are some clinics open on those days (they share the responsibility on a rotating basis).
You simply rock up and wait to be seen. Generally you won’t be waiting too long. Maybe 30 to 60 minutes. With pharmacies conveniently located next door, you’ll be in and out in no time when you’re feeling crook.

Zero here for me. You using an ad blocker?
- Comment on The first Apple-approved emulators for the iPhone have arrived 7 months ago:
If you use a dns level ad blocker there aren’t any ads. I didn’t know there were any until I read your post.
- Comment on Can you manage your house with a local, no-cloud voice assistant? Mostly, yes. 9 months ago:
Thanks. I’ve found that once it is stable I just don’t bother with updates. I have to reboot the system maybe once every six months.
I am interested in home assistant and may make the switch when I move to a bigger residence. I do like the idea of having most of the logic on the HA side instead of having to script it all on the HomeKit side, which is just clunky and lacks any real backup options.
But homebridge has worked well for my first foray into home automation, and is pretty good for relatively simple setups.
- Comment on Can you manage your house with a local, no-cloud voice assistant? Mostly, yes. 9 months ago:
Homebridge is a way to get non-HomeKit devices into HomeKit. It’s what I am using for most of my stuff. It works pretty well in my opinion.

Wow, what a scam!
- Comment on today I was reminded how bad YouTube ads are 1 year ago:
If you use the kids YouTube app then there are no ads. On tv, you can use the regular YouTube app to switch to your child’s account and then no more ads.
- Comment on Antenna TV is pretty cool, actually 1 year ago:
It is surprising to realise that this is not more common. In Japan, basically every home and apartment comes with rooftop antennas and coaxial connections in multiple rooms. No need to pay for cable TV (BS and CS) unless you want to get more channels.

Wow that really sucks.
- Comment on Openreach Stops Selling New UK Analogue Copper Phone Lines 1 year ago:
That’s sucks. I’m not from the UK but isn’t there already a line rental fee she has to pay monthly or yearly? Is the “upgrade” more expensive overall?
Seems maybe a mobile phone is a better solution. At least they still work if the power is out (not if it kills the cell network too of course).
But your mum would have to change her phone number and learn a new device. And remember to charge it.
I remember getting my grandma a mobile phone for emergencies (Nokia 3310) and it was so hard for her to grasp how to use it.
- Comment on Openreach Stops Selling New UK Analogue Copper Phone Lines 1 year ago:
It kind of makes sense. I wonder if customers who only want a telephone line will be forced to sign up for an internet package anyway? Sure, there probably aren’t so many people. But still worth thinking about.
- Comment on People who back into parking spots: Why? 1 year ago:
When pulling out, we are often more distracted because we have just been doing something else. Conversely, when parking, we are already in driving mode so it is easy to concentrate. Pulling put forward seems safer to me, as I can see everything so less likely to have an accident.
Also, it is normal where I live to reverse park.
- Comment on Printers 1 year ago:
I have an Epson (not eco tank) and it has this. It is called a maintenance box. But you can get one off Amazon etc for a few dollars and it is easy to replace, just one screw off the front. The display literally shows you how to do it!
I love my Epson. I use generic cartridges and they work fine. When you install a generic cartridge it gives you a warning, and that’s it. I have it on wifi but I have disabled firmware updates in the settings.
