I’ve done some experiments, and I’ve concluded that completely mixing the filament is unnecessary, and that with the rudimentary experiments I’ve been able to indicate I can get a color resolution less than 1mm within a reasonable nozzle size, no chamber necessary.

Ultimately I went with the M1D as well, with their focus on open source being one of my major reasons.

I can already second that their support has been spectacular. I wanted to know the dimensions of the final machine so I could lay out enough space, and within less than an hour their support team had emailed me a diagram with all the critical dimensions.

Yeah, version tags work fine. All my containers come from compose, and it follows whatever tags I declared there.

I used to use watchtower. But then it killed a few services that had pre-update instructions, and I learned my lesson.

It just gives me a GUI to see when a service needs an update, and a button to perform it, then I just backup and read the update notes before I do it.

Definitely checkout dockhand. It gives a single dashboard for all your hosts. I primarily use it for updating containers and checking logs, but it does quite a bit more. You can even point it towards your compose files and it can edit them in with a GUI, but I haven’t played with that yet.

Dropped portainer years ago. Managing some compose files isn’t hard, and Dockhand is better for managing updates

Some purge would definitely be required, I can’t think of any way around that. But a smart slicer may be able to do all/most during infill.

Im away that ink printers don’t mix ink, but it’s the resolution issue with FDM that makes me think filament blending is the way to go

I’ve been contemplating how to blend the liquid (or near liquid) filament without introducing chaotic flow, which fortunately I have some experience with from previous projects, and in effect I believe that the filament stream could be twisted, it wouldn’t bleed strictly laminar but can be done in a way that can avoid turbidity. It wouldn’t be perfectly “blended”, but with some uneducated guesses I estimate it could get the color resolution down to about 0.08mm.

You may be right, but I may attempt of to build some POCs to explore the concept, because I think the challenges are manageable

That was an awesome read, but it does seem to be an evolution of the dithering in FullSpectrum.

What I’m talking about is a print-head that would combine multiple melted filaments into blending hotend, so the extruded plastic would be a blend

Are you referring to Full-Spectrum? Because that’s not really what I’m talking about.

How is the assembly process(assuming you didn’t go pre-assembled)?

Ender’s get a bad rap from the older models, the new stuff is solid, and only invite the tinkering, instead of requiring it like the older ones.

I had mine printing very acceptable parts within about 10 minutes of opening the box, and I haven’t had a single problem with it in 2 years that couldn’t be solved by clearing a clog or tightening a belt.

I love my Ender 3 V3 SE, haven’t had any major issues, print quality is incredible once you get a few slicer settings tuned, and you can get it for under $200.

Its not the best at anything, but its pretty good for the price and great for tinkering and learning
