Japan is split and has both 50 and 60hz grids. Modern products don’t have any issues with this (voltage is 100v typically). In the older days, this was an issue for things with clocks and motors from what I understand, but I didn’t move here u til the 2010s

We know proto families and such exist going back through to PIE and others. We know that languages split off of those and, if I’m remembering correctly, proto-Germanic itself would hit in their 0 +/- 1000 range easily.

After we domesticated plants and animals, however, the planet’s population ballooned—and so did the number of languages.

This feels counterintuitive to me. We had small groups of hunter-gatherers that interacted with other groups far less often (at least presumably) before agriculture. If people generally don’t speak like their grandparents today, why wouldn’t that be the case then? I guess one could argue that fewer people meant less drift, but i don’t know about that.

After agriculture (and arguably even before it in some places), we had more permanent societies with structure, population, governance, etc. Why would this be the place that language drift/division starts happening rather than the opposite?

I’m not a trained anthropologist or anything; it just feels weird to me.

I used my share of substances when younger and nothing doing. I also don’t think it’s a thing to be “cured”. I don’t particularly want all that shit going on in my head.

I have aphantasia and no inner monologue that I can “hear”, either.

My dreams are, as best as I can tell, very vivid images, though. I’ve always assumed it meant that the hardware exists in my brain and works, but the wiring isn’t connected.

Why would I need to somehow ‘see’ where I put something? It’s data. My database doesn’t store pictures of things, it stores the information about the things. I put the keys on the counter by the door as I do 95% of the time I enter the house. I don’t need some picture for that.

I was still a kid in the ‘80s, but basically grew up around (and in, sometimes), computer stores and computers. I don’t recall hearing this.

I’m not into any variety of football. I enjoy seeing an odd highlight or good play, but not the whole match. I played for 3 years in school (and american football for one), but I don’t really enjoy eatching it. Ice Hockey is probably the thing I most enjoy and even that is mostly only if I go in person.

I used to run my own mailserver, but I haven’t in years now since it was so much of a pain. Not even the set-up part; that wasn’t the worst thing in the world. It’s uptime, back-ups, and other considerations that just require time and money I don’t have.
