I think you might onto something with the filesystem. I am using Hd-idle to switch off the HDD when not in use. It was of course in use the entire time during this, but I noticed in the logs that it came up multiple times as “assuming disk spun up after long sleep” even though it hadn’t been off at all.

Only saw this after I made my post and I cannot make sense of it, but I have never seen this message otherwise, it only happened during this period of not being able to access the server.

I am not aware I have that installed/configured, not sure if this comes with a DietPi installation?

If we assume yes, how would I fix this?

The OS is on a SD card, the HDD is a spinning disc connected via USB and I actually never had any issues with its connectivity.

There are however issues sometimes if I connect a second drive, where I assume it does have something to do with not getting enough power for 2 external HDDs, but I only ever connect a second drive for backing up.

Don’t think this is connected, but if more people here feel like yes then I am happy to check in that direction.

From phone or laptop, doesn’t matter. The Pi is in my network via Wifi, well technically its connected to the router via cable but then everything else is connecting via Wifi through the router to the Pi. I have given the Pi a fixed IP.

Yeah this, 99% of the cases its permissions not being right.

Dockge hasn’t been updated in a while though. Does not matter for me since my setup only runs in local network but I am not sure how safe it is for online use.

Yeah same. I am really bad at keeping stuff updated so I rather keep it local too.

Damn, they released it for phones? I think you’ll need a controller for that though, cannot imagine on screen controls would be sufficient.

Got to say, Hyper Light Drifter, if you are into Zelda-like open world endtimes sword fighting.

What I loved most about it how the style just fit the game so well. Especially the sound design. One part of the game is finding those hidden “computerchips” in the ground and you get hints on where they are by listening to them humming softly in a rhythm. Then pulling them out of the ground makes a real satisfying sound effect.

The guns also mostly have really great sounds, shooting and reloading the laser sniper rifle felt awesome, but the best one is that tiny pistol you get beating this samurai boss.

Dunno, you’re referring to your one downvote? I use Metube as well, works pretty well for me so far.

If I had an e-mail provider I’d be confident staying with for the next few decades, sure. But I don’t feel confident about it and it would just move my problem with old gmail e-mails to the next provider.

And the next provider may not have a “takeout” system. Since Proton has encryption you have to use their client? I remember hearing about Proton bridge to connect to other clients, and it was supposedly clunky.

Not convenient. My computer is actually a docked Steamdeck I only use occasionally in Desktop mode. I know lots of people will frown at that, but I do 99% of anything I do (aside from gaming), on my phone since a long time ago. For work I have a work laptop and I surely wouldn’t want to store my mails there.

So having Thunderbird on my Steamdeck for browsing old e-mails is just not convenient for me.

My small homeserver is part of a backup strategy, so putting something on it reachable via a webUI of some sort will also ensure all of that is backed up. Since my Steamdeck is mostly games and many saves are stored in the cloud automatically, I don’t back it up as much, not worth the effort.

Would that be simple to do though? Hope I am not starting yet another discussion thread about selfhosting e-mail, I know there are different views how hard/easy it is. I guess here its restricted to just the viewing part, which is maybe the easier bit.

Downside I see for this, I’d like to also be able to access this on my computer, where I use webmail only. So I got no client set up. Yes, can of course do this just for that use case, but its again something extra I don’t need otherwise. Also, on the phone I use Thunderbird, it seems to have an atrocious search function. So that wouldn’t feel great to use either.

But definitely a valid idea I didn’t consider, thanks!

A Voyager-like scenario would work. A new part of space, not explored, new diseases, actually limited resources (unlike Voyager).

The way I see it this is a guy who hasn’t been relevant in ages is still getting his words amplified about a studio that can’t do anything new since 2010 being shut down by a company that owns too much.
