We are absolutely dating Europe again lol. China knows. America is a bit preoccupied.

Starmer is annoyingly good at the international stuff
- Comment on Pornhub to restrict access for UK users from February 2 weeks ago:
I think pornography should only be seen by adults
- Comment on Police to get 40 new live facial recognition vans and AI help in sweeping reforms 2 weeks ago:
While I get that sentiment its becoming clear to me that the corps are increasingly supplying data and inferencing models to governments.
Moving forward the business model for data collection is less about advertising and more about social ‘guidance’. The extreme is Palantid supplying ICE with AI maps and they then knock on doors of immigrants.
But we can expect a lot more creative coercing moving forward. It will affect us all

- Comment on UK government targets VPNs in new online safety consultation as Lords vote for ban 2 weeks ago:
Maybe there could be a VPN service that doesn’t require age verification but doesn’t provide access to porn or social media?
There is probably a solution. But on balance I’d rather kids didn’t get access to porn and social media. And if that means age verification for VPN I’m comfortable with that. Unless somebody can come up with a better solution

The British will never ever ever accept ID cards.

You’re right. Parliament also has a bar where they serve alcohol.
They’re not banning VPNs. They’re attempting to limit use to adults.
- Comment on Could there be a social media ban for children in the UK? 2 weeks ago:
Kids growing up being able to see porn on demand is also a horrible idea. Arguably a more horrible idea.
The onus is on us to provide a solution to that if we want to remove ID checks from websites that serve adult material. Which currently is porn but could be easily expanded to social media.

I’d be happy to take the hit to get my wider family off of Facebook and X.
Although I feel this site has a more sensible algorithm that doesn’t reward brigading. I think some tighter regulation is possible in the digital sphere

Im for it myself. Honestly wouldn’t mind a ban on algorithmic based news given the state that America is in.
I’m starting to see social media as smoking. It’s bad for you. Give up
- Comment on Half of UK's grassroot music venues make no profit 3 weeks ago:
If it made 30% profit it wouldn’t be a grassroots venue. It’d be a growing business.
The question should be what social need does it meet and how do we protect that.
