Maybe there could be a VPN service that doesn’t require age verification but doesn’t provide access to porn or social media?
There is probably a solution. But on balance I’d rather kids didn’t get access to porn and social media. And if that means age verification for VPN I’m comfortable with that. Unless somebody can come up with a better solution

The British will never ever ever accept ID cards.

You’re right. Parliament also has a bar where they serve alcohol.
They’re not banning VPNs. They’re attempting to limit use to adults.

Kids growing up being able to see porn on demand is also a horrible idea. Arguably a more horrible idea.
The onus is on us to provide a solution to that if we want to remove ID checks from websites that serve adult material. Which currently is porn but could be easily expanded to social media.

I’d be happy to take the hit to get my wider family off of Facebook and X.
Although I feel this site has a more sensible algorithm that doesn’t reward brigading. I think some tighter regulation is possible in the digital sphere

Im for it myself. Honestly wouldn’t mind a ban on algorithmic based news given the state that America is in.
I’m starting to see social media as smoking. It’s bad for you. Give up
- Comment on Half of UK's grassroot music venues make no profit 1 day ago:
If it made 30% profit it wouldn’t be a grassroots venue. It’d be a growing business.
The question should be what social need does it meet and how do we protect that.
