This is how I write when I need to fulfill a word count and don’t have anything meaningful to say! 🤠

Makes me wonder if there are any OF creators on LinkedIn. I think those would be the appropriate emojis to use 👍
Also, cute cat!

Someone already beat you to that one buddy 😆 but thank you!

Thank you! I do not want the corporate tone lol. I want friendly, approachable, knows what she’s doing and has real enjoyment towards her field.

OK 😔

'Tis not an application, just a LinkedIn bio!
But I see what you’re saying. Thanks!

I will be honest - I don’t take LinkedIn very seriously. I have mine on private, only 8 connections who are all my coworkers, no profile photo, no posts/likes/comments, and I’m just making a bio now. I’ve never used it to get jobs before nor have any HR folks gone through it to hire me 🤷♀️ I mostly just wanted to set it up as like a work portfolio that if anyone happens to come across, they can see what I do and reach out if they feel like it.

I read them 😅

I mentioned this in another comment but will just say it again. I guess my intention is to make my bio a bit less formal in a harmless way. Everything else about it sounds so…corporate and that’s just not what I am as a person or an employee.
I’m not necessarily looking for a job right now so I’m not worried about that, but I would like for people who come across my LinkedIn to view me as approachable and someone who genuinely enjoys the job they’re doing, if that makes sense? I do like to use the 🙂 emoji as well but I thought a fish would be appropriate because I work with them.

I knew it was doomed when we started using em dashes as an indicator for chat gpt writing. I actually used them and I had to stop because of it lol. I won’t let them take my emojis too!

Not like that 😅 Like this:
“I currently work as a Laboratory Biologist where I maintain cultures of both vertebrate and invertebrate aquatic species, and conduct toxicity tests to determine effects on their health, reproduction, and survival. This means I get to work with live organisms (🐟) and includes monitoring water quality, as well as acute and chronic toxicity testing using water, sediment, soil, and effluent samples.”

I’ve added A Liberated Mind to my reading list and bumped it up to the top. It seems like it might be genuinely helpful. Thank you! 🙂

Programming seems interesting but I don’t know how much more time I can spend sitting in front of a screen each day before I start pulling my eyeballs out of my skull lol

🗺️🧭
I’m ready to go. What now?

I’ve been considering this a lot but really hesitate to commit for whatever reason. I think I’m worried I will not enjoy volunteering and then I’ll feel terrible about abandoning a good cause and failing at yet another thing 😕

Is there anything you enjoy doing? I could use some inspiration

I’m sorry to hear. I hope you’re doing okay now, or at least hanging in there.

I do read quite a bit and used to run, but I can’t find the willpower to do it anymore for some reason. I feel like that with everything - I start things and lose momentum rapidly.

I actually am hoping for the opposite lol. I don’t really have any friends and would like to make one 🙂

I signed up when I was looking for Reddit alternatives a few weeks ago and was told I would get an invite link, but so far nothing. I think it’s by invitation only right now 🤷♀️

Are we anti google docs here? I feel like it has everything word does and you can easily save/download files onto your computer as a PDF.
If that doesn’t work, you can use word online! It’s basically MS word, you just can’t access it offline. It’s on the web.

Today is my first day here and I’ve mostly just been wandering hobby/interest groups!
I think the biggest barrier for new users is that the whole system here is pretty complicated with the “decentralized”/“federated” model. I don’t really understand what it means or how it works, and I’m sure the fact that you have to write all of these long posts to explain it to people doesn’t help. A platform like reddit (which I migrated from) is clean, easy to understand, and makes sense to the casual user.
As for the political stuff, why don’t people here engage more with positive content? Make the more wholesome, fun stuff popular? Make posts about the cool/funny stuff you encounter every day? Talk about the arts, your hobbies, etc.? In my exploration today I noticed those kinds of communities barely get any interaction whereas the news/political ones are always active.
