- Comment on (serious) What would we be losing in a world where most people didn't own a car? Please read the OP before posting. 12 hours ago:
Road trips. The ability to visit National Parks.
You included hauling cargo, which opens up a whole new can of worms. Moving would be impossible. As would stocking stores and businesses, as there would be no last mile options for freight. Unless we’re including horse-drawn wagons.

Really though. It’s crazy how much high is at your fingertips these days. Back in the day you had to buy weed and usually roll it into a joint or blunt, or at the very least pack it into a bowl. And either way it was getting smoked. Maybe you had a brownie once in a while if someone you knew was making them.

The way that people are currently obsessed with protein is really how they should be feeling about fiber.

Meditation is awesome and useful. But it doesn’t need to be mystical and magical to be great, and I wish more people realized that.

As someone who hasn’t played a pokemon game since Gen 3, what are they like these days? Have they totally jumped the shark?

Paywall so I can’t read the author’s main points, but it’s all relative when you say “bad at baseball.” Compared to the average person or even the average pro athlete? Yeah it’s extremely impressive to play AA ball after not playing since high school, I think he was 14 years removed from the sport. Absolutely an athletic freak with crazy work ethic and natural talent. I’d argue that anyone who makes it to AA is far more than decent. And I think Space Jam kinda gives his baseball skills a bad rap.
But in the context of professional baseball, he wasn’t major league caliber. He slashed .202/.289/.266 in 497 plate appearances at 31 years old. If he had continued to play I bet he would have been promoted to the majors at least once for the spectacle, a la Bronny playing on the Lakers with his dad. But I doubt he ever would have been truly serviceable.
Hitting against major league pitching is really, really hard. Like one of the hardest things in sports imo. Like so hard that the best players in the world have to spend years in the minors or foreign leagues to even sniff an MLB roster.
- Comment on How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand? 5 days ago:
How common is it for students in non-English speaking countries to learn a second language that isn’t English? I would imagine not very. Learning a second language isn’t very useful if you’re not going to use it, and learning it won’t be easy if you aren’t immersed in it.

I think OP means a notable difference in accent between men and women of a given region.

Oh for sure, and I’m sure I’d react to that like Vincent did to a $5 shake in 1994.

Maybe. Chicago is fairly high CoL, but so is CA. And we have a lot of dairy just north of the cheddar curtain, it’s usually priced either the same as other goods or cheaper.

My bad, I meant to say cheaper. McDonald’s looks to be the cheapest fast food shake near me in Chicago.

What fast food places near you have more expensive shakes than McDonald’s? I just did a quick check and McD’s was cheaper than Culver’s and Shake Shack near me.
