Losing weight too fast can destroy your organs, so this is a very stupid take.

Man it’s been a long time but essentially 98 was the first one to allow for plug and play without drivers if I’m remembering right. That and a few other stability issues made the original crash constantly, including during the demo at a tech show. They re-released it as a second edition that fixed most of it. If you bought the computer towards 1999 they had fixed it.

Desktops also offer better heat dissipation and peripheral replacements extending the life of the unit. It can be difficult for most folks to replace a laptop display or even battery nowadays frankly.
- Comment on Do you have a plan for your self-hosted data if you die? 1 month ago:
Realistically no. My wife primarily uses the ad blocking dns and smb file storage. I’ve built the server on FreeBSD so those should run near forever if I passed, and she knows she has until the server dies to find somewhere else to put her photos. Past that there’s a maintenance document next to the will, which includes everything up to how to replace drives on zfs, but I doubt she’d use it if I’m being honest.
