This is also true in Hinduism and Buddhism, it’s just always been convienient for rulers to convince peasents of this

I actually do work in a sensitive hospital enviroment in a field which benefits others.
I was able to work full time because so many people in my industry died during covid. I probably wouldn’t have a steady paycheck if it weren’t for the deaths of thousands of people. I just couldn’t get my foot in the door. This goes for all industires. The job market has been terrible and way too competitive for my entire adult life. For me to own a home, thousands more would need to also die. Please do not retaliate against me for informing you of this. It’s not my fault, my doing, or my preference.

OK instead of looking at it that way, think about how you feel about other people and what other people mean to you.
If someone new is born, does that mean you have a new resource, or a new competition for resources?
Back in the day, a new person meant a extra paid of hands, not just another mouth to feed.
If I died tomorrow, would you care in any material way? I’m not talking about your subjective, passing emotions, I’m talking about if you would feel my loss materially. Would anything be different about your life?

I used to feel this way too. But, there are worse things to be.

A vague path and something to show for it means using a bunch of energy for something they’re not even really doing…?

I mean… yeah. It’s always beneficial for people not to know how much money one has… I can’t really imagine a situation where it wouldn’t be.

That makes sense.

If that’s the case, why don’t they pull the Renaissance artist scam and just take a bunch of money and swear they’re working on stuff? If they don’t have to prove anything, why use any energy at all?

I didn’t say it was a good choice, not sure I made any kind of statement you could nitpick or impose judgement upon me for, and if I did, I edited it out because I predicted you being insufferable. “I think they’re mining bitcoin” is not the exact same statement as “bitcoin is good” or “AI is good.” I don’t actually mind either bitcoin or AI, I think like alcohol they’re fine in moderation, but that’s not what my post is about.

Yeah it’s really noisy and hot when you mine bitcoin and distract everyone by reading their emails, great distraction actually, kudos

As social media? I’m getting old. It used to just be an image hosting site.
