- Comment on Mastodon.social is not a good way to join Mastodon. If you’re already on it, you might want to move your account to a different Mastodon server. | Fedi.Tips – An Unofficial Guide to Mastodon and the F 3 days ago:
I also do not like this kind of sentiment. Sure in a perfect world it would be slightly better if we all are distributed equally on different servers. But the biggest advantage of the Fediverse still stands, even if we all are on a central instance. If mastodon.social ever looses its shit for whatever reason, its still possible to move without loosing connections.
I think ridiculing new folks about “rules” like this make the Fediverse less inviting and counter productive. And to be honest the experience on .social is far better than on smaller instances IF you are coming from twitter and are looking for something similar. When I see new people on .social im happy that they even joined Fedi.

The headline is a bit misleading is not? There is no evidence of children’s data being used unlawfully. (I mean there might I don’t know what counts as “unlawful") This is just a fine for Reddit not to follow UKs dystopian ideas in time.

Love Cryptpad, but am I the only one for whom the loading indicator gives a bad flashback to early js framework web development where every website was 16 times the initial load time, 4 times the overall size and just more buggy. Website SPA or not have rarely a good reason to have a loading indicator for the initial load the browser already does that.

oof, found it. It is so weird seemingly every job listing for a software developer has the requirement of using AI nowadays. ITS NOT A SKILL, ITS MANDATORY TRAINING WHEELS. They will find worse programmers doing so, good ones can use AI if it makes sense you don’t have to force it.

Was there another incident besides the 2026 sales promo image? I was a bit disappointing of their “response” if you can could call it that. But I don’t really see this as “pushing AI”, as far as I can tell this might just be an intern who was given the task to make a promo image and did not care at all.
- Comment on Newish to Fediverse - do I use one account across all services? 2 weeks ago:
I have an account in the threadiverse (lemmy, piefed…) and one in microblogverse (mastodon, gotosocial…). just because they behave so differently it is not a great ux to be using only one.
in some instances it does make sense though. if your are not a heavy lemmy user and primarily use mastodon you could just @ the corresponding community in your posts. they will then show up normally here and you can still interact with it. (following communities on mastodon looks bad on mastodons end though)
or if you just want to comment or like a video on peertube you could just do that from any instance. peertube accounts also show up on lemmy like normal communities which is neat.
so in short if your are not planning on using something heavily it is probably enough to just use an account you already have. but like with everything you should just try things out and see what works best for you. :)

Oh yea you are right. XP was a joy to use. They have been slacking since they got that monopoly though. I am forced to use Outlook because of the company. And am always amazed how many redirects you can do for a simple authentication. Every service looks completely different and the audio in teams is so broken it cuts off for a couple of seconds and switches from mono to stereo for no apparent reason. Everything just feels like its extra work.
Switching to Linux on my private devices actually reminded me of the old windows. I just wish the UI UX of some software would be on par as well. LibreOffice and GIMP is just not fun to use.

It always amazes me how Microsoft is though. Stuff like Threads, Instagram, Facebook is incredibly evil but they still work?! I can at least understand why the majority of people who don’t care are there. Microsofts products don’t even work to begin with though. Everything they touch be it Xbox, Teams or Windows is just so bad i wonder how we even ended up here.

We really do be needing a fancy xmpp client with voip with mumble or something else. Especially if https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0503.html gets stable and implemented. I do not use xmpp, but I dont understand why it does not get the same love matrix or even irc gets. (in terms of being an alternative)

Gonna use this thread to shout out https://github.com/YTLitePlus/YTLitePlus There more than enough options for android users out there, this one is for iOS though. Tried it out this weekend on my jailbroken iPhone 6. If i read it correctly it should also be installable without a jailbreak but not that easily. Its super cool and sadly feels so weird that you got the option to do such shocking things like disabling shorts or hide certain buttons, its really fun.

ye, worst outcome would be that you compliment a little baby whos to stupid to have their own thoughts on their “work”. but who really cares about them, it is still better to falsely accusing an actual artist of using ai.

Biggest number I could find is 46 Million MAOs in 2017 not sure how much truth is to that, as these came directly from Blizzard which probably had some Investors to appease. Hard to convert that to peak counts.

Oh, I have never heard of that. Also forgot that he was still around when OW2 launched. Still believe it sucks big time to see a project go down this route especially after being such a big success. It might not be dead, but it definitely is just a shell of its past.

Overwatch is close to being a decade old btw.
It’s so unfortunate what they did to Overwatch, wonder how Jeff Kaplan and the original Team feels about all that.
- Comment on Orion Browser 5 weeks ago:
It is. After development broke down in 2022 development more active than it ever was. https://blogs.igalia.com/mrego/servo-2025-stats/ I have a binary on my machine and use it for light browsing every now and then just to check in how things are going. Its “usable” for that but would not use it for banking even if it worked.
- Comment on Orion Browser 5 weeks ago:
Not really from the grounds up as it uses WebKit.
Used it very shorty on a mac, but as it really is very similar to safari there is little to no reason to use it.
On a linux maybe, but i think i will stay on firefox until servo is usable. (Which is actually being made from the grounds up)

Youtube’s alternatives looking really sad :( Love me some Invidious but an actual alternative would be so cool. Peertube is that on paper but missing content aside i think the UI is really holding them back it’s just not inviting at all.

Me too!
Also playing the hidden gems I have missed back then. Its such a great system I have it everywhere I go (If they release a smaller steam deck 2 like the switch lite id consider switching to that). Even have that little step-counter on me all the time :)
Still have my R4i card but the microSD card died in the middle of backing up the save states. Mostly sad about my Wario Ware: DIY games I have made ;( but will try to give it some professional, have heard they can do some magic there if I am lucky.
I did hack it now though, the advantages are small when you already own a flash cardridge but love to be able to boot straight into my ebook reader and camera when I press a button on boot.

Whoa! I actually have not finished it myself, but am currently in the process of it. I love everything about it, its so much fun.
What system are you playing it on?
