Lemmy, where the ND people are aware enough to know that by nature they get impulsively angry and need to cool off. I am not good at it.

In a move that should shock nobody. I have not made a new repo there for a year, and started to migrate to Codeberg.

I have done a couple similar setups. Fun facts: cell towers have asymmetrical signal and if you are too close, your signal is bad. Those are hard ones to explain to farmers that have towers installed on their properties.

They bulit the bribe into the law: “Producers of consumer-grade routers that receive Conditional Approval from DoW or DHS can continue to receive FCC equipment authorizations. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit applications to conditional-approvals@fcc.gov.”

I worked for an MSP that sold those products for all use cases. The Mikrotik home routers(with wifi) are the best you can buy, if you can figure them out. Most people run at least one Ubquity ap to get higher band radio coverage for their homes.
- Comment on Google tipped off authorities to illicit images in Canadian doctor's account, search warrants say 2 weeks ago:
This reminds me that there are 1000s of SysAdmins that stumbled onto the Trumpstien emails. They were not hidding anything at all, that shit was setting flags off everywhere. The question is what happened next? Did the CIA show up at their door telling them they will put you in the ground if they have to and remind them that their Google employee NDA shuts thems up. Maybe the honeypot was so in-gained in Google that the emails were auto flagged as “part of an ongoing investigation” and IT just ignored them.

- Comment on Jensen Huang says Nvidia engineers should use AI tokens worth half their annual salary every year to be fully productive 2 weeks ago:
You can’t vibe code IC design. Look at the number of humans in the world that design advanced ICs. It’s a really low number for a highly specialized skill. Layout requires spacial awareness at a high level, which an LLM does not have.
- Comment on Subnautica 2's early access release date was "self-servingly" leaked by Krafton, "further damaging the game", claim lawyers for reinstated Unknown Worlds CEO 2 weeks ago:
I started to care far less about typos and spelling errors last year. At least the other person knows you put in the effort to write out your own thoughts.

By dissident, do you mean anyone who commits a thought crime?
- Comment on 2 weeks ago:
I never cared for any of his crap until last year when he deep dived into tech. The tech videos are good, he is a generally entertaining person. The dude has unlimited time and too much money, so he gets crazy deep in the weeds. It some ways I would say he is more competent that a lot of engineers. The self-hosted LLM videos are a good start.

If I made $1000 an hour and worked every hour of a year it would take me ~114 years to earn $1B, that is how fucking large a billion. is. People cannot fathom how much money $1B is.

It’s a common law court, the party that loses pays the majority of the others legal fees. In common law the risk of losing usually prevents stupid lawsuits.

- Comment on Reddit users hate NordVPN. Are their criticisms legit? 4 weeks ago:
Yes, NordVPN is garbage. As a SysAdmin, my users that run it on their home PC along with our VPN are a continuous pain in the ass. The product only needs to be 5% of what it is, the rest is Anti-virus bs. It either: does not play well with other VPNs, is impossible to disable, or the people that buy this product are not computer literate enough to use such a complicated peice of shit. All of the above is also a possibility. Since it’s their home PC, we won’t go on it to fix anything and all I can do is blindly troubleshoot. The VPN I use cost me $20 a year and the only thing it does is be a VPN. It should be called NordComplicatedSecuritySuite.

Does Claude even have enough spacial awareness to be useful? Sifting through human text is what LLMs do best but not anything that requires a lot of spacial awareness.

I figure losing half their users while making money on their new surveillance scheme might be more profitable. Than have 100% of their user continue to use the app as is.

Since the 90s every few years you have had to move. You get over it eventually. There will be stragglers that will always hold on to the old one, they will be the last to the new platform. It’s happened before and it will happen again.
