Nice! Less than 0.01g of CO2 is produced every time someone visits this web page.
Holy shit! That web site lives up to its name! I want to redesign my site to be that fast and elegant.

Make a new community on your instance and be its caretaker. Post the content you want there to be, even if it’s a small niche. The variety and depth you add improves everyone’s Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin/Friendica experience, even if your niche isn’t for everyone.
- Comment on What if you floated upwards 1 ft every second? 2 weeks ago:
Alternatively, if you are constantly x feet above a spot on Earth, where x is the number of seconds since takeoff, we have a different problem. You’d be in a geostationary orbit above that spot, following the Earth as it rotates, no matter how far away you are. After about 10 years, you are traveling at the speed of light, and this only increases. Hope your body don’t impact Proxima Centauri.

For me, “down” is the direction that gravity you pulls you, and “up” is the opposite. As you leave Earth’s orbit and orbit the Sun instead, you start moving away from the Sun at 1 foot per second instead, unless doing so would move you back in a planet’s orbit.

I know, right? That cart is probably the most expensive thing in the photo.
- Comment on Travelling on a flying carpet must be terrifying 3 weeks ago:
Magic carpets are generally safe. It’s hard to fall and get hurt unless you’re stupid.
If it’s you doing the flight magic, it helps to focus your levitation on an object underneath you, like a carpet, a broom or whatever. It would feel stable like sitting on a pool floatie. If you got yourself up in the air and lose the carpet somehow, you probably have enough flying skill to land safely without one. Now, if you fly 2-3 km up and lose consciousness from lack of oxygen, you’re cooked.
If you aren’t magical and the carpet is doing all the work, then the carpet is your mount, like a horse. Well-trained mounts can feel the rider’s weight shift around and try to keep you seated. Just don’t make the carpet angry, or it might buck you off.

I already assume everything I wrote on the Internet is eternal. Of course, data is free and people will use it for stupid stuff like this. This doesn’t surprise me.
- Comment on I want a phone I can actually fix, and Fairphone’s record growth shows the world does too 5 weeks ago:
I’ve been using a Fairphone 4 for a couple weeks, and I like it so far. This is the way phones should be made. I eventually found replacements for most of my Google stuff. It’s just sad that my government burned our bridges with trade, so any replacement parts I import will be expensive.

This is for @retrocomputing@lemmy.sdf.org . You install this in a retro PC where a physical drive would go. Your retro PC thinks your disk images are actual disks, and everything else works like it used to. It’s a nice quality-of-life improvement.
Retro game consoles have been doing this for a while. The Sega Dreamcast’s GD-ROM drive is prone to failure, so modders replace it with hardware that loads disk images. I haven’t heard of this for retro PCs before, but it makes sense.
- Comment on Why are americans taking health advice from a former heroin addict ? 1 month ago:
Every Cabinet position is filled with the worst possible person for the job. This is done on purpose to make the government fail at all the things it should be doing. We knew this would happen, of course.
Take everything they say as examples of what not to do. Don’t do what Donny Don’t does.

Suppose we did this, but only smart people comply and the ignorant masses just reproduce more. That’s how Idiocracy happens.

This article is saying other countries should repeal their equivalents to the DMCA’s anti-curcumvention, just like Cory Doctorow says, and I agree too. The whole reason those counties passed DMCA-like laws was that we threatened to tariff them is they don’t. Well, now we’re tariffing them anyway. We’re no longer holding up our end of the bargain, and neither should anyone else.

That’s really cool! Nintendo of America worked with this charity to modify Wii dev kits with 160GB hard drives and Bluetooth over wires! They’ve been doing this together from the N64 to the Switch Lite. I wonder if I can get involved in [Streamers vs Everybody] and raise money for the Starlight Foundation.

My favorite Mario Kart game. Shout outs to CTGP Nitro, a romhack that keeps the entire original game intact, but optionally adds dozens of custom tracks.
- Comment on What are some of your favorite Master System memories? 5 months ago:
In 2007, I got my first Master System, the Coleco Handheld Electronic Games. I liked it a lot! It was a solid little bar of soap handheld with a tiny screen that made Fantasy Zone look great. I liked playing Aztec Adventure and throwing money at my problems. I eventually got a normal Master System and banged my head on Wonder Boy in Monster Land for a while.
