Instead of asking for a ntfy alternative, could you tell what you want to achieve? Because ntfy has several functions, primarily that of carrying notifications. And it seems that’s not what you want to achieve. Maybe you can find it here.
- Comment on How to self-host a Prosody XMPP server on Bazzite with Podman for Movim 2 weeks ago:
Setting up an xmpp server is not a good entrypoint in the self-hosting space. It is quite hard to build. It is a complex system made of different components in order to achieve what you expect from it. I strongly recommend using existing servers. If you want to tinker, find something else (a samba share and a vpn on bare metal is a good starting point in order to learn).
- Comment on If you are not in a tech field, what got you into self-hosting? 3 weeks ago:
I couldn’t think about leaving my personal data to the Big Tech…
- Comment on Am I doing this (networking) safely? 4 weeks ago:
I’d add Crowdsec
- Comment on Raspberry Pi 4B 2 months ago:
I wouldn’t recommend network apps to a complete beginner. They might loose their network for a while and get afraid of tinkering. My 2p
- Comment on Looking for a selfhostable chat service that people on phone and computers can log onto 3 months ago:
There are many solutions. I have chosen xmpp/ejabberd/conversations/monal.
- Comment on how do you explain selfhosting to the non-techies in your life? 4 months ago:
I just like it and I value my privacy. I don’t try to convince anyone. I explain it is both a hobby and a kind of political statement.

I’m in my SSO moment. Been trying Authelia - too hard configuring - then TinyAuth - very nice but limited -, Pocket-ID - a jewel but allows only passkeys -. Now back to Authelia.
- Comment on Have you tried self-hosting your own email recently? 5 months ago:
I have been self-hosting my mail server for the past 5 or 6 years with success. Recently my ISP decided to close port 25 so I have to use a third party to deliver my outgoing mail.
- Comment on What I host myself 5 months ago:
I genuinely don’t understand what you are paying for. I must have missed something.
- Comment on What I host myself 5 months ago:
What cost?
- Comment on What I host myself 5 months ago:
It is hard to set up and you might need an SMTP relay since most ISPs close port 25. But it is feasible.
- Comment on What I host myself 5 months ago:
I have everything at home, including the mail server. The only third party to my setup is a SMTP relay.
- Comment on Pi NAS for multi-location backups 6 months ago:
What I do is a local backup on a different disk, then a copy of that local backup to a Pi at a friend’s place, with rsync.
- Comment on Putting HDDs to sleep 6 months ago:
Don’t you want to turn off the whole NAS? Of you don’t have the disks spinning, the NAS is probably useless.
- Comment on Selfhosting Sunday - What's up to date, selfhosters? 6 months ago:
Upgraded to Debian Trixie two days ago. Runs flawlessly
- Comment on Exposing docker socket to a container 6 months ago:
I use Watchtower just to notify me of the updates. So the docker socket is read-only.
- Comment on Expanding storage on simple home server 6 months ago:
I second that advice. When choosing the HDD, make sure it is NAS-grade.
