- Comment on Passive RFIDs can now stream telemetry data from sensors 1 day ago:
Based on the article they are using the 920Mhz range which would imply a 10m range if current standard continue.
So active sensors for a warehouse (or house) to cover 10m bubbles would be pretty useful. Especially when you add something like an Bluetooth/WiFi/Z-Wave/Matter/etc bridge/mesh.
There is a very scare element to this though, as these chips could easily be used nefariously too though.

True on the invite, but you know I bet it wouldn’t take much to fix that code wise.
Having built a bit of software in multiple enviorns, I feel you on the very specific requirements… But it is a bitch to write something that works for all of them. It should be a damn site easier to install it though, especially if it’s docker.

Your correction is accurate. I should have been more specific.
Discord announced on Monday that it’s rolling out age verification on its platform globally starting next month, when it will automatically set all users’ accounts to a “teen-appropriate” experience unless they demonstrate that they’re adults.
Users who aren’t verified as adults will not be able to access age-restricted servers and channels, won’t be able to speak in Discord’s livestream-like “stage” channels, and will see content filters for any content Discord detects as graphic or sensitive. They will also get warning prompts for friend requests from potentially unfamiliar users, and DMs from unfamiliar users will be automatically filtered into a separate inbox.

There another thread about discord requiring a face scan next month,so I think alternatives might start getting pushed.
Such as https://stoat.chat/

- Comment on New chemical trick pushes perovskite solar cells past 26% record efficiency 1 week ago:
Many commercially installed panels are around 21% efficiency. That’s up from about 18% even ten years ago. There are panels that dramatically higher in conversion, but they tend not to be cost-effective or capable of lasting. Wikipedia has an article on it, and a chart that show the highest research cell NREL has tested is 47.6%. To quote “They reach their highest potential when the incoming sunlight is concentrated by lenses onto miniature solar cell devices of just a few square millimeters in size.” So not production ready nor large deployment.

I would suggest that this only be allowed if they share the internet the put up. Require low income and rural adjustments to increase distribution. If Musk keeps taking subsidies, we should get something out of him.

I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can’t take up too much space. What food do I pack? - Lemmy.world
Please don’t ask why I need this. It would be great if the food also made me sweat less. It has to be something I can easily find. EDITS FOR CLARIFICATION: - I am not planning on partaking in any illegal activities. - I do not condone the use of illegal substances and am not planning on smuggling anything anywhere. - I am not going on a hiking trip or mailing myself anywhere. - I will be staying in a tent (not a small one; a huge with with air conditioning and everything). I will be traveling for five days, returning to my current location on day 3 and traveling again on the last two days. I will not poop on the first three days (hopefully). - Clean toilets with all the expected facilities will be available to me. I am not going to poop for reasons that I wish to keep to myself. - If it gets bad, like really bad, like a-piece-of-poop-is-literally-halfway-out-my-ass bad, I will use the toilets. Please stop asking because I am not telling anyone the reason.

I would say they offer an answer where google may not as well, given the lower attention threshold people.
This is also a combination of years of SEO attempting to manipulate rankings, and the web becoming more diverse and complicated. Which makes finding answer more complicated, but in general I would agree that Google's algorithm has gotten worse and been drawn more to making money.

It's worth knowing your audience.
As I write this there are 19 upvotes and ours are the only comments, which is off topic. If you want to react a broader audience you have to entice them. You have a lead in a title and link but no follow up, no insight, and with that very limited engagement about a great topic. Give a paragraph, or copy their lead paragraph. Write a reaction. A little bit of work on your part will generate a lot more interest of lemmy's, many of who will just scroll on by without clicking without a bit more reason to dive in.

For those in Europe, write your representatives.
Fro me f-droid's post:
https://f-droid.org/2025/09/29/google-developer-registration-decree.htmlWhat do we propose?
Regulatory and competition authorities should look carefully at Google’s proposed activities, and ensure that policies designed to improve security are not abused to consolidate monopoly control. We urge regulators to safeguard the ability of alternative app stores and open-source projects to operate freely, and to protect developers who cannot or will not comply with exclusionary registration schemes and demands for personal information.
If you are a developer or user who values digital freedom, you can help. Write to your Member of Parliament, Congressperson or other representative, sign petitions in defense of sideloading, and contact the European Commission’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) team to express why preserving open distribution matters. By making your voice heard, you help defend not only F-Droid, but the principle that software should remain a commons, accessible and free from unnecessary corporate gatekeeping.

Burning stuff seems to be on the minds of lots of people today. On September 10, Bloomberg contributor Mark Gongloff, whose resumé includes stories for Fortune, Huffington Post, and the Wall Street Journal, penned a piece with another startling headline, this one being:
“The US Is Giving Away $35 Billion a Year to Cook the Planet”
Why would America do that? Because the beneficiaries have the government in their pocket? That is one possible explanation. If that sounds more like a Mafia shakedown than a government, you’re not far wrong. The price of US government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry has more than doubled in the last eight years, Gongloff wrote, and added, “Welfare for an industry that makes billions of dollars in profits and pollutes the climate is worse than useless. It’s self-destructive.”

Can you say more on your point on local or allied production? I haven't kept up, but last I heard the domestic US production of chips is many years away and likely to be generations older than Taiwan can produce. I was under the impression that these production lines take many many years to set up and train people for, unlike some manufacturing.
