I got in serious trouble with my parents about forty years ago. I figured out the horseshoes with welded chains and a ring. I figured out the puzzle & began hustling some other kids while we were stopped, getting gas & using the restrooms on a road trip. My dad was standing beside this other kids mom while waiting in line for the cashier. My dad overheard the conversation about how the kid got played and was kinda laughing to himself until the kid pointed me out. My dad marched out of line & right over to me and whispered in my ear to call it off with the kid or he was going to do it out loud in front of everyone in the store. He wasn’t messing around. That was for sure. Then he made me show him how to solve the puzzle. Soon he began hustling his drinking buddies for 5 bucks here & there. Meanwhile, I’m like smh. No gratitude dad. WTF?

We lived in a small town suburb of Memphis in Mississippi in the 1980’s. I’d heard about what some of the Sisters did to students from friends that weren’t southern baptists. I proceeded to call them out at the Mall. I was young and have no idea if those nuns were even associated with the Catholic school I’d heard horror stories from. My mom was so apologetic. This husky & tall for his age ten year old ginger headed Martin Luther of my own design delivered my own Theses I felt badass. My mother wanted to strangle me. Forty plus years later she shares it as the funniest thing I ever did as a child.

Perhaps reading comprehension isn’t your strongest attribute. I am only devout to breathing, not being late to the dinner table & Football Sundays. I believe you are devout in your commitment to misery. I think religion has been used to manipulate and control people throughout history. This was a learned concept and those that acquired the power & skills paved the way for the shit show we are experiencing in real time. I absolutely could not agree any more with that idea. I’m here to tell you that the nice peace loving hippie folks down at the Unitarian church who are NOT religious nutjobs. They use the church as a way to share and serve in the community. They are not same type of persons as the angry self aggrandizing mean spirited people over at the Megachurch spouting maga bullshit in the name JFC. That is the point I am trying to make. Hopefully I have illustrated this idea. Ima just leave this here.

When one is is severely depressed and unhappy with themselves, they act out in ways that make them feel empowered no matter how sad and bitter they truly are. What a great forum to let it all out. I don’t identify as Christian. I didn’t make up a sub category. If one does their research, one can understand how the merging of evangelical Christianity and the republican party has been fusing tighter & tighter together for over 50 years. Christian nationalism grew exponentially under Reagan in the 80’s. Unfortunately many of the non evangelical/ nationalist christians are too afraid to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to theological differences. I believe blanket statements about something as complex as religion as in the previous comment are indicators of a well groomed ignorant public.
