I’m torn because it would still put money in that shitty company’s pocket.

Soooooo by purchasing a copy of Subnautica 2 we could make a big, shitty company shell out $250 mil to the developers?
Not interested in the game, but I do like the sound of that.

- Comment on 35-year-old brings in around $60,000 a year and lives rent-free by pet sitting full time—everything they own fits in 2 suitcases 2 weeks ago:
In 2025, Stoever traveled to 10 countries while running their business, Traveler Charly Money Coaching, through which they provide clients guidance for paying down debt, building credit and saving for retirement. Six months of private money coaching, which includes biweekly hourlong calls, costs $6,000. Last year, the business brought in a little less than $60,000. Stoever takes home less than that after business expenses and taxes, but supplements their income with the occasional paid pet-sitting gig (most of the ones they take are in exchange for free accommodation) and performances at a queer burlesque.
Sounds like they roped ~10 clients into their personal financial thing, and that’s where all the dough came from. “Pet sitting” is just their pleasant term for “couch surfing”.

- Comment on The original FINAL FANTASY VII is getting a new refreshed edition 1 month ago:
That’s the source of my confusion. They’ve re-released FFVII on nearly everything, remastered it, etc; I guess I’m more confused by their decision to break save compatibility.
I have gobs of games that have saves in different game versions. Some games handle large updates as “mods” that can simply be toggled. Some auto-update the old save. It’s doable. For the company that’s rewritten this game a half dozen times I can’t imagine it was because they “couldn’t”. Maybe if they ran out of time?

I’m confused why they’re releasing what’s effectively a patch for the 2013 release as a standalone thing. Why not update what we already have?

- Comment on Insane: Microsoft's latest ad proves how useless Copilot on Windows 11 actually is 4 months ago:
To anyone thinking this is “not such a big deal":
Consider this is one of the most valuable, influential companies on the planet. They’re pushing Copilot like their bottom line depends on it.
Not only did Copilot give an objectively incorrect response - and bringing into question the fundamental usefulness of the feature - I think what’s being glossed over is: They published this.
For a company that’s so desperate to push a clearly half-baked, unwanted feature - publishing an ad showing it malfunctioning is hilariously inept. It’s not just a bad look for the product, it’s an embarrassment for the company.

- Comment on ‘The most violent attack ever documented’: Five female bonobos kill a male, challenging beliefs about the species’ peaceful nature 4 months ago:
A similar case occurred years ago, but it was less well documented. The primatologist notes that they can only speculate about the motives: “Why doesn’t infanticide occur within the group among bonobos? Because this is what happens if a male tries it.”

That was pretty standard for a while in web design - traditional "desktop" sites need a radically different layout when viewed from a smartphone, so from the dev side you'd check the size of the screen & redirect the user to the right subdomain for their device.
Nowadays it's not really necessary.
