  As someone who used to work carwashes for a few years, I don’t really give a shit, it’s my job and I get paid by the hour. If I wasn’t rinsing off your car I’d be rinsing the next one, and if there wasn’t one to rinse then I’d be cleaning something in the wash bay or something, and tbh I’d rather clean cars than the wash bay.

  As a driver, that’s kinda dangerous, even if it’s only for a short distance. It’s only a few seconds to brush off the snow, it takes barely more time than scraping the windshield.

  Here’s my routine: with my arm brush off enough snow around the door that I can open it without any falling inside, start the car, turn on defrost, efficiently push snow off the car with broad strokes (I’m not getting every flake, but anything you could make a snowball out of, you know?), scrape windshield and if necessary mirrors and other windows I need to see out of. By now it’s been a couple minutes and you’ve at least given your engine the change to warm up a little bit.

  I had the opposite take as that guy. I already knew that Linux usage in desktops was growing, but I’m pleasantly surprised seeing the dramatic acceleration behind it! I’m being optimistic here, but we could reach the point that we start going up a percentage point in a matter of months in the next few years.

  Lol I’ve had to essentially derive formulas that I should have memorized mid test before. Or reverse engineer examples from other questions to figure out the concept needed for another question (again, should have known that going in). I used to take absurdly long tests due to stunts like these, but tbh it usually worked. I distinctly remember discovering how logarithms worked mid-test at some point, for example

  True. More than once I’ve had to bail from a plowed (but still somewhat slick) freeway and take the unplowed backroads somewhere. Yeah, the backroads are slicker for me, but I’m the only one there, and I can trust my own winter driving skills - I know the limits of my traction and I know how to stay within them. Out on the freeway? Once I pass the second or third or fourth car stuck in the median I start to get a little nervous that the next one will take me with it embedded in my trunk and then I’m anxiously looking for the next exit.
