- Comment on You've probably met someone who has killed a person 2 weeks ago:
I know two that I can verify. One is a combat vet who had to kill during a fire fight in Iraq. The other is an outlaw biker who I went to school with, he shot a rival club member and a few years later got caught on a trafficking charge and somehow the police were able to connect him to the murder after his arrest. He’s obviously in prison now. It’s weird to know that after he committed the murder we reconnected and hung out a few times, there I was sitting at a bar laughing and joking with a killer without even knowing it.

My mom is a retired nursing instructor, I’ve picked up a few things over the years. This is going to be fun when a HIPA violation occurs via MS A.I.
Honestly any industry where you see confidential information or proprietary information, could pose a massive threat to customers. Just knowing how much of a product your competitors are shopping to a location can tell you a lot of what they are planning.

Speed Queen, my parents bought one in 1992 and it lasted over 20 years with almost no issues. When it finally started needing regular maintenance mom replaced it and got another Speed Queen, ten years later not a single issue yet.

I have friends and family with good eyesight and they can tell a difference. Sadly even with Recent prescription lenses I still can’t see a difference. Eh, at least I can save on TV’s since 1080p is cheaper.

The less educated a populous is, the less likely they are to think critically, think for themselves, and ultimately the easier they are to control.

I’m dead tired and can’t think of a way to say this without sounding arrogant, seriously my brain is fried right now, so I’ll just say I take that as a compliment and thank you.

My guess, the CFO showed that using AWS saves the company a few cents to a fraction of a cent per what ever unit they measure by. Those few cents to a fraction of a cent add up when multiplied by the millions or hundreds of millions of units and that savings makes the CEO look like they are more profitable and can give shareholders more profit.
When everything is about the quarterly results and the need to always show growth so the board and shareholders don’t fire you, you’ll cut corners and take the risk, as long as it has the potential to make you look good.

- Comment on Microsoft is plugging more holes that let you use Windows 11 without an online account 2 months ago:
Same, I made the switch about 9 years ago when I was self-employed. Then I took a job with a small company running windows and it sucked. Now I’m 6 years in with my current, a mega corp, and they are all in on Microsoft. I’ve been so aggravated with the limitations of Microsoft products when I could get things done with a FOSS product in no time. Of course IT blocks FOSS installs because of corporate policy…🤬

True for the organization as a whole, but a pissed off engineer or two could have done it, and the people above them are just leaning on “it’s the algorithm” since they don’t agree with the censorship either.
I’m sure the C Suite will step in and make them change it but it takes time for them to address the issue.
I’m not saying that’s what is going on, but I’ve witnessed my own department head pull similar tricks, albeit his tricks weren’t as high stakes as this would be.
