I am at a 970 day streak. I must continue to a 1000. But 30 days from now, I will completely delete that app from my phone and never look back.
I’d like to say it’s completely worthless, but that would be a lie. It’s a nice, easy introduction into language learning, but you’re not actually learning a lot.
The thing that bothers me most is their predatory attention seeking. Changing their app icon into annoying figures every day. Sending push notification where they literally beg you to practice your language. Pulling you in with stupid rewards and threatening you with deducting imaginary points.
It is so toxic that i’d rather watch casa de papel to learn spanish. I might actually still do that if I wasn’t learning spanish. It’s a good show.

Haven’t had a problem with it. Life’s expensive, I couldn’t afford anything, but I still can’t and I don’t think I would’ve otherwise.
I dropped out of collge at 23 and didn’t know what to do with my life. So took a job in a factory and we had a kid.
Now I’m 35 and I’m older, wiser, better. And I’m now finishing my bachelor and starting my career as a software developer. All while many other software developers my age are dropping out because of burn out or bore out.
I’d argue it’s much more fun to figure out parenthood while you’re young and relatively free with plenty of time and energy for your kid. than to figure out parenthood when you’re older, more tired and have to work a demanding career.

I hadn’t been to reddit for over a year, but recently picked it up again. They’ve got things that we don’t have, because they’re bigger. Their community isn’t all bad, but you have to look hard.
I make sure not to post anything though. No comments or upvotes either. I would still rather see them die, but sunce they’re here, I might as well use them.

This joke doesn’t work in The Netherlands, because on The Netherlands (and I guess we’re not alone) we just order a “cola”. So if the bar only serves Pepsi, that’s their choice.

I’m not American, but my uneducated ass believes America is basically a theocracy. The president has to pretend that he does everything in the name of god, you have to swear your official vows on the bible, every hotel has a bible, every child in school has to pray to the god-emperor every morning, your money says “in god we trust”, your churches are payed for by tax-evasion.
So then, what renains to be the difference between “state run” and “church run” benefits really?

Ir take your phone to your regular phone store and let them clean it for you for free.
- Comment on Over the past ~20 years, Google became the de facto entry point for learning new skills and information. Google also sucks now. This is a really big problem. 2 weeks ago:
That’s why LLM’s are taking over that role as “entry point”. It’s not that they don’t suck, but offer a satisfactory answer faster than Google does.
- Comment on What do you call the beleif that gods are just higher beings on other planes of existence? 2 weeks ago:
I disagree, there are rules and structure to religion.
Believing in ghosts is not based on fact. But you wouldn’t call that religion.
Numerology is not a religion. It does have rules, but it is not organised and it doesn’t have a central authority. It is absolutely based on faith though.

Yes, politics isn’t a binary system. It’s a spectrum. There’s multiple dimensions. For each of them you can have your own opinion. I dare say there are no two people with identical political profiles.
Some dimensions are (source chatgpt):
- Left / Right
- Authoritarian / Libertarian
- Progressive / Conservative
- Globalist / Nationalist
- Populist / Elitist
- Revolutionary / Reformist
- Environmental (Ecologist) / Industrial (Productivist)
- Rationalist / Romantic

I’ve worked in factory where my responsibility was to watch a machine that needed intervention at most once per shift. I perfected the art of paper plane folding.
