It’s impressive how Goodreads has been owned by 10+ years by the company with the largest cloud infrastructure and supposedly great engineers, and still it loads like shitty personal blog from the 2000s. It’s pretty obvious it was just bought so they could redirect traffic to Kindle store, just like IMDB redirects to Amazon Prime.
- Comment on Why is Valve being sued for almost $900 million, but Epic Games wasn't sued when they bought Rocket League and Fall Guys to remove them from steam? 5 days ago:
Yes, some of them can be launched directly from the exe without the steam client, or with some modifications to the game files.
Here’s a list of DRM free games: pcgamingwiki.com/…/List_of_DRM-free_games_on_Stea…
Also it’s kind of silly how people automatically blame Steam for this, even though Valve does not force you to use DRM to publish to Steam. It is the developers themselves that chose to add DRM or tie themselves to the Steam API so that the game can’t run without it.

- Comment on TikTokers are heading to UpScrolled following US takeover 1 week ago:
No, it wasn’t. It just needs content moderation. There’s zero reason for a Palestinian guy to platform white supremacists.
- Comment on TikTokers are heading to UpScrolled following US takeover 1 week ago:
I tried it for an hour or so and it’s absolutely filled with Nazis. One of them was criticizing Elon Musk and Trump for not being nazi enough. No thanks.

In case it wasn’t obvious, you have to be pretty fucking stupid to install surveillance in your own house linked to tech corporations, with your own money, while making them a profit.
- Comment on Wine 11 runs Windows apps in Linux and macOS better than ever 2 weeks ago:
For software developers Linux was and is the superior choice. For media based professions (video editing, digital art etc.) there’s still a long way to go. There’s way more choice on Windows and not everything works smoothly through Wine
- Comment on Sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that! PCs refuse to shut down after Microsoft patch 2 weeks ago:
I’m sure the patch was something super important like shoving more Microslop Copilot in your face, making Copilot OS even slower, and using Copilot to spy on you better
- Comment on Bluesky just verified ICE 2 weeks ago:
Most of the White House accounts were boosted by freshly created accounts. They got flagged in multiple lists immediately after joining and their engagement went to hell. After that, they got bored and went back to the nazi platform. Good moderation tools for the community helps.

Unsurprising that capitalists want to seize all the means of computation for themselves.

Lol, give these people a real fucking job.
- Comment on Lemmy.zip & Piefed.zip Server Update January 2026 4 weeks ago:
The problem with the AVIF change is that the default lemmy web client doesn’t recognize avif as an embeddable image, so when you click on it, it opens the image in the new URL, instead of zooming it to full size like a jpeg. This tanks any engagement you get on images, since people are less likely to click on links than open an image.
- Comment on Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage 1 month ago:
Clair Obscur is not indie by any definition of the term. I don’t even know why it was even considered at all.
- Comment on LG TVs’ unremovable Copilot shortcut is the least of smart TVs’ AI problems 1 month ago:
I haven’t updated my LG TV in over 2 years. I just know it’s going to be some useless shit that just makes it worse with more ads and AI
- Comment on Why? 2 months ago:
It’s also because Lemmy’s sorting algorithms are much better. On Reddit, if you’re more than 6 hours late to a post, comments won’t get any interaction.
You can tell Lemmy is written by socialists, with upvotes being much more evenly distributed and less focused on the top 5% going viral.

- Comment on Steam Hardware [new Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and VR headset Steam Frame, coming in 2026] 2 months ago:
Exactly. The performance to price ratio is much better for ARM. The only barrier to adoption is compatibility, but they seem to have a decent emulation layer for that.
- Comment on Steam Hardware [new Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and VR headset Steam Frame, coming in 2026] 2 months ago:
This could be huge for ARM adoption on PC. Exciting stuff!

Didn’t Steam already have some home console like hardware a few years ago? That flopped so badly I don’t even remember the name

Wow, this is pretty dystopian, but I guess it’s just the natural extension of supply and demand applied to the individual. Free market at its finest… The next step is to use your demographic data in calculating the price, like insurance companies already do.

- Comment on Another WSJ banger about why the poors aren't doing more 3 months ago:
Average real income (adjusted for inflation) has been pretty steady in the last 50 years for the bottom 50% bracket. The higher up you go in the income bracket the higher the growth becomes. The real income of the top 0.01% has grown by 670% in that same time. So you can see where all that extra wealth generated from 2x productivity boost has gone. Trickle up economics.
