Rent is based on La Boheme, it never tried to hide it. The character have almost identical names and they swapped tuberculosis with AIDS and it’s 100 years later.
I always wondered if La Boheme hit as hard in the 1890’s as Rent did in the 1990’s.

The Chicago anti rave law that allowed cops to treat raves like crack houses and drug dens. That meant anyone at a “rave” could have all your equipment seized and you’d be arrested. They made the definition of a rags as a gathering of 10 people and a DJ. Now a DJ isn’t going risk his decks or records being taken by the cops. The property owner could have the venue seized too.
So everything moved into the downtown Chicago clubs and because 21+ and way way more expensive.
Eventually the modern rave became EDM fests because everyone got a piece of the $$.

Taco Bell does that now. Every single drive thru I’ve gone to have a intro message
“Welcome to Taco Bell are you using the app to check in for rewards?”
And each version is clearly recorded locally because they always sound like a manager or something.
I almost want to drive to a bunch and record them for a dystopian compilation.
And I usually say “I have an order for <name>” and I get silence or a long pause and someone saying hold on.
It’s pointless. Especially when I can see the window operator handing food to a car ahead of me, I know they’re not ready but I’ve already been autoprompted by the recording.

They tried to implement that at an old job of mine, nobody did that shit. Luckily we didn’t have AI listening to every word we say.

I grew up with both, the paper ones were nice for “other” destructive purposes. And that you had a ton of shots on a roll.
The rings were nice because they always stayed in alignment. The paper ones would sometimes lose their pacing and the hammer would hit the spaces between the dots.
I remember seeing plastic 12 shot rings too.
