- Comment on YSK that you can/should budget yearly for long term purchases 21 hours ago:
What I guess I don’t get with this advice is, if you have the ability to save $X per week, why do you need to know about your headphones, why don’t you just save $X a week?
I understand that people seem to generally use up their money immediately, but for me, I simply saved whenever I didn’t need to buy something. So in the background, without even thinking about it, money just accumulates. And then, when my headphones break, I just use some of that money that accumulated for headphones.
That obviously only works if you have expendable income. But that’s what the original advice requires anyway, it requires this ability of $2 savings per week, so the expendable income is already obviously there.
I just feel like it’s so much work to do this for every single thing, when instead you could just simply save whatever is “over” your survival needs, and then draw from that fund whenever necessary without thinking about each item individually.

As a German, “German culture” is really not worth preserving.
- Comment on Could gunpowder be chemically addictive to humans ? 1 week ago:
No. But who needs chemical addiction when you can be addicted to the feeling of power over life and death it provides?
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 week ago:
Ah, for Android I use Keepass2Android which also seems to handle external changes perfectly.
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 week ago:
Idk what to tell you, but to me the merging is definitely implemented inside keepass itself, Keepass asks me if I want to merge the external changes and does so well.
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 week ago:
Doesn’t it only lead to problems if you change the same exact data on both copies to different values? It literally never happened to me, I never had a merge problem. It always just asks me to merge, I say yes, and that’s it.

Get some realistic skeletons, put them in there, don’t tell anyone about it and just seal it and forget about it.
- Comment on Is it normal to be really sentimental/upset over a bowl I accidentally smashed? I had it since I was 17 (am 30 now) and my boyfriend was alive back then too. 3 weeks ago:
Why do you care about people doing it in your area? :D
- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 3 weeks ago:
Yep and I have less time for all these things when I set up monitoring
- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 3 weeks ago:
What do you need quick? I have a Minecraft server, a wiki for random stuff, a shopping list, a calendar sync, photo hosting, a media server and probably some other shit on there.
I can think of many situations where I’d want those quickly, but need I don’t anything.
- Comment on OpenAI Is Having a Mental Health Crisis 3 weeks ago:
Of course the mental health team is bleeding talent, it’s probably (initially) consisted of people that actually care about mental health, and they gradually figured out that no matter what they do or try, the technology they work for can only ever be a net negative on mental health. I would also wash my hands off it as fast as possible and go back to actually contributing to positive mental health.
- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 3 weeks ago:
Assuming the uptime of your services are in any way important.
I’m not running a business here, I’ve got no big stakeholders. If something doesn’t work, at most me or someone close to me is affected. No one really cares if something is not available for a day.
I spent 0 minutes on monitoring and don’t intend to start now :D
- Comment on Why do some people have so many tabs open on their browser? 4 weeks ago:
Firefox actually searches tabs first when you enter something into the adress bar and switches to the tab automatically when you press enter.
- Comment on Why do I always have "dreams" that give me anxiety (aka: nightmares)? Why do I never just get to re-live my happy memories in my dreams? Wtf brain?!? This is outrageous! It's unfair! 4 weeks ago:
Two factors in my view:
- You don’t remember the good dreams, because we humans generally focus more on the bad things. Dreams generally don’t get remembered very easily, so you only remember the very impactful ones, which would thus be the bad ones
- Afaik, you do have more bad dreams if your life is filled with anxiety or danger or whatever. Your dreams in some sense a reflection of your waking life. So if your life is very stressful, maybe try to change that, and that might also change the dreams.

- Comment on When Xfinity has an outage, I don’t pay for those days. The government’s been shut down for 39 days so can I pay 39 days less in taxes? 1 month ago:
Dude even if your tax rate is 50%, that means you still earn like 7k per month. That’s so rich, I wouldn’t even know what to do with that amount (except pay off my loan in like 3 months instead of 3 years lol)
- Comment on Do air purifiers really reduce dust much? 1 month ago:
Like air filters without a filter? Because air filters are usually just fans (with a filter in it) and that’s just perfectly normal.

Perfect explanation. This kind of thing shows why tech giants are giants and why selfhosted is a niche. People like paying for convenience.

- Comment on If a girl asks you if you're big, are you supposed to lie or not? 2 months ago:
Generally, if a woman asks you this, it is supposed to trigger male penis insecurities to see how you handle it.
So, even if you are not insecure about your penis size, you’re quite obviously insecure in how to answer the question. For a woman that cares about this, you failed already, no matter what you answer.
Of course, if you manage to obscure your insecurity, your failure might be hidden. Such is the way of dating, in general.

No, I experience the same thing, I just don’t find it super annoying. I just skip over those posts, or actually, if it has comments, look at the actually different comments. Sometimes it’s quite interesting how different places have different comments
- Comment on I've recently turned into a blocker. 2 months ago:
Blocking is not an adequate defense to that anyway. If someone wants to stalk you, they can just not log in at all. You’re posting in q public place that everyone can see. Because of that, blocking only makes sense in one direction.

Forced arbitration clauses are not legal in many European jurisdictions, so “agreeing” to them didn’t actually do anything.
- Comment on A 21-23-year-old dating or sleeping with an older person doesn't automatically make the 21-23-year-old a "victim". 2 months ago:
It’s not about pedophilia, it’s about sexual strategy.
The people complaining about it are (usually) older and bitter that being young is more desirable. If humans are born in equal proportions, then one 40 year old and one 20 year old deciding to be together means there is one 40 and one 20 year old that can not have a relationship with someone their own age. Since usually it’s an older man with a younger woman, that means a young man has to find an older woman and an older woman has to find a younger man, both of which (usually) goes against their desires.
They obviously do not like that outcome, thus they try to limit who can date who based on age range, so at least they can get someone their own age.
This behavior is not usually totally conscious.
