- Comment on Is it normal I feel embarrassed about being female sometimes because of feminine smells I don't want to be associated with? 2 days ago:
Why do you care so much what other people say? Have you ever noticed this smell yourself?
- Comment on [deleted] 4 days ago:
DDG is bing and definitely has the same problems.

Play theater, start a software business, be a twitch streamer/youtuber, psychoanalyze my trauma, go scuba diving, have lots of sex, help people around me, craft decorations for my apartment, play lots of different video games, learn the piano, throw a really big party… Obviously not all at the same time, but this is still just an excerpt, it just feels like there’s just so much to do you can’t run out
The best part about all of this were the people you meet while doing these things, especially as a socially incredibly anxious person like me. Not all people are amazing, but I got to find some of them, restoring my faith and building an amazing set of friends.
- Comment on Does the first-born child in a family "mature" faster than the later-born children? 1 week ago:
Sounds like you get a lot of help to do lots of things instead of being taught how to do it yourself. Naturally, you’re going to feel like “I get things done for me, that must mean I’m inadequate to do them by myself”, and this feeling causes you to be able to do less, feeling more inadequate, thus increasing the things done for you, thus making you feel more inadequate…
Basically it sounds to me like you’re perfectly able to do it “by yourself” if you actually had to. It’s “just” the fear holding you back.
That was kind of a semi related thing. About the orientation towards your parents: if your parents are loving, and you’re autistic in some sense, then it is very likely you have little, if any, friends and definitely don’t feel loved by anyone else. Rather you feel “different”, not fitting in, like people don’t want to build deep relationships with you. Where else are you going to get that feeling from then, apart from your parents? Of course you’re going to gravitate towards them.

Just do something you haven’t done before, even if you’re not or just barely interested in it. But most of the time, we all have things we always wanted to do but a plethora of things stopped us from doing it: stigma, fear, lazyness, whatever.
Just go do it, even if you think it’ll suck. Almost guaranteed, it will not suck. Very likely, you’ll find something you love doing.
- Comment on Do you have a plan for your self-hosted data if you die? 1 week ago:
Yeah if your family is too prideful or stupid or whatever to ask your exes/friends about the “magic technology” (which like I said, asking someone who does know is super easy and sou don’t have to know anything), then I think they deserve to not get whatever is on your server, lol
- Comment on Do you have a plan for your self-hosted data if you die? 1 week ago:
Your family members are unable to ask someone else who knows someone about it to help with it? X to doubt.
But… Why do you care? What kind of information is on there? Something like the Epstein files?
At least for me, the only stuff that’s really on there is some music, photos, backups. If it gets lost, nothing really is lost.

My will contains the master password for my keepass file, from there someone could theoretically handle everything.
- Comment on How do you fight doomerism/pessimism in these trying times? 1 week ago:
Well, see, you’re kind of answering your own question. The way to “fight” doomerism is to just look at the objective truth of the situation, instead of thinking about the worst possible scenarios possible.
- Comment on Whats the best way to watch a channel's recent videos the way people just let the tv run and it plays all the most recent syndicated stuff? 3 weeks ago:
- Go to moryconvert.com/en/youtube-channel-id (or any other tool like this) and find the channel ID of the channel you want to watch
- It should have the form “UC…”, replace the C with a U
- Put the channel ID with a U instead of the C at the end of this URL: www.youtube.com/playlist?list Example:
www.youtube.com/@uThermal has the ID UC–TKxqP8xJNymgrLe-thhA so after replacing that leads to the URL www.youtube.com/playlist?list=UU--TKxqP8xJNymgrLe…

It’d be really useful to find out what “channel” you mean. YouTube I guess? Peertube? Dropout.tv?

We do already, it’s called Minecraft.

- Comment on YSK that you can/should budget yearly for long term purchases 1 month ago:
What I guess I don’t get with this advice is, if you have the ability to save $X per week, why do you need to know about your headphones, why don’t you just save $X a week?
I understand that people seem to generally use up their money immediately, but for me, I simply saved whenever I didn’t need to buy something. So in the background, without even thinking about it, money just accumulates. And then, when my headphones break, I just use some of that money that accumulated for headphones.
That obviously only works if you have expendable income. But that’s what the original advice requires anyway, it requires this ability of $2 savings per week, so the expendable income is already obviously there.
I just feel like it’s so much work to do this for every single thing, when instead you could just simply save whatever is “over” your survival needs, and then draw from that fund whenever necessary without thinking about each item individually.

No. But who needs chemical addiction when you can be addicted to the feeling of power over life and death it provides?
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 month ago:
Ah, for Android I use Keepass2Android which also seems to handle external changes perfectly.
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 month ago:
Idk what to tell you, but to me the merging is definitely implemented inside keepass itself, Keepass asks me if I want to merge the external changes and does so well.
- Comment on Why would i abbandon KeepassDX? 1 month ago:
Doesn’t it only lead to problems if you change the same exact data on both copies to different values? It literally never happened to me, I never had a merge problem. It always just asks me to merge, I say yes, and that’s it.

- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 2 months ago:
Yep and I have less time for all these things when I set up monitoring
- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 2 months ago:
What do you need quick? I have a Minecraft server, a wiki for random stuff, a shopping list, a calendar sync, photo hosting, a media server and probably some other shit on there.
I can think of many situations where I’d want those quickly, but need I don’t anything.
- Comment on OpenAI Is Having a Mental Health Crisis 2 months ago:
Of course the mental health team is bleeding talent, it’s probably (initially) consisted of people that actually care about mental health, and they gradually figured out that no matter what they do or try, the technology they work for can only ever be a net negative on mental health. I would also wash my hands off it as fast as possible and go back to actually contributing to positive mental health.
- Comment on I highly recommend journalctl-desktop-notification 2 months ago:
Assuming the uptime of your services are in any way important.
I’m not running a business here, I’ve got no big stakeholders. If something doesn’t work, at most me or someone close to me is affected. No one really cares if something is not available for a day.
I spent 0 minutes on monitoring and don’t intend to start now :D
- Comment on Why do some people have so many tabs open on their browser? 2 months ago:
Firefox actually searches tabs first when you enter something into the adress bar and switches to the tab automatically when you press enter.
- Comment on Why do I always have "dreams" that give me anxiety (aka: nightmares)? Why do I never just get to re-live my happy memories in my dreams? Wtf brain?!? This is outrageous! It's unfair! 2 months ago:
Two factors in my view:
- You don’t remember the good dreams, because we humans generally focus more on the bad things. Dreams generally don’t get remembered very easily, so you only remember the very impactful ones, which would thus be the bad ones
- Afaik, you do have more bad dreams if your life is filled with anxiety or danger or whatever. Your dreams in some sense a reflection of your waking life. So if your life is very stressful, maybe try to change that, and that might also change the dreams.

Would you say you’re a managed switch manager? Do you have any aspirations of eventually becoming a manager of other managed switch managers?
