Well, at the time, there was no AI. So a lot of this was just me and stack overflow. I imagine it’s a lot easier now.

I had 3 Ethernets. 2x 10Gbe. 1x 1Gbe.

My Synology would directly connect to the proxmox directly using the 10Gbe since it has immich on it and the source of truth is on the Synology.

The other 10Gbe went into the 10Gbe switch which had ports for 2.5Gbe and my wifi 7 connects to this.

The main WAN would come in on the 1Gbe.

Any random settings that I updated, I would lose everything and have to plug in a keyboard and redo the .conf.

What I ended up doing was just have one the 10Gbe as the router WAN and then the 1Gbe became the console/different VLAN and so I don’t count on the router to connect to my pfsense.

I still at the very end just gutted pfsense out and gave it a proper box. Never a problem since.

I did the same setup except I used pfsense and a Dell.

I wouldn’t recommend it at all. Want setting change that requires a reboot from proxmox would result in a total lots of the network. The weakest link is settings based.

I can’t begin to tell you the amount of times this happened to me that I went out and bought a Intel NUC and put the pfsense on bare metal.

I actually switched it to a LXC and it significantly faster than running it on a VM.

I’m running immich with tailscale.

I have too much data to have it on the proxmox. The source of truth is on the Synology and I have the proxmox running the immich database and thumbnails.

I did this. I kept both.

I have Synology photos and immich.

Synology photo is faster to load photos when you scroll to a random date. Also on mobile, the map view is fast and reliable. Also the Android widget can show images of a specific person instead of a random photo.

Immich has better face detection and significantly better search tool. But is super laggy when you’re looking for a specific date and time and location.

My Synology is a DS 1821+ with dual nvme cache and 32gb mem My immich is running on a proxmox using a late model Xeon processor and NVME gen 3 and 32gb mem. Nothing else is running on the proxmox.

I’m sure they have comments. I’m pretty content with our tiny islands. They can just have the rest of the land they already have.

I live in Taiwan and I’m one of the biggest Pooh bear critic on Lemmy.

A good amount of smog in Taiwan comes from China. The smog can sometimes be extremely thick that you could hardly see a few blocks away. We would regularly get warnings on our weather apps to stay indoors or close your windows.

In the past 2 years, I have seen our air quality improve significantly with this year being the best I have ever seen in Taiwan for at least a decade. The Taiwan government has also been improving its air quality, but with the recent closure of our nuclear plant and our crazy need to produce chips, it’s 2 steps back and 1 step forward.

I gotta give credit where credit is due. China has been improving its air quality and we notice it here in Taiwan.

Still, fuck Xi and his desire to take over Taiwan.

I used OpenWRT and Tomato and a bunch of other forks. I settled on pfsense on a mini PC x86 box because of the community support and great YouTube tutorials.
