- Comment on What is the moral jurisdiction behind not wishing who're rich and in executive positions to die? 3 days ago:
I basically agree with this, with one important distinction worth mentioning that being black is not a willful choice, but having billions of dollars absolutely is. I would argue that if someone has so much money there is no possible way for them to spend it all in their and their progeny’s lifetime, the only ethical thing to do is give the excess that can’t be spent away.
In general, though, I understand not all ultra wealthy are equally bad, and those who just inherited their money and sit on it aren’t anywhere near the level of those that actively influence policy for the negative. Yes there is nuance there, and yes stereotyping the whole group is reductive.
The general sentiment in OPs comment is usually rooted to in the notion that there is really no way to run a business that makes billions of dollars without underpaying or overcharging people along the way, and there is no way to justify having 100bn+ dollars all for yourself when there are so many people without. If that means those offences are extreme enough to justify murder is another question, and I agree should probably not apply categorically to all rich people equally with no deeper discussion.

That’s fair. The line is clearly harder to draw than I am making it seem. For the sake of argument, can we both agree that a line exists somewhere? Or would you putting forward that there is never a situation in which killing someone is morally justified no matter what the situation is?
And a follow up question, would you instead prefer that for certain extreme offenders, a life imprisonment sentence is used? I believe an argument could be made that, as the prison system exists in many countries now, this may be worse.
Or perhaps more broadly, for someone guilty of rampant repeated murder with no demonstrated indications of potential remorse or reform, what would be the ideal punishment or societal repercussion?
- Comment on What is the moral jurisdiction behind not wishing who're rich and in executive positions to die? 3 days ago:
I get what you are saying and it is a slippery slope, but it is very doable to draw clear, objective lines around it. “Anyone with so much money there is absolutely no way they got it without heavy worker exploitation, ie 10bn+” for example. Nothing even remotely close to the average working class individual or even minor wealthy individual
- Comment on What is the moral jurisdiction behind not wishing who're rich and in executive positions to die? 3 days ago:
I’m not sure this is categorically true. If you are in a situation where another person is clearly and obviously killing everyone around you one after the other and you could stop them by killing them, I think most would argue it is morally ok to do so. Same for a situation of like a home invasion where someone means to do immediate harm to your family and loved ones. Murder in self defense is often considered morally ok. When people in the world through their actions are killing people in enormous numbers, it is not too hard to see how someone could make a parallel to self defense.

While I mostly agree, for many kinds of ads there isn’t a great way to correlate particular ads with efficacy, so there absolutely are as campaigns that the c suite is convinced are working that are just practically not at all.

Maybe a hot take but I think this year has been one of the best for gaming in a long time. We got Claire obscur, kcd2, Hades 2, silksong so far

Yeah I mean you are probably right. In my defense, though, without having spoilers, the game is emphatically NOT pro King Arthur and the main likeable factions are the ones I would describe as Irish

I am having a great time. It’s janky, but fun. It is EXTREMELY nostalgic for early Skyrim in terms of its leveling mechanics, character development, sense of humor, and jank. Just swap the tone from Nordic to early Irish dark fantasy.
- Comment on They say word-of-mouth marketing is the most effective form of marketing. What games did you (not) enjoy that came well-recommended by friends to you, and why did they recommend it to you? 2 months ago:
Admittedly I only did the tutorial area and first town after before I lost interest. I did definitely have it pitched to me as a fully open world game which it really isn’t as I would define it. I have been told since that Arthur has a good arc and growth potential but…I guess it just took too long to get to that. It seemed to rely a bit on past game context too that I didn’t have

Witcher 3, rdr3. I know they are popular games and all my friends who also like single player rpgs love them but I just can’t with the fixed personality main characters who act in ways that frustrate me. I mean last of us was good but that was more where the player character being forced to be a dick is the main plot point, instead of a thing we are meant to ignore.

- Comment on A broken clock is right twice a day, but a wrong clock is just wrong. 2 months ago:
I mean I have heard this reasoning said differently a lot of times but isn’t that technically not true? I mean time zones only go in 1 hour increments. So if the time is 5:30 and a wrong clock says 5:40, it isn’t really 540 somewhere. It’s 530 or 630 or 730 or w/e

Yes. Boycotts don’t need to be organized to be effective. Some (def not all, and not usually Disney for that matter) to listen to fan and customer feedback.
Companies track their income trends extremely closely. Even a blip of 1% will be reported on in every shareholder meeting and need to be explained.

Of course you can be forgiven, and believe me I understand your fear. It’s scary being here too, my political ideology was basically declared a terrorist ideology yesterday and met with calls from our government for mass violence against people who hold my views.
That said, I dont hold all Germans responsible for WWII. I don’t hold all isrealis responsible for Gaza or all Russians responsible for Ukraine. I think the people who dissent against those regimes living in those countries are the best positioned to meaningfully do something about their governments, and even if they haven’t done enough to fully end the problems yet they are impactful. At least Russia and Ukraine today have active protests and civil disobedience that help if nothing else push back against the internal propaganda engines in their countries
At a time when everything seems bleak, I think finding allies where you can is more important than ever. Some of those allies will come from within. My understanding is people living in Germany who didn’t like hitler were instrumental to his downfall once Germany was meaningfully being invaded.
You can and should be worried about what the fascist USA is capable of, but I promise whatever there is that can be done against it I will be there to help (for whatever that’s worth as a non military person who is also trying to provide for my family while resisting fascism). I wish it could be more.

I wish you wouldn’t generalize the whole nation like this. Yes, roughly 1/3 of people voted for trump. Of those, a smaller number actually knew what they were doing and the ramifications of it, the rest just watch fox news and never leave their house. Not a good excuse but also not exactly willful hate.
Then there about a third who don’t have time, money, or mental energy to drop everything and try to start a resistance full time. They still have too much to lose and just want to wait this out.
Then there’s the rest of us actively trying to improve things as best we can through community organizing, resistance efforts, protesting and counter protesting, etc. We aren’t professionals, we aren’t perfect at it, but we are also not lying down and taking it. Sure, we could all just leave, but I don’t think anyone in the world wants to see what America would be like without ANY resistance to this, even assuming we had the funds to move and would be accepted by any other country.
It is depressing and often feels powerless to live here right now. We hate it and want to fix it however we can, and some of us are ready to sacrifice everything to do it. America is NOT (and never had been) a political monolith, and we extremely all do not support trump (look at his approval ratings if nothing else). The sane people here are largely ignored because our views aren’t really represented by either main party and don’t make the cut of the billionaire controlled news media who wants to keep it that way.
Beyond all of this, no one deserves to be personally blamed for the actions of their countries worst politicians simply for existing in the same physical space. Especially those of us fighting against it however we can

- Comment on People who have been in meetings to determine back to in office policy. What was the discussion like? 4 months ago:
Our office allowed voting to elect a committee to determine what return to office should look like. I was elected to it. They also hired external contractors to mediate basically. Some people came into it thinking everyone should go back to office, but by the end of it we settled that being in office should be required for certain types of work activities and not for others, and apart from the required activities for in office employees could be wherever. We drafted this up into a formalized agreement and everyone was happy with it.
Then the president who did that program retired and the new guy immediately scrapped the whole thing and forced everyone back into the office overnight without any discussion from the committee or other employees.
