- Comment on AI slows down some experienced software developers, study finds 1 week ago:
Yeah… It’s useful for summarizing searches but I’m tempted to disable it in VSCode because it’s been getting in the way more than helping lately.
- Comment on Day 353 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing 1 week ago:
This is the recompile or ship of harkinian? What texture pack are you using?
- Comment on Marginalized Americans are highly skeptical of artificial intelligence 2 weeks ago:
As skeptical as I am, I’m feeling pressure to join the BS train on this. It’s literally all over LinkedIn… Even though I’m sure it’s all mostly bullshit, it doesn’t matter that I think. What matters is that this is where billionaires are dumping their money so I need to be in a position to get some of it or I may not be able to be gainfully employed in 10 years.
- Comment on You know which voice to use. We all know which voice to use. 3 weeks ago:
Jessica from Dune encourages her son Paul to use “the voice” which is some future space wizardry that allows him to control others.
In this case, the voice that Americans (probably mostly millennials) think of when someone says “my wife” is the voice of Borat, who develops an obsession with Pamela Anderson from a Baywatch poster and refers to her as his wife.
- Comment on New Nuclear Throne beta build adds 60/120FPS support and quality of life features 3 weeks ago:
That’s odd, I thought Vlambeer was totally done.
- Comment on Why does America feel the need to control the world? Do what they say? Instead of taking care of their own problems at home? When did the US become police officer of the world and enforcer? 3 weeks ago:
Because authoritarians convinced the American people that military interventions prevent terrorist attacks to distract them from the reality which is that terrorist attacks are caused by American interventions.
It’s only possible to convince Americans of that because they are shockingly ignorant of history and they believe whatever the warmongers tell them.
- Comment on Why is my GPU's "3D" usage spiking so wildly when I'm not even playing a game? It keeps throttling up and throttling down and the noise is extremely annoying 4 weeks ago:
You could try disabling hardware acceleration in the browser and see if that makes a difference, not sure if that’s possible with modern browsers though.
- Comment on 3D-printed homes tested against earthquakes for the first time — 'Dramatic leap forward' hailed for potential use in earthquake-prone countries 4 weeks ago:
It seems cool but it’s really just printing a frame right? It’s not going to print the plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roof, septic, etc. That’s where a lot of the big costs for material and labor come in. I suspect this is why we haven’t seen this take off. Modular homes seem to have become popular and seem like a much more realistic way to mass produce homes because they can be made assembly line style in one place and then assembled on site.
- Comment on Would AI replacing humans in every workplace eventually make it easier for an advanced civilization from outer space to colonize us? 1 month ago:
It’s an interesting thought, but an alien race could be more like hive insects and are just sending out ark ships as part of an instinct to survive and thrive in as many places as possible. Like the aliens in the Ender’s game series.
Or like the race that created the Protomolecule in the expanse, they sent a probe into a system that looked promising possibly even before humans existed and had no way to know if it had intelligent life and their probe is basically going to autonomously consume organic material as part of building a highway off ramp.
