I was making a reference to to Harlan Ellison’s I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream in which characters are kept alive and tortured for eternity. In the end one character takes one for the team, killing the others to end their suffering, and as punishment is reduced to a blob with no limbs or mouth so they can’t harm themselves.

isn’t it funny how the folks who actually study, design, and make things earn pennies compared to the C-suit gang that takes home the lion’s share for diddling with money (and kids)?

If you make a product that you have to manipulate people into buying, maybe it’s a piece of shit and you’re and even bigger piece of shit. Your boss is probably a fetid old piece of shit which has dried and stuck to the side of the bowl for decades - the morbid husk of a once human thing that exists only to steal the fruits of Labor. Yet even the boss covets the power of the Great Rich Ones whom they serve in the hopes that they will be elevated to their number. The Great Rich Ones, possessed of insatiable greed and unfathomable indifference, travelling in relative silence behind the shadows cast by our world like great assteroids unlit by the sun, pulling smaller objects into their feculent and smothering embrace. At the center of this madness is Assathoth, the blind idiot God, whose benighted diarrhea-dipped tentacles guide the Market from angles beyond perception and weave the waking nightmare of our capitalist reality.

I recognized even back then that it wasn’t perfect, yet in many ways the culture of the 90s felt more progressive than today. And there was hope about the future.

It is an ideal belief system for soi-disant libertarians who realize that, regardless of the principles of freedom being the ostensible foundation of their ideology, they are unwilling to tolerate others’ enjoyment of freedom.

it’s good at generating content but terrible at logical reasoning and mission-critical tasks that require consistency. Thank goodness nobody is crusading to have AI take over medicine.
