I’m not opposed to ditching them but could you provide me an article or source for these controversies?

I’ve used PIA for years with no issues.

Switched my Mom to Kubuntu from Windows 10. Haven’t had any issues. The only windows software she used was an older version of Quicken but GNUCash wasn’t too much for her to pickup. It’s nice no longer having to rely on M$ for home computing.

Your right, we should make our homes vulnerable to unlawful paramilitary for the hypothetical firefighter’s safety.
- Comment on 64GB of DDR5 RAM now costs more than a MacBook Air - memory prices have surged 300% in just six months 2 weeks ago:
It’s truly mental. I don’t think I could afford to build my PC at the same spec today with RAM and SSD prices being what they are.

Unlike Russia we have tools and if they do start disappearing people you’d be a fool not to booby trap your property. If they’re not following laws why should we?

Mini LED is the way to go for longevity imo.
- Comment on The TV industry finally concedes that the future may not be in 8K 4 weeks ago:
I’ve got a nice 4k mini LED tv with a 4k Blu-ray player and there’s plenty of excellent 4k content but it’s a niche market because most people aren’t using physical media for movies. 4k streaming is garbage compared to UHD Blu-ray.

I’m still rocking a ti89, only got to play around with the ti92 once. It had some cool programs back in the day. I can only imagine what the dev community is up to these days.
- Comment on What are your opinions of using Pi-hole for DNS within a homelab environment? 2 months ago:
Not at all. She knows how to use a browser and login credentials. It’s not like she’s gotta SSH into the thing with CLI.
- Comment on What are your opinions of using Pi-hole for DNS within a homelab environment? 2 months ago:
My 65 yo mother can disable and enable the 2 piholes on her home network when she needs to and she’s not a techie. How are people so incompetent?
- Comment on Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux 2 months ago:
I believe it was only utilized by Gran Turismo 3 for connecting two systems to play against each other. Nobody else developed for it.

Got a Firewire port on my PS2. The only thing I’ve ever owned with Firewire and I never even used it.
- Comment on RAM is so expensive, Samsung won't even sell it to Samsung 2 months ago:
No kidding! I postponed replacing my old Sandybridge in 2020 because of pandemic prices and then jumped on building my new rig in early 2024 when prices were the lowest I’d seen in some time. Also, grabbing a couple more sticks of 32 Gb DDR4 for my homelab this spring now seems like it was a good choice.
