FairPhone can run Postmarket OS, eOS, iodeos, calyxos and lineageos.
Some have longer support than others. Also you can buy separate parts for their phones and they are modular.

So what is there for normies? YouTube which is also owned by a fascist company. Deezer which is shit. Apple which is another fascist company that supports trump. Tidal which has also had its fair share of controversy ( not paying artists), shit ui etc.
And if you mention the fediverse people will look at you like you speak an alien language.

What about people who already have a BT headset? You just straight up assume everyone still had a headset with wires lying around and that they somehow never break.
Having to buy something makes it bad isn’t really an argument. If you start reasoning like that its better to start living in the woods with no possessions at all.

They are easily repairable and you don’t have to throw them away if the battery goes bad (just replace it).
How is that a bad thing? About 90% of other brands you can throw them away if the battery goes bad or they break.

Lol, this is exactly why I use Lemmy. Sure there might be less engagement than reddit. But I’d rather gargle a bucket of diarrhea than go back to that shitty place.
- Comment on An analysis of X(Twitter)'s new XChat features shows that X can probably decrypt users' messages, as it holds users' private keys on its servers 5 weeks ago:
Yes and? Do people who use X really care about privacy. Everyone who even remotely cared already jumped ship and moved on to matrix, signal, Simplex etc.
And im not even mentioning the fact X is owned by a psychopath. But hey let’s pretend they care about your privacy.

- Comment on End of 10 - Windows ten is ending. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again? 2 months ago:
No one (meaning less than 1% of people) will leave windows (sadly).
People are lazy as shit and rather swipe their credit cards and buy something new with windows than to even give Linux a chance.
99% of people really don’t give a shit about privacy or freedom when it comes to computers. Microsoft could slap handcuffs on them and point a camera at their screen and they’d still use windows.
- Comment on Android’s next big feature turns your phone into a desktop 2 months ago:
Yeah… I dont see this happening. Android has 99% shovelware crap. I dont see how any professional would be able to use Android instead of Windows, MacOS or Linux.
Android is garbage, and I’m saying this as an android user… The moment a serious Linux alternative is here for phones I’m gone (yes I’m aware Android is technically also “Linux”).
Just a few examples: the file system is a mess, good luck trying to easily save on network drives. There is no decent office suite and again using the files system to save documents in Android is a shitshow. There are Adobe products but they’re all watered down shitty versions of the desktop ones, the alternatives are even worse. Around every corner google tries to push it’s shitty cloud subscriptions, the telemetry is insane even compared to windows.
No Android is definitely not the future chromebooks were a mess too. And knowing Google they’ll just give up on anything they don’t seem profitable enough so even if they tried on desktop they’ll just pull the plug after 2 years.
- Comment on Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion's level scaling was a "mistake", says designer, so why is it in the remaster? 2 months ago:
I usually went Arena first in the OG oblivion, leveled up my character as much as possible (as perfect as possible) and then started doing quests. It was a nice controlled environment to level combat skills in. I was high level but never encountered any major problems at that point. I mean sure… if i only focused on blade (and maxed it to 100) and suddenly started using bow and arrow (which is at 15 or 20) then i’d have a bad time but thats how Morrowind did it too. Arguably even worse in Morrowind lol, god i hated that you could miss swings (but at the time i guess a lot of RPG’s worked that way). But if i went into the world immediately and just started doing quests i was screwed since its almost impossible to level perfectly in an uncontrolled environment.
What i really like about the remaster is that i can just start doing quests immediately without having to worry about ruining my character. I feel I have much more control of how I want to build my character now, in the original i felt i had to play by a playbook for leveling and when i was high lvl enough i could finally start enjoying the game.
- Comment on Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion's level scaling was a "mistake", says designer, so why is it in the remaster? 2 months ago:
This is why rock paper shotguns sucks ass and I never take their articles seriously.
Bethesda DID fix the leveling system in the remasters. The problem was not the level scaling, it was the fact you had to train every single major skill perfectly or else you would miss out on points and become underpowered compared to the enemies which have leveled with you. So if you leveled wrongly you would have anywhere between 5? To 10 points ti spend and if you did correctly you had more… the remaster fixes this by always giving you the max amounts of points to spend each level you gain.
I can spend an entire paragraph explaining why but this article Probably does it better

Its pretty idiotic too. What’s the point in having a karma system if you’re just going to ban anyone who you disagree with.
- Comment on Getting mixed signals from Reddit. Furthermore I shall henceforth be on Lemmy full time. 2 months ago:
Yeah but at least the platform is decentralised meaning you can still move your stuff to a better instance.
On reddit you can do no such thing. Lemmy is definitely not perfect but still miles better than reddit.

I just bought it so I guess ill find out. It’s a great game regardless whether they fixed it or not. I can always go archer or sword.
- Comment on Oblivion Remaster Rockets Past 100K Players on Steam Hours After Launch - Insider Gaming 2 months ago:
Yeah that’s probably it. I remember the scaling being awful if you didn’t spend all points perfectly each level. They must have fixed it since i don’t seen anyone complaining about it.
I’ll check some videos this weekend when there is more known about it. I’m looking forward to playing it again though.

So did they fix the magic system? One of my biggest problems with the original was that magic was near pointless. After like 30 levels magic felt like throwing rocks at a tank.
- Comment on Synology restricts choice of hard disks for new Plus NAS 2 months ago:
Is that really an alternative though? I bought a synology because I don’t want to spend hours and hours configuring shit, only for it to break after an update. I fiddled around with proxmox, truenas etc. But it’s a hassle. I absolutely believe that DIY is the way to go if you have the time for it though.
I hate what synology is doing and seeing where most companies are heading I’m pretty sure the enshittification won’t stop at using their own branded HDDs. But I just want a solution that works. As shitty as this move by synology is for me its still cheaper to spend 30 euros more on a drive and have a hassle free solution then screwing around with DIY solutions.
Please prove me wrong though… I’m trying to rid myself of big tech and have been pretty successful so far (linux, self hosting, no more streaming subscriptions etc.). If anyone knows of a better solutions that had synology drive like function and hyper backup like function with a minimal maintenance OS I’m all for it.
- Comment on For me, it's going to be Fediverse or nothing 2 months ago:
The problem with Matrix to me is that it is simply too unstable. I can open it up on any device and half the messages won’t load or are corrupted. Media won’t show at all. In contrast Lemmy has been super reliable and “just works”.
I just want working voice chat and group chats.
The entire streaming i don’t really care about. There are other apps for that.
But yeah as it is I’m probably better off using discord until the enshittification is so bad no one wants to use it anymore.
- Comment on For me, it's going to be Fediverse or nothing 2 months ago:
I’ve already settled on making lemmy my new home a long while ago. I like it here and there is more than enough engagement.
What i can’t really find an alternative for is discord… it’s going through the “enshittification fascism techbro” phase.
I tried matrix but honestly it sucks, Its so incredibly buggy it’s barely even usable. I’m still willing to give it a try since it seems very promising but the instability is a big downside.

I wish phones were more like regular computers where you just buy a phone and then decide which OS you install. Or at least be able to change the OS.
- Comment on YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy 3 months ago:
I dont trust anything that isn’t fully decentralized. Bluesky is very weird in that regard, its partially centralised. I guess it’s better than Twitter (but that is setting the bar very low). I still refrain from using it too often.
It will almost certainly have ads in the future and will inevitably go down the path of reddit, twitter and Facebook so I prefer to use something that is completely out of reach of the CEO if something goes to shit.
