Sein should have been there. He’d visit a tavern for a drink or two and this time probably lament how it should have been him on a date with an older woman instead.

Submitted my nominations. Thank you for your hard work, wjs018!
Hikaru voters, please, consider nominating “Hibi no Kage” for Best Musical Sequence (OP/ED or insert song) category. It was an insert song from Episode 7, performed both by the choir and Hikaru and Yoshiki as a duet later.

Finished Dear Brother. These step-siblings didn’t develop romantic feelings for each other? Unheard of! The whole onii-sama thing is more of a tool to progress the story and help Nanako to process her feelings by writing letters to Henmi. There is something poetic in such kind of storytelling.
Modern viewers will find Dear Brother overly dramatic and ridiculously intense, but it’s a good coming-of-age story that explores such themes as bullying, jealousy, self-harm, social hierarchy, friendship, first love, family ties, and more. I did find myself laughing at the drama at times, but it also had some humorous, more subtle moments that made me giggle.
The main heroine, Nanako, is very sweet and kind, but Mariko remains my favourite.
spoiler
She is so animated, charming and effortlessly funny once she overcomes her obsessive behaviour and finds true friends in Nanako and Tomoko. The always-plotting Miya-sama had such a scary, villainous aura, but at the end of the day she’s still too young and feels too much. She wasn’t irredeemable after all.
I’m glad I was able to appreciate this story to the fullest.

I rewatch lots of anime, but for some reason, I almost exclusively rewatch sentimental favorites and guilty pleasures. If something is undeniably outstanding, like Frieren, I have some sort of aversion to rewatching it. I’m not sure why.
Even this experience is universal, huh? In my case, I think, it’s because I’m subconsciously afraid of not liking it as much so it stops feeling special. I dread the feeling of disappointment.
I spent so much time the first time on edge, afraid that they were going to kill off characters I liked, and this time I knew that everyone who mattered to me was going to survive.
Frieren has an insanely great cast. Almost everyone is likeable. Who are your favourites?

What did she say last episode? I must’ve missed it.
She said that one of the girls was super cute right after entering the entrance ceremony hall. Like, why was it the first thing she noticed in the new environment? Sus.
You missed nothing, basically. I’m just picking up crumbs and putting them in a pile at the moment.
But what if she becomes a bassist?!
Nani?! Well, she did like that song’s bass part, but I think this is where the girl from the OP comes in.

Seeing your parents in a new light is an integral part of growing up. This show does a terrific job at depicting realistic human relationships.
Based on what Emiri said in the last two episodes and her reactions in this one, I’m making a guess that she is a lesbian.
The Bernese Mountain Dog!
I’m so happy with Asa’s club choice. I want to hear her sing.

OPs
Fate/strange Fake OP: “PROVANT” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Jean-Ken Johnny & TAKUMA - looks and sounds vibrant, grand, and fitting to the series. I need more Jean-Ken Johnny in my anime themes.
You and I Are Polar Opposites OP: “Megane wo Hazushite” by noa - a wonderful mix of different visual techniques. Looking forward to see what magic Kyouhei Ishiguro creates next.
Tamon’s B-Side OP: “Sweet Magic” by F/ACE - the song is as cringe as most idol songs are, ngl, but it’s still fun and goes well with the visuals. I like how Utage wakes up at the end and thanks her God for sending her a sweet, sweet, sweet dream or something.
Medalist S2 OP: “Cold Night” by HANA - it has an upbeat, feel-good vibe about it. The dance routine is my favourite part.
Oshi No Ko S3 OP2: “Test Me” by CHANMINA - didn’t expect to ever like an Oshi no Ko theme, but here I am. It’s perfectly sensual and ominous. I haven’t read the source material, but it gives me “Hyakka Ryouran”'s levels of foreshadowing.
Frieren S2 OP: “lulu.” by Mrs. GREEN APPLE - I like the song more than “Yuusha” or “Haru”, but I prefer Haru’s crispier feel. New OP’s filter is bothering me, I’m not particularly fond of this hazy look.
In the Clear Moonlit Dusk OP: “Uruwashi” by UNISON SQUARE GARDEN - it’s not fancy, but both the song and the colour palette make it work.
EDs
Frieren S2 ED: “The Story of Us” by milet - it’s not “Anytime Anywhere”, but still a good song to accompany those majestic pencil drawings.
Trigun Stargaze ED: “Stardust” by FOMARE - baby, the stars shine bright. It’s beautiful. I like it a lot.
Shiboyugi ED: “Inori” by Chiai Fujikawa - I am not watching the show, but this ED is hauntingly beautiful. It’s gorgeous. Immaculate vibes.
I didn’t care for the theme overall but I liked the song: “Make Me Wonder” by Official HIGE DANdism from Darwin Jihen OP and “Yoake no Uta” by jo0ji from JJK The Culling Game ED.

The portrayal of frustration and irritability from noise overstimulation was too real. I feel for Makio. New living conditions are hard for both Makio and Asa, though in completely different ways.
What’s wonderful about Makio is that she recognizes Asa is a child, who needs support, and actually tries to be considerate of her. She isn’t perfect for the job, and she knows it, but not any adult would’ve been able to handle similar situation in such a mature way.

My heart wasn’t prepared for all the cuteness. I was smiling the whole time.
The invisible guy sure is good at reading Shizuka’s expressions, but then, again, the thought of “Operation Share a Cup of Tea Take 2” was written all over her face.
I liked that they showed Shizuka turning on the light in her house for Akira.
The “handkerchief” moment was so funny. The detective skills used to the fullest indeed.
Man, you can’t say her first name twice with different intonation all of a sudden. Even my heart was melting. Japanese voice actors doing god’s work, as always.
Shizuka was the first to notice Akira’s good mood based on voice alone. It was not only a great demonstration of how she relies on hearing, but also how she can’t participate in discussions that require vision, like the suit’s colour and how good it looks on Akira.
We got a side couple! Shizuka and Luna are not the only ones who want to know what happened in the mountains.
The cold made Shizuka so greedy she completely forgot about her mother. I don’t blame her in the slightest.
I’m sorry you can’t see this, girl. But don’t worry, you’ll find out sooner or later.
The way he exclaimed “Mother?!” sent me. Ah, such a fun episode.

Instead of the usual pink cloud Utage’s head was exploding in fireworks, because it’s a festival episode. I love how fun and refreshing the gags in this show are.
Despite the festive atmosphere I found this episode rather sad. Seems like our Miss Kinoshita has a low self-esteem and considers herself unlovable, just like Gloomyhara.
Also, back off, Ouri. Your chances are below zero. Shoo. Shoo!

Checked out more of this season’s premieres.
Champignon Witch - it has a fairy tale feel. I somehow expected it to be cute and episodic, but it turned out to be a drama with an actual plot and thought-out lore.
The Darwin Incident - the story raises interesting philosophical questions, but so far lacks in execution. The writing feels rather bland.
The Holy Grail of Eris - managed to interest me in the conspiracy behind Scarlett’s death.
The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife - pairing up a blind woman with an invisible guy, who happens to be a gentleman in a suit, is a genius move. It’s sweet and wholesome, but, since they are both adults, I expect to see more spicy moments as their romance develops.
Isekai Office Worker: The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter - the premise sure was premising at the start of the second episode. It was premising so hard I remembered my fujoshi days and screamed all the way. A BL isekai with an adult cast was unseen in anime form before this one, I believe. It’s fun seeing Aresh get frustrated with Seiichirou’s corporate slave mindset. That long “Haaaaaaaaaaaah?” when Seiichirou ran off to work right after waking up was hilarious. May a hot man heal that unrepentant workaholic and change his unhealthy lifestyle.
A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation - an isekai about a noble transported from one fantasy world to another and being extremely chill about it. I’m a bit confused about the title, because the guy decides to become an adventurer of all things. I don’t see BL in genres tags, but the vibe is there. It looks and feels like isekai targeted at female audience. Fascinating we got two of them in one season all of a sudden. I don’t know what to make of it so far, but I’ll keep watching for now; I quite enjoy hearing Souma Saitou’s calm noble voice.
Love Through A Prism - haven’t finished it yet, but one thing I appreciate about it is how the story’s progress gives the drama time to develop so that it doesn’t feel forced or like coming from nowhere and characters’ grievances feel believable. Having 20 episodes certainly helps.
Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary and Scum of the Brave - I would give both more episodes in a slightly less busy season, but with Love Through A Prism batch release and Fushigi Yuugi and Dear Brother, which I started when the current season wasn’t in full swing yet, something had to be sacrificed, and nothing about these two particularly stood out to me.
Fall 2025 leftovers
To Your Eternity Season 3 - Fushi has finally realized that his friends have got to live their own lives and there is nothing he can do to prevent them from struggling and facing new challenges. Heartbreaking. This story is at its best when it focuses on Fushi and his friends instead of nokkers.
Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider - Still fun. I’ve seen people being disappointed with ramen-loving idol episodes, but I thoroughly enjoyed them. I mean, Sena just went and domesticated a powerful Shocker, isn’t it hilarious? I wonder if it would be relevant to the plot later. Maybe Kumota would feel a tinge of sympathy for humans or something.

Makio was so used to her sister’s judgmental attitude, expecting to hear only criticism her whole life, it’s no wonder Nana’s words made her tear up and consider life worth living. Nana may have forgotten writing that letter, but Makio will cherish the memory forever. I think she understands how much meaning simple words can carry in people’s lives better than anyone, and that’s why she shared the story with Asa. It made Asa think of Emiri and realize that their friendship is also precious like that, which gave her a necessary push to pick up the phone and call Emiri. Simply beautiful. Just thinking about it makes my eyes watery again. What a powerful episode.

This season
Fate/strange Fake - I am but a casual Fate watcher, who has seen only Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero and did or did not find it too pretentious to my liking, why am I enjoying it this much? The cast is fun, the priest is somehow annoying but in a hot way, and the blond girl with her knight duo’s dynamic looks interesting. Fun.
In the Clear Moonlit Dusk - I was so afraid the guy would remind me of Itsuomi and I would have to either suffer or drop it, but, luckily, it wasn’t the case (I’m staying optimistically cautious though). I’m pretty sure manga is more gorgeous, but I’ll keep watching for now, since it’s from the author of Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet and Hirunaka no Ryuusei, and I enjoyed both.
You and I Are Polar Opposites – hand-holding in the very first episode? Modern romances know no shame. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this premiere. I liked how supportive Suzuki’s friends were of her. Also, OP reminded me of Shoshimin’s Kaseijin, so I looked into the director. Kyouhei Ishiguro, got to remember this name.
The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer - watching the cast going on with their daily lives is almost satisfying, though I mostly ignore the torture bits. The boys are cute. The banter is good.
Dark Moon - looks like your standard supernatural reverse harem slop. I’m gonna watch it unironically. For now, that is.
Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You Season 2 - the production is still bad, but at least there is emotion in voices. I’m kinda addicted to this friends circle drama. Maybe I should switch to manga.

Makio noticed that Asa is good at singing, and now I expect her to sing or hum a melody every upcoming episode. Otherwise I’ll be teeny tiny bit disappointed.
Both Nana and Shingo are a great addition to the cast. I hope to hear more of Nana’s laugh.
The way Asa always reacts to adults doing or saying something that is not very grown-up in her opinion is quite fascinating. I wonder if it’s just a child’s idea of an adult thing or her mother’s influence.

I both loved and hated the ending. From a philosophical perspective, it was excellent, but from a narrative perspective it was a bit underwhelming.
I wish it ended on episode 23. I may have liked the ending if it got more episodes to get used to, but the shift from the story to the philosophy lesson was too abrupt for my liking. It somewhat ruined my overall enjoyment of the show.
However, leading into the conclusion, I definitely felt my lack of knowledge impacted my enjoyment.
I think one needs to be a true Gundam fan to enjoy GQuuuuuuX. I watched first Gundam, but still felt confused at times. My biggest problem with the show, though, was the main trio and how underdeveloped those characters were. At least the animation and cinematography looked cool.
- Comment on Winter 2026 Anime Season Kickoff and General Discussion Thread [2026, Week 02] 4 weeks ago:
Finished Hana yori Dango. It was delightfully messy and super fun to watch. I really liked the female characters. Tsukushi is an amazingly strong main heroine, Tsubaki is a great sister and adult, and Shigeru’s personality makes her a good friend. Also, it’s truly pretty aesthetic-wise. I’m all about seasonals, but I get where the nostalgia for old art-styles is coming from.
This Season
- Sentenced to Be a Hero – instant drop. I was quite baffled to see such an overwhelming positive reception of its premiere around the net. I’m glad people have something to enjoy and look forward to though, it’s simply not for me.
- Tamon’s B-Side – I’ve read a couple of chapters after the adaptation announcement to see what to expect, and so far so good. Utage’s obsession with Tamon is what I’m here for.
Can I also get a second season of Eripiyo fangirling over Maina? - Hana-Kimi – It would have looked so good if it was adapted in its time.
- Ikoku Nikki – I think it’s the earliest in the season I get my AOTS contender.

This season
Dropped Ranma. The first season fooled me into thinking I might actually enjoy Rumiko Takahashi’s works, but no, they are simply not for me.
Picked up Wandance. The dancing part isn’t of particular interest to me, but I liked the main characters. That accidental hand-holding scene in the fifth episode was cute, kinda genius and suiting Wanda’s personality.
Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26. Hilarious stuff. I loved the humour in Sisters, Love Is Blind, and Sasaki Stopped a Bullet. It’s the kind of humour that makes me wonder what’s going on in Fujimoto’s head. Chickens episode had really fun, dynamic animation, and I would have loved Yuuto if the running time were longer. My favourite part in Shikaku was the vampire laughing his ass off. So if I were to rank them based on personal enjoyment: 8 (Sisters) > 3 (Love Is Blind) > 2 (Sasaki Stopped a Bullet) > 1 (A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard) > 4 (Shikaku) > 7 (Nayuta of the Prophecy) > 6 (Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome) > 5 (Mermaid Rhapsody).

I’m not particularly impressed with fall season themes, but I did enjoy some of them.
- Kingdom S6 ED: “Houkou” by Sora Tomonari - my favourite ED of the season. I love both the visual part and the song.
- To Your Eternity S3 OP: “Fumetsu no Anata” by Perfume - another theme I watch every week. I find that sequence with water in the beginning really cool. The song is nice.
- Ginpachi-sensei OP: “Sakurakaze” by Botchi Boromaru - so fun and easy to sing along to.
- Sanda OP: “Adult Chick Children” by yama - the visual style is interesting to look at.
- Sanda ED: “Diary” by Soushi Sakiyama - sweet illustrations.
- With You, Our Love Will Make It Through ED: “Kimi ni Naretara” by Yoh Kamiyama - the song’s mellow vibe and the visuals with lovely colours go well together.
- Ao no Orchestra S2 OP: “Amadeus” by Galileo Galilei - I’m just happy to see my beloved Galileo Galilei performing anime themes again.
This season
Last week I dropped Towa no Yuugure, This Monster Wants to Eat Me, Ninja vs. Gokudo, and May I Ask for One Final Thing? However, I decided to stick with Yano-kun’s Ordinary Days. Third episode was an improvement for me, and then Kiyoko charmed me with her square mouth faces. Seems like Yano has finally fallen for her charm as well.
