- Comment on Fake reviews on Play Store by Plex staff 4 days ago:
It lives on an isolated VLAN with traffic routed through a VPN service on a dedicated NAS for movies. If someone gets into it, they’ll get no personal info but my movies.

Jellyfin works fine. No point paying for Plex.
- Comment on Marc Andreessen predicts one of the few jobs that may survive the rise of AI automation 2 weeks ago:
Exactly. They want their version of The Network State

It’s great. It’s super relaxing and a great way to stay at interesting places on the cheap. You can learn a lot of useful skills doing it as well. Humans lived most of our existence much more in the outdoors than today. I think it’s therapeutic to connect with nature in a more direct way like a lot of camping styles / locations can offer.

This is exactly why I deleted Facebook and Instagram. It no longer served it’s only purpose.

Centralized for profit social media should be over.
- Comment on 34% of the US population doesn't vote. Why do polticalitcians cling to the idea that these voters can't be reached? 3 weeks ago:
I thought you still had to file regardless, even if you aren’t paying anything. I filed when I was in college made under that limit working part time. Got money refunded from my taxes paid because I was below the poverty line.
- Comment on 34% of the US population doesn't vote. Why do polticalitcians cling to the idea that these voters can't be reached? 3 weeks ago:
They need to just put voting in with taxes. Everyone files taxes and if they aren’t at least filing them, then they shouldn’t vote. Setting up in person poling is expensive and takes a ton of volunteering and is a rush to happen over time. The IRS is already solid at record keeping and the infrastructure for data collection is there. We don’t need years of campaigning. Plus, it would kill the horse race aspect of things if the votes were all tallied as they go. I think it would make the whole system easier and would help with any voter verification issues. No one is filing taxes in duplicate to vote more than once. Lol

Not a huge blow to companies this large sadly.

That stinks. I have the F4-424 Pro and I love it.

Mine has an internal USB so you can open it up pretty easily and install any version of Linux you prefer. Not sure what model you bought, but I would assume you can too.
- Comment on In the future old Cisco network switches will be like pipe organs 3 weeks ago:
I work for an ISP, I definitely know how long old equipment gets held onto. Lol. Not saying it doesn’t happen, just saying Cisco isn’t the ubiquitous quality product it used to be.
- Comment on Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move - ServeTheHome 3 weeks ago:
I bought a Terramaster instead. Better hardware specs for the money and you can overwrite the OS with Linux which is way better than any stock OS.
- Comment on In the future old Cisco network switches will be like pipe organs 3 weeks ago:
Most of the internet infrastructure above the LAN side is actually Nokia switches these days. Cisco has lost a lot of market share.
- Comment on How Elon Musk's favorite news influencer is capitalizing on his clout 4 weeks ago:
People need to get off all corporate social media. It can’t be trusted.
- Comment on finally got static IP from a new ISP 4 weeks ago:
That only happens from incompetence or bad IPAM software. It’s easy to assign a static in most management systems. As long as you set up the static in your router correctly, it should just stay.

Sleep Number beds are like $10,000 for some models already. Who knows what ridiculousness they will charge for an “AI” bed.

- Comment on Obama wasn't a hero; he just wasn't terrible 1 month ago:
Obama’s policies were mostly Heritage foundation fed too. The ACA was a Heritage Foundation plan. His bank bail out was a hand out to the rich without consequence. His foreign policy was bad towards the middle East and awful for human rights. He deported more people than any president before him. By all metrics, he was a Republican. He was historic, sure, but I don’t think he was any better than Biden in relation to policies that helped regular people or embrace of the anti-human rights policies. People’s memories tend to soften situations or maybe just politics was more muted at the time. Democrats have been right wing lite for my whole life.
- Comment on Europe proposes backdoors in encrypted platforms under new security strategy 1 month ago:
This is so fucking stupid. Major crime organizations and governments can easily afford non-commercial encrypted communications. This will only be used to spy on citizens.

- Comment on We're cooked, I'm hooked 1 month ago:
Yes. Capitalism was in an ideological battle with communism so the government put it thumb on the scale with socialism but gave credit to capitalism for the outcome. Then billionaires spent 75 years indoctrinating, corrupting, and distorting history to claw back their power.
- Comment on Google Is Helping the Trump Administration Deploy AI Along the Mexican Border 1 month ago:
Just a quid pro quo to give google a fat government hand out. Only purpose it will serve is to give border agents something to blame for issues. Just like every time DOGE messes up.
- Comment on YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy 1 month ago:
Showing how truly performative their big “ally” push was during the pandemic. All their BLM and diversity support was just as performative. Big corporations are just sycophantic monsters riding trends. Avoid them where possible.
- Comment on US bans government personnel in China from romantic or sexual relations with Chinese citizens 1 month ago:
Yeah, that will stop it. An element of danger and secrecy historically always stops sex and relationships. 🤣
- Comment on We're cooked, I'm hooked 1 month ago:
Seriously. This country couldn’t do a better job promoting socialism if it tried. Capitalism to a majority of people under 50 means instability and hardship.
- Comment on Do people really think setting up domestic manufacturing in the USA is easy? 1 month ago:
Not to mention any new factories will have drastically fewer jobs than the factories that left due to newer factories being highly automated. The cost of retrofitting existing factories has stopped many companies from upgrading to keep higher their quarterly profits for investors. If they are forced to build, they will invest in money saving long run cost savings like automation.

- Comment on What if there really was a "pee tape"? 1 month ago:
Bush was a bigger threat to democracy than Bin Laden. People forget this unitary executive theory Trump is abusing so extremely was first brought to prominence by Bush. Bush also brought the PATRIOT act to open a lot of authoritarian doors. The Trumpster fire would not be possible without the Bush Jr.
