- Comment on What's going on with Borderlands 2? Steam is giving it for free, but the game has 23% positive recent reviews. 16 hours ago:
LOL. I loved the Borderlands franchise, until Epic made their evil dog shit app store and the Borderlands devs sold out to them. Motherfuck Borderlands forever now. Thanks for the warning so I don’t accidentally reinstall any of it from Steam.
- Comment on Why does Apple make a minority of developers finance the entire App Store? 1 day ago:
See I bet you think that would make things better, don’t you?
It won’t. It will make them so much worse.
Unless the EU (government) runs it, you’re going to get the world’s shadiest App Store or Sores possible.
“Just don’t use the shady ones then.”
That’s great until:
- It’s your SO or kid accessing it and they don’t know any better.
- You just bought something (an appliance, a vehicle, an FPV drone, whatever) and it requires you to use an app, and that app is an exclusive on the shadiest App Store possible.
“That doesn’t happen on android!”
It will absolutely happen with Apple, because there’s so much money that will be up for grabs.
I hope you like signing up with all your personal data and credit card information on app stores that make Apple look like saints, because that’s where this is headed, and sadly you’ll drag me with you.
Because again this hypothetical thing you bought might be a family member buying it, so it won’t even be up to you at that point.
This is what I see happening in the future.
The way to avoid it is to get rid of app stores completely, and have users download and install apps one by one. Like that’s going to happen.

Marketing means bothering people. Two of the raspberry pi’s I own are dedicated to fighting unsolicited marketing. Marketing is anathema to me.
- Comment on This new 40TB hard drive from Seagate is just the beginning—50TB is coming fast! 4 days ago:
I have a 20TB seagate exos drive in my main pc and I hate it. Partly due to my case, but it’s noisy and does an obnoxious head reset (or whatever) every 7 minutes or so. It’s so loud.
- Comment on Forced E-Waste PCs And The Case Of Windows 11’s Trusted Platform 1 week ago:
ROFL no. I once knew someone who got offered an upgrade from whatever to Windows 10, only for it to fail half way through because their CPU was some weird corner case that the OS thought it supported but when it was time to boot… didn’t.
Also if you want to talk e-waste, look no further than Chromebooks.
Windows 11 has problems, this is hardly one of them.

All the soulless companies that employ temporary tech workers in the US for the mega corporations here just collectively got erections. This is their goal.

The fucking healthcare conglomerate (owned by UnitedHealth, yes that one) that bought up the majority of medical practices in my region just sent me a completely unsolicited debit or credit card.
They don’t provide my health insurance. They’re just who owns most of the doctors offices around here.
- Comment on Is Washington state falling out of love with Tesla? 1 week ago:
The early adopters certainly are. You still see plenty of them including cybertrucks, unfortunately.
One of my friends is considering replacing his with Lucid cars.
They’ve had Teslas since well before Elon was problematic publicly.

Doom E1M1 on my soundblaster and my Roland MT-32, all pumped through my surround sound system in my concrete dorm room in late 1992 and I won’t hear otherwise.
- Comment on YSK that editing Wikipedia is easier than it looks (and where to start) 2 weeks ago:
I made a very minor edit once that was perfectly legitimate and corrected an error. It was immediately reverted, ensuring I’d never donate so much a $0.01 to Wikimedia. Probably over 20 years ago now.
I hope it has turned around since then and that OP’s words and effort aren’t in vain. I’ll never know.

Hey remember when Google used to have a motto, “Don’t be evil”?
Used to.
- Comment on Microsoft pulls MS365 Business Premium from nonprofits 3 weeks ago:
Yup it’s mostly bullshit. Someone, somewhere might benefit, but certainly not any of the people within two thousands miles of where the rich guy lived. Which is still better than nothing, but Bill Gates could end homelessness in America immediately if he chose to do so. (I’m not saying it would be easy or fast, just that he has the money to make it happen.) He could make ALL COLLEGE FREE for students. Musk could have too, likely for less than he spent on Twitter.

At this point if you’re buying their stuff, you’re the reason they get away with it and you’re the problem because you can’t control them, you can only control you… and you didn’t.

Easy solution: Don’t buy one. Play games on a PC. Nintendo isn’t your friend.
- Comment on Games on my PC start stuttering pretty badly when they aren't the active window for a while. Have to close the game and restart to resolve the stuttering issue. What exactly is causing this? 4 weeks ago:
The next time this happens look at task manager and see what % memory you have available.
Also as others have said consider replacing your HDD with an SSD, that’s the single biggest upgrade you can make to see a massive difference in quality of life with your PC.

Because after twenty years of it your body will be wrecked.
I work in IT and have multiple coworkers who actually work physically harder than I do (in their roles vs. mine) in their 60s. One is 65.
Got lots of 65 year old factory or construction workers, do ya? And I’m talking about laborers, not supervisors etc.
- Comment on Apple Fights Back Against Ruling Requiring External Payment Options 4 weeks ago:
I’m never giving epic games a dime, I can assure you if that.
This is one of those things many people seem to think will be a win but will actually suck once every app is able to charge you directly.
- Comment on Seattle Sets the Stage for Automatic Traffic Camera Expansion - The Urbanist 4 weeks ago:
All that surveillance and they let all the criminals go free anyways…so, what’s the point?
They’re not using these to catch criminals - that’d be like expecting anti-gun laws to give murderers pause. No, they use them to make people like you and me pay hundreds of dollars when the light goes from yellow to red while we’re in the intersection or close enough to it that we couldn’t safely stop without stopping literally in the middle of it all. That’s what this is about - making people like us pay. Not actual criminals who commit a crime that they would be arrested for.
- Comment on Seattle Sets the Stage for Automatic Traffic Camera Expansion - The Urbanist 4 weeks ago:
the move is a first step toward the broader deployment of those cameras, a tool that has the potential to dramatically improve traffic safety across the city if implemented well.
It’s Seattle. It will not, sadly, be implemented well.
- Comment on Seattle Sets the Stage for Automatic Traffic Camera Expansion - The Urbanist 4 weeks ago:
Agreed. I have a compromise. They can put in all the cameras they want - but absolutely cannot, upon pain of losing 50% of their total budget for a year per violation - outsource or subcontract the operations or anything akin to the operations of the system at all. Hire IT staff to run it, pay people to process the data. No you can’t use AI. Do this or fuck off, Seattle.
I will never ever forget when a red light camera came to Redmond, at the turn leading to driving through Microsoft’s campus. Can you guess what happens when you piss of a bunch of smart motivated people who have money and aren’t necessarily the kindest people? That shit got challenged and removed after about six months. I still see the stump/the concrete it was embedded when when I go to my buddy’s house, and it warms my heart literally ever. single. fucking. time.
