- Comment on Google will block sideloading of unverified Android apps starting next year 17 hours ago:
Yup my first thought was “Where is your God now?”
Google ditched “Don’t be evil” a long time ago.
- Comment on SpaceX says states should dump fiber plans, give all grant money to Starlink 1 week ago:
A subscription that somehow still manages to use surge pricing? I’m assuming that’s the next logical step.
- Comment on Mozilla warns Germany could soon declare ad blockers illegal 1 week ago:
Good thing my computer isn’t in Germany. I will stop using web browsers before I disable ad blockers.
- Comment on Should we remove XSLT from the web platform? 1 week ago:
Yes let’s be like Microsoft and delete everything we can get away with no matter how shitty it makes things.
Great job, really admirable.
- Comment on SpaceX Gets Billions From the Government. It Gives Little to Nothing Back in Taxes 1 week ago:
Duh. Tesla isn’t your friend, nor is it benevolent. Not even if you’re a shitty maga fascist.
- Comment on 1 week ago:
Fuck “lifetime subscriptions”. They’re taking a page from Tesla and I’m sure they’ll require any new owner to pay them separately should you sell the vehicle.
Simply avoid VW and any future brand that pulls this shit.
- Comment on Meta appoints anti-LGBTQ+ conspiracy theorist Robby Starbuck as AI bias advisor 1 week ago:
I just had the opportunity to purchase “AI” eyeglasses. They do recording, pictures, capture audio, supposedly let you talk to them, etc. IIRC the frames were by Ray Ban, they didn’t look awful.
They were powered by Meta. That was an instant hard pass for me.
TBF I’d probably have skipped them anyway, but if they’d been some other company I’d have at least been intrigued and given them another look.

The FBI says (or at least used to, who knows now that we’re the bad guys) to use ad blocking as a matter of cybersecurity.
I don’t care who it is, all my ad blockers stay on.
- Comment on Google Gemini struggles to write code, calls itself “a disgrace to my species” 2 weeks ago:
Weird because I’ve used it many times fr things not related to coding and it has been great.
I told it the specific model of my UPS and it let me know in no uncertain terms that no, a plug adapter wasn’t good enough, that I needed an electrician to put in a special circuit or else it would be a fire hazard.
I asked it about some medical stuff, and it gave thoughtful answers along with disclaimers and a firm directive to speak with a qualified medical professional, which was always my intention. But I appreciated those thoughtful answers.
I use co-pilot for coding. It’s pretty good. Not perfect though. It can’t even generate a valid zip file (unless they’ve fixed it in the last two weeks) but it sure does try.
- Comment on GameVault - The Identity Update 3 weeks ago:
I don’t understand the need for any such clients in the first place. Steam is used to sell you games, and install/manage/run them for you.
But unless you’re a child you shouldn’t actually need any of that. I’m perfectly capable of going to Factorio’s web site, buying it, downloading it, and running it. On any platform it supports.
That’s not a critique of this software project, I bet it’s cool. I just don’t need a middleman between me and video games. It’s the store that wants to sell me more and more and more or the publisher who wants that.
- Comment on So, Linus Torvalds is a jerk 3 weeks ago:
It’s typical. At least one Windows kernel developer is an asshole as well.
- Comment on Substack prompted a Nazi blog again 4 weeks ago:
Fucking watch me.
Nazis bad. <- note the period that makes that a full sentence.
Don’t use substack. Or Twitter.

Stop fucking using twitter. Stop posting about it, stop posting things that link to it. Delete your account like you should have already.

Meh. Google Gemini has given me great medical advice always couched carefully in “but check with your doctor.” and so on.
I was surprised too.

And adding advertising to various parts of the OS.
Hey, Microsoft: de-shitify your OS if you want it to be more popular.
- Comment on RFK Jr. Wants Every American to Be Sporting a Wearable Within Four Years 2 months ago:
RFK jr’s wants, needs, desire to continue breathing move me not at all.
He can fuck off.
If we had a science-backing and non-Nazi government who I had any belief in their ability and will to keep our data safe, this might be really cool. When I first got an Apple Watch and saw all the ways it benefits me I honestly wished everyone had one by default.
Instead, something like this would simply be used to further control people especially women since it can track monthly cycles (to my knowledge at least.)
- Comment on GOG now ask for donations when you buy games 2 months ago:

The worst was Tony Stark pulling up like the movie was a car commercial in Endgame. That was pathetic.
- Comment on What's going on with Borderlands 2? Steam is giving it for free, but the game has 23% positive recent reviews. 2 months ago:
LOL. I loved the Borderlands franchise, until Epic made their evil dog shit app store and the Borderlands devs sold out to them. Motherfuck Borderlands forever now. Thanks for the warning so I don’t accidentally reinstall any of it from Steam.
- Comment on Why does Apple make a minority of developers finance the entire App Store? 2 months ago:
See I bet you think that would make things better, don’t you?
It won’t. It will make them so much worse.
Unless the EU (government) runs it, you’re going to get the world’s shadiest App Store or Sores possible.
“Just don’t use the shady ones then.”
That’s great until:
- It’s your SO or kid accessing it and they don’t know any better.
- You just bought something (an appliance, a vehicle, an FPV drone, whatever) and it requires you to use an app, and that app is an exclusive on the shadiest App Store possible.
“That doesn’t happen on android!”
It will absolutely happen with Apple, because there’s so much money that will be up for grabs.
I hope you like signing up with all your personal data and credit card information on app stores that make Apple look like saints, because that’s where this is headed, and sadly you’ll drag me with you.
Because again this hypothetical thing you bought might be a family member buying it, so it won’t even be up to you at that point.
This is what I see happening in the future.
The way to avoid it is to get rid of app stores completely, and have users download and install apps one by one. Like that’s going to happen.

Marketing means bothering people. Two of the raspberry pi’s I own are dedicated to fighting unsolicited marketing. Marketing is anathema to me.
- Comment on This new 40TB hard drive from Seagate is just the beginning—50TB is coming fast! 2 months ago:
I have a 20TB seagate exos drive in my main pc and I hate it. Partly due to my case, but it’s noisy and does an obnoxious head reset (or whatever) every 7 minutes or so. It’s so loud.
- Comment on Forced E-Waste PCs And The Case Of Windows 11’s Trusted Platform 2 months ago:
ROFL no. I once knew someone who got offered an upgrade from whatever to Windows 10, only for it to fail half way through because their CPU was some weird corner case that the OS thought it supported but when it was time to boot… didn’t.
Also if you want to talk e-waste, look no further than Chromebooks.
Windows 11 has problems, this is hardly one of them.
