- Comment on Moving from Cloudflare tunnels for media streaming, first plan didn't work out due to double NAT 5 days ago:
I was just in you exact Situation with my jellyfin homeserver. I was using Tailscale for a while, but ran into a problem: my new server is really bad at encoding so I can only use directplay, which uses more bandwith than the tailscale relay servers can give.
The problem with tailscale is, I basically only ever use the relay servers because my home is cgnat and most of the time when I want to stream outside of home I am on mobile data with cgnat or at college (restrictive firewall).
My solution which I implemented last weekend was to buy the cheapest vps I could get from my trusted provider and harden it and install nginx proxy manager and tailscale. With that I can make a direct (no relay server) connection to my homeserver and proxy jellyfin to a piblic domain.
I am still figuring out how to secure jellyfin, but I have also seen some comments that jellyfin is secure by default and therefore ok to have exposed.
- Comment on Encrypting data on local servers? 6 days ago:
I wouldn’t rely on the thief not knowing how to read linux partitions. That very well may be the case, but the person they sell your hardware to will know better, considering they are in the market of purchasing used server hardware.
I self host and my threat model is the thief selling my server to someone who knows what to do with it, but not knowing how to extract encryption keys from the memory of a running server before unpluging it. That being said I haven’t figured out encryption yet so watching this thread.

The outer ring is made of 1-3 meter thick bedrock, but you can easily teleport through it. Just remember to bring enough material with you to make a portal to get home.
- Comment on Jellyfin is not just good... but *better* than Plex now?! 1 month ago:
I use jellyfin for every device except for my android TV. I really like it and prefer it over Plex, but it was working fine until it suddenly stopped working a few months ago. I tried updating the app, the jellyfin container, reinstalling the app and clearing data and redoing my jellyfin instance entirely. Nothing worked, everytime I try to connect to the server via the android TV i just got an error unable to connect… and the rest is cut off. Regular android app works, idk what the problem is but it has to be client side, so I just gave up and now have plex running alongside just for the TV.
If anyone has had this Problem before I would love suggestions!
