i think tik tok might be in a position where they must sell in order to continue serving content to American users:
after the TikTok CEO, Shou Chew, threw a big party for right wing influencers who helped Trump during his
bribe acceptance partyinauguration, Trump mysteriously halted the order (signed into law) to ban tik tok.from the article:
Top TikTok executives reportedly rubbed shoulders with American tech leaders and handed out business cards at an elite pre-inauguration donor event on Sunday featuring members of the Trump administration, as the app’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain.
Tiktok executives including CEO Shou Chew and vice president Michael Beckerman were reportedly on hand at the event, which President Donald and First Lady Melania Trump hosted at the National Building Museum in Washington. They joined a reported guestlist including Vice President JD Vance, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and conservative megadonor Miriam Adelson.
geeze, it’s almost like the tech oligarchs told Trump to pause the ban until they could negotiate a way to profit more from acquisition of TikTok (or a newly created US based subsidiary) than by outright banning users access to it, cold turkey.

this will be really useful when the government needs to flush out refugees, dissidents and resistance members. no more using darkness to hide from the automated kill bots and private security patrols, purging the countryside will be so much easier without having to fiddle with pesky night vision optics!

- Comment on Young Americans lose trust in the state 5 weeks ago:
During the 2008 political primary season, it sought to run three television advertisements to promote its political documentary Hillary: The Movie, a film that was critical of Hillary Clinton
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC
I was being a little tongue in cheek about Hillary’s role, mostly speaking to the fact that her desire to seek power endlessly and run for president against Obama in '08, is what led to the creation of the eponymous film was the basis for Citizens United filing suit in court. it might have happened anyway, eventually, but it’s not widely appreciated how much harm she and the DNC have done to our political culture, including losing to Trump so spectacularly in '16.
every nationally Democrat has said they’re opposed to Citizens United… none of them have actually done anything to accomplish overturning it. actions speak louder than words. same with Roe v Wade, they had decades to codify it and failed.
my whole point is not about what they oppose or support, it’s that they’re ineffectual in either direction. they routinely fail at shaking up the system and manipulating the courts in favor of the 99% of Americans who they claim to support. still better than GOP by miles and miles, but nowhere near adequate as a party.
- Comment on Young Americans lose trust in the state 5 weeks ago:
John McCain is more responsible for the bill that gave us Citizens United than the DNC (which doesn’t draft legislation, they’re just
bribe launderersfundraisers for pro-corporate/pro-Israel lobbies). they’re also responsible for crafting the immensely unpopular platform, such as killing single payer healthcare , a half senile Biden campaign, sabotaged the progressives and Bernie (twice), and gave us fucktards Schumer and Pelosi who are among the most ineffectual hated politicians in America.please stop trolling this “vote for DNC to defeat fascism” nonsense. THEY HAD 8 YEARS TO PREPARE A TACTICAL RESPONSE TO TRUMPISM AND YET HERE WE ARE.

Rich people outbid regular folks for real resources, taking away any chance at intergenerational wealth building. thep only (legal) answer at the moment is taxation of the rich.
Gary Stevenson has some worthwhile insights on what we can do and how to convince working class people that the rich must be stopped or else your kids and grandkids will all be homeless renters.

Will policymakers continue to ignore the signs and force the planet to face the devastating consequences?
yes. yes they will.
my only hope is rapid socioeconomic collapse caused by short-sighted fascist mismanagement, leading to spiraling declines in life expectancy (and therefore drastically lower global population and consumption levels). that’s probably overly optimistic though.

- Comment on What's the best way for Elon to remove the parasite class? 🤔 1 month ago:
this is a brilliant observation honestly. every accusation or criticism levied against the fascists gets reversed in a “I know you are but what am?” sneer. it works for many reasons, and it’s part of the right wing playbook.
- accused of nepotism? flip it around and prosecute Hunter.
- accused of Jan 6 violence? bring up the George Floyd riots or antifa.
- accused of sexual scandal? point out Bill Clinton’s many accusers and Bidens hair sniffing.
- greed? bring up Pelosi insider trading.
- coercing abortion? they point to vaccines/mask mandates. obviously none are equivalent in scale or scope, but the have truthiness to them at first glance. and just as importantly, like in your purse thief example, they redirect attention and create doubt… just long enough to avoid getting caught or face the wrath of the crowd.
it works, partly because the so-called opposition party in America is actually kind of a piece of shit and has been for generations. Dems hate the extreme consequences of capitalism, but love capitalism (and benefit from it). so they ultimately can’t condemn it or offer long term solutions to the problems it creates. conservatives at least offer simpler solutions which all boil down to “hate who you’re told” and “obey your God King and you’ll someday be rewarded”.

threats to federal workers across the entire government - ‘you have 10 days to turn in your colleagues or else you’re fired’ - went out January 23rd. Remote workers were threatened with firings the day or so after. people currently being hired but not yet finalized were given notice the same week, and people hired but on probationary status (doesn’t mean what youre thinking it’s just a designation for people in good standing who haven’t secured permanent position) - were told to fuck right off the week of January 23rd.
the amount of chaos and fear generated in the first week alone was staggering. but you’re right, the actual FIRINGS took a couple more days. the threats came IMMEDIATELY.
not saying it caused the crash entirely, but there’s reasonable evidence the administration at least contributed to the stress ATCs already experience.
better question is, why the fuck should military helicopters be doing exercises right the fuck beneath flight paths of commercial airlines? there’s literally thousands of military bases where they can pRaCTiCe and do military shit. gtfo civilian air space, noobs.

idk, I don’t think it will be as swift as some imagine/want. this will be a long road ahead. the wealthiest 10-20% aren’t going to vanish overnight because food stamps got scaled back or national parks sold off to real estate developer or groceries become more expensive.
total collapse is good to take a few generations. we should plan accordingly and start building micro communities decoupled from capitalism and moderately self sufficient within a small region. small enclaves of survivors may have a chance at a life less destitute.

yep. we all definitely need breaks. i take long breaks every few months or in the winter when seasonal depression kicks in.
but this is a critical junction for global history. class warfare has escalated and accelerated, and the vast vast majority of us are being actively oppressed through the dismantling of economic and social welfare programs.
my family stands to lose too much for me to be burying my head in the sand right now.
some aren’t ready or able or willing to do the work of preparing a response. others have no choice but to pay attention because their family’s future literally depend on knowing whether today is the day they “come for you” and all this (bwamp bwamp) news actually reaches your doorstep.
so while people are arguing anime fandoms and who wins The Big Game, I’ll be trying to understand my enemy, encourage my allies, and decide what an appropriate response looks like (in real life) using the latest information i have available.

i don’t wonder that. let the normies have their Destiny 2 and PublicFreakout and fantasy sports communities elsewhere. seeing comment section after section on Reddit filled to the brim with “I’m so funny!” unserious one liners was obnoxious. people talking about GoThrones fandom and RC cars while inequality skyrockets or the rich dismantle every federal govt program that benefit 99% of the population is not a good thing to yearn for. the founders-effect dominance from a handful of narrow ideologically centrists is not something we need more of.

but but it’s a secret and um, secrets are bad! trust me bro! bro?*
it’s like, no shit the government is corrupt. and no shit, the US squanders taxpayer money abroad on endless proxy wars perpetuated intentionally by international arms suppliers for the benefit of oligarchs and tyrants (elected or otherwise).
but conservatives just hear “Trump mad at Ukraine now” and fall in line like gormless toadies, not understanding that he and Putin are just the latest wave of despotic power brokers bilking the citizenry for personal gain.
the players change, but the game doesn’t. conservatives obsess and which color shirt the guy who robs them is wearing, and ignore cries to stop supporting thieves.
