I don’t know why you’ve gotten downvoted up and down this thread. People seem oblivious to the reality of risks and the imperfection of trusting people in the aggregate.

I’m paying Microsoft $9 a month for something and I can’t find out what and can’t cancel it. I’m going to have to nuke my credit card to get it to stop and I don’t even know if that’ll work.
- Comment on What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts? 3 weeks ago:
Yep for sure. I joined Lemmy long enough ago (other burner account) great posts like these would only have 25 responses or so. Seeing these quality ones hit hundreds of responses is encouraging.

I just want to comment that this is one of the most helpful and full of good info posts I’ve seen on Lemmy in a long while.

The left knew the science, and shouts it all the time. Just like they knew all the time that the president’s ability to affect inflation was limited too, and shouted that all the time as well to no avail. When the right doesn’t listen to logic, they get made fun of with the bare facts.

Chinese gotta use state-approved and controlled mainstream apps and media, or access foreign stuff via VPN. Homegrown, off the grid stuff like Lemmy only gets by as long as it’s obscure.
If it’s big enough and ornery (includes political content, rather than say just all cooking recipes and form) it’s liable to be blocked.

Here’s another for your list:
- Use a VPN? Blocked from accessing it. (I try to get info from internet searches sometimes and they block me, I have to use a VPN because am in China.)
