They’re gonna turn into dicks about it.
Even if this was started for a good reason it would turn to shit eventually. But as a big company, this was done purely to make money off of FOMO.
Only preservation this is about is preservation of future profit.

And this is another reason why I pirate so many games.
They made their money on the hype when the games were released way back. Make them available and people will buy them instead of pirating. But they’d rather lock things away to cause FOMO like you said. They keep thinking about short-term profit rather than long-term steady income.
This has nothing to do with preservation.
- Comment on GenAI website goes dark after explicit fakes exposed 1 week ago:
I also don’t agree with the killer games thing, but humans are very adaptable as a species.
Normally that’s a good thing, but in a case like this exposure to something shocking or upsetting can make it less shocking or upsetting over time (obviously not in every case). So, if AI is being used for something like this and being reported on isn’t it possible that people might slowly get desensitized to it over time?
- Comment on GenAI website goes dark after explicit fakes exposed 1 week ago:
That’s fair, but I still think it shouldn’t be accepted or allowed.
- Comment on GenAI website goes dark after explicit fakes exposed 1 week ago:
Fair enough. I still think it shouldn’t be allowed though.
- Comment on GenAI website goes dark after explicit fakes exposed 1 week ago:
Yes, but how is the AI making the images or videos? It has to be trained on SOMETHING.
So, regardless of direct harm or not, harm is done at some point in the process and it needs to be stopped before it slips and gets worse because people “get used to” it.
- Comment on Microsoft is redesigning the Windows BSOD and it might change to black 1 week ago:
I don’t care what colour the screen is. Just make the damn error message useful. Give me something I can use to start my troubleshooting instead of this uwu sad face bullshit we’ve had since Win 8.
Hell, keep your little sad face. But meet me halfway and give me a usable error code or message.

This is really cool.
Takes some getting used to when you’re used to all of the links and other garbage in and around articles, but I’m sure anyone could learn to love this.

They’ve accomplished nothing except further pissing off some of their most competent user base.
I don’t think they’ve cared about the competent users for a very long time. They only want the users who click

without reading or thinking. - Comment on I've tried nearly every browser out there and these are my top 6 (none are Chrome) 3 weeks ago:
I only know the DNS blocking from them.

DNS blocking doesn’t work for everything. Ad blocking extensions are the only way to block YouTube ads in your browser as far as I know.

Well, that’s not surprising to see. Thanks for the clarification.

Would not be surprised at all. Just want people to know about that instead of still being mad about some bullshit someone spewed years ago.

This was apparently never an official statement. It was someone in an interview that misspoke.

The average user just doesn’t learn from this shit because they don’t know.

Sounds like a dream job if it wasn’t Fox or similar.

I’d honestly rather Fox focus on this than their usual conservative mouthbreathing.

You see stuff like this a lot with Chinese videos. I recently saw an electric supercar type vehicle from them jump potholes automatically at high speed as if it was nothing. Just keeps driving with zero wobble or death after landing.

Individual people aren’t going to make any difference unless they’re carrying HDs full of training data around with them.
Yes, but most people don’t know that. Any excuse to make another big player look bad.
Most countries would grab onto something like this for some free propaganda.
