- Comment on Former BioWare lead writer reads the runes on EA-Saudi deal and speculates that 'guns and football' are in, 'gay stuff' is out, and the venerable RPG studio may be for the chop 1 week ago:
I know adults who boost their ego with lootboxes. Beating the peasants by spending money that others use for groceries is how they feel superior.
- Comment on Opinions on Jurassic Park as a Zoo 1 week ago:
I second this. There are letters explaining interesting facts of paleontology by the consultant. This is made out of love.
- Comment on So...how the fuck do I trust *anything*? 1 week ago:
You seem to have an inherent trust in scientific consensus. Some actors are also trying to weaken this and misinformation is rampant. Some figures seem to support far right ideas until they get put into perspective by people who are well informed on issues. These people rarely get enough funding, attention or time.
I think one of the most important ideas is to spend your attention on things that you can influence for the better. That often means struggling to accept that our impact is limited but worthwhile.
- Comment on Well then 2 weeks ago:
LLM are not the only way and more people need to realise that. There are good uses for LLMs but most use cases want different ML approaches especially when we want numbers.
- Comment on ‘I’m a modern-day luddite’: Meet the students who don’t use laptops 2 weeks ago:
You can also overdo that. Stay healthy and don’t stress your body too much. Slow and steady wins the race.
- Comment on Despite cutting the gags, Borderlands 4's PC specs say it still needs 100GB of SSD space 4 weeks ago:
It has to come with a steep increase in performance. As someone who does not care for realistic graphics I could live without it.
- Comment on Emma Watson banned from driving for speeding 2 months ago:
This is different in Germany but we learn about tolerance in driving school. Your speedometer can be wrong by about 10% and speed guns can also have errors. A good system accounts for unintentional speeding.
- Comment on Hot spaceships in your Lemmy instance 4 months ago:
We should support our local space programs and their civil programs. Respect for space people everywhere.
- Comment on Are standing seats on airliners actually going to be a thing? 4 months ago:
The standing seats op is talking about passed safety test. They include back support and belts.
- Comment on Dying from sleep deprivation is like dying from holding your breath. You'd fall unconscious eventually, rectifying the threat. 4 months ago:
From what I’ve heard it is actually hard to fall asleep after an extended time of being awake. I doubt the one mechanism discussed here is enough to explain all that is going on while sleep deprived.
- Comment on France to ban students from keeping smartphones in schools 5 months ago:
I think it is fine but we also need lessons to properly interact with the technology. Scams, fraud, disinformation and checking sources were handled very abstractly at best and archaic at worst.
- Comment on We are so cooked 6 months ago:
Without looking at data it could also mean “beginning 8 months ago we noticed a downwards trend of bees compared to the prior year(s) that culminates to an 80% decline at the time of writing.”
- Comment on ‘Audible enclaves’ could enable private listening without headphones. 6 months ago:
I’d say so yeah. I switched between headphones a lot recently and they don’t stand out. All headphones have their own sound anyway. I just embrace what they highlight and get to know my favourite songs again.
- Comment on ‘Audible enclaves’ could enable private listening without headphones. 6 months ago:
I’ve found that bone conducting headphones work well for this. They are even secure enough for running and climbing.
- Comment on Split Fiction Developer Already Started Working On Its Next Title, Calls It An "Exciting Thing" 6 months ago:
“A way out” is by the same devs and also pretty cheap. They had some good parts in there already but the shift to stylized characters definitely was the right call. A lot of yellow paint and weird interactions in the first one but still very enjoyable.
- Comment on Corporate greed is killing RuneScape. What do people play instead? 1 year ago:
There is also iron mode which helps to ignore bots. Yes they can still steal your ore deposit but there are enough worlds to go to.
- Comment on Altech’s sodium chloride solid state battery exceeds expectations 1 year ago:
The flip side to that is great though. Imagine a few houses per street supplying batteries for more draining activities in a connected neighborhood.
