- Comment on Amazon is cracking down on illegal streaming on its Fire TV Stick 1 hour ago:
Looks like I left Fire Sticks just in time. They say they are going to block apps that allow piracy. So are they going to block their own shitty web browser?

I use the synapse container, I followed the docs on matrix.org.
As far as a revere proxy I use the SWAG container from linuxserver. My matrix instance isnt exposed to the internet or federated but it used to be. When it was exposed I was using fail2ban to ban exploit attempts but if I were to set it up again I’d probably use crowdsec instead. They are both built into SWAG.

I have a torrent client in a docker container thats hooked up to it. Makes it so its not possible for your real IP to leak. If the VPN disconnects the torrent container loses internet.
- Comment on 2 weeks ago:
I run it in docker and an update has never caused issues. Been about 3 years.
- Comment on Microsoft's decision to axe Windows 10 is driving Apple PC sales growth — users buy Macs instead of AI PCs despite Microsoft’s push for Copilot+ PCs 2 weeks ago:

Each user has a subdirectory, I dont see a reason you couldn’t symlink them so they actually reside on different drives.

It definitely was awesome if you were someone who gets bored of games easily and moves on. I think I get a high from the whole new game thing then it dissipates after a few hours.
- Comment on Those who don't use dashboards, how are you managing your services? 1 month ago:
I just simply dont monitor most things. I do have a few things such as low disk space and failed backups. They are just simple shell scripts that send me an ntfy message when there is a problem.
- Comment on What is the current state of Matrix? 2 months ago:
My experience is the same as yoirs, but I think the people complaining are the ones who are federated and are in large communities. Matrix apparently doesnt handle large rooms very well.
- Comment on Why I Ditched Spotify, and How I Set Up My Own Music Stack 2 months ago:
Sure I can see that.
My wife and I have 3 small children, full time jobs, and no daycare. I can definitely say our life is not frictionless. I dont think there is anything wrong with wanting some things to be easy, and I dont blame her for not wanting to switch when I dont have something better.
- Comment on Why I Ditched Spotify, and How I Set Up My Own Music Stack 2 months ago:
I didn’t say i needed it personally, I need it if I’m going to get my family members to drop Spotify for my service.
- Comment on Why I Ditched Spotify, and How I Set Up My Own Music Stack 2 months ago:
But I need to get those recommendations to automatically populate into playlist in my music app so its all in one place. Thats the challenge. Providing a close to as good service as Spotify.
- Comment on Why I Ditched Spotify, and How I Set Up My Own Music Stack 2 months ago:
My issue is discovery. I’ll take a look at what they’ve done here, but ive never been able to implement a reliable discovery process into my workflow. I still use local music, but my wife is not going to switch until I get at least some reliable and effective discovery built.

My wife is one of those people and I beg her over and over to just let me host her music.
- Comment on Plex server patching required 2 months ago:
Anecdote but ive been hosting Plex for family members for 10+ years. I tried the Jellyfin switch. Compared to Plex the Jellyfin apps are pretty bad, and I had a ton of performance problems with the remote streaming as well. Its just not ready for that use case. Family members begged me to go back to Plex.
My family at home and myself, we are using Jellyfin currently. It works OK for home use but there are days I want to go back to Plex. Its just a more polished experience.

The Amazfit Active 2 gets 10 days of battery life. Works perfectly with gadgetbridge. Made a junk account, retrieved the token and nuked their junk app from orbit.

That would only be if you use their cloudflare tunnel feature

Thats interesting because I feel the opposite. I feel like giluys that hit their wives are also less likely your go down on them.
I honestly don’t understand why goes dont like it. Its kinda fun so long as shes clean.

Did they fix harwarde decoding on the Konstakang build? Last I tried 4k content was unplayable.

The kinect was near useless but I had fun with it. At one point I set it up to control Kodi with hand gestures. It was clunky but kinda cool. Good times.

It boggles my mind that they aren’t just packaging up old games into an exe and posting them one by one on Steam. Its free money.

While I appreciate it means its finally coming to Steam, I’m sad this mean no 2 and 3
- Comment on Texas goes after toothpaste in escalating fight over fluoride 6 months ago:
Short version is conservatives in America hate being told what to do and love telling others what to do. The government putting fluoride in the water is them being told by the government what to do.

I just wish the Dev would come up with a way to allow me to buy it without the play store.
- Comment on Optimal Plex Settings for Privacy-Conscious Users 7 months ago:
Agreed it all really just depends on what functionality is important to you. If it was just me and my wife using it I’d absolutely be using Jellyfin. But between grandparents and small children using mine, I got so many complaints I had to turn Plex back on after a week.
- Comment on Do I really need a firewall for my server? 7 months ago:
Interesting, I haven’t noticed anything, in fact since I switched everything has felt faster. And I’m constantly sending large files to devices on other VLANs.
- Comment on Do I really need a firewall for my server? 7 months ago:
Mainly for security reasons. Both servers have some limited exposure to the internet. Are you saying doing it that way has performance implications? I haven’t noticed any problems its all fast just like before when everything was on the same LAN
