- Comment on Microsoft's decision to axe Windows 10 is driving Apple PC sales growth — users buy Macs instead of AI PCs despite Microsoft’s push for Copilot+ PCs 2 days ago:
Yeah, I think that apple isn’t as pushy as Microsoft (they can get stubborn sometimes) when it comes to AI, not to mention that apple intelligence feels like a response to the market more than something they actually wanted (mostly due the fact it feels half-backed and rushed)
Also they haven’t had many privacy scandals as Microsoft (as far as I can remember, the Siri was the only one in modern times, besides some zero exploits in the wild)

You can clearly identify when that’s happening; with LLMs, it’s often uncertain unless you’re an expert in the field or at least knowledgeable.

Wouldn’t that make reality crash? Unless the genie can spawn all the electrons at once, but in that case you’d be talking to god.

classifier model which labels the ads
Not exactly my idea, I read about it somewhere when news about YT supposedly serving server-side ads started to spread.
You could record the video several times and check for differences between streams and then cut them off, might be more resource intensive in network and storage, but I think it’s still cheaper than a neural network.

I remember binge watching the whole thing, the ”wolf” was kinda awkward, and while It wasn’t unwatchable it sometimes gave me a cringy feeling. Might need to watch it again to confirm. Anyone else?

- Comment on Microsoft gives up on users experiencing problems updating their Windows 11 machines. Now recommends a "manual correction" 8 months ago:
I don’t mean to say that you’re completely wrong in your reasoning, but grammatically speaking, we use have + verb in past participle which we call present perfect no matter what verb is used.
In this case, you’re talking about something you’ve experienced, so the correct way would be “I’ve run” (as the past participle of run is run).
If you’d like to take a detailed look at it, here you have: Present Perfect - British Council and Using “have ran” or “have run”.
Btw, It’s completely normal to make mistakes! We’re all human, and part of being human is learning and growing from our errors.

Name…absolutely does not check out.
Uhh, oh, fair enough (゚∀゚)
Saliently enough, have you managed to try DeepSeek, or even get it set up locally?
Yeah, I’ve successfully run the cut down version of deepseek-r1 through Ollama. The model itself is the 7b (I’m VRAM limited to 8GB). I used an M1 Mac Mini to run it, in terms of performance, is fast and the quality of the generated content is okay.
Depending on your hardware and SO, you will or not be able to get to run a LLM locally with reasonable speed. You might want to check the GPU support for Ollama. You don’t need a GPU as it can run on the CPU, but it’ll certainly be slower.
