I think this just comes down to human nature. Give people (engineers, execs) a metric that looks like a good proxy for performance and they will overcommit on that metric as it is a safer bet than thinking outside the box. I think the incremental improvements in deep learning with all those benchmarks are a similar situation.

That’s why we need rules and regulation around gatekeeper platforms like iOS and android. If both demand 30% there is no choice not to pay in certain circumstances.
- Comment on Autofocusing Smart Glasses With Eye Tracking Tech Could Make Bifocals Obsolete 4 weeks ago:
I understand your sentiment as I am annoyed by similar issues. But the wireless in ear headphones also changed a lot how we use them. I guess it’s similar for glasses. People will appreciate the auto focus but will inevitably complain if batteries run out or glasses malfunction.

How would you handle LFS in this setup?
- Comment on [question] Help me access my local homeserver using a public domain name 4 months ago:
Why do you need a domain on an internet facing dns if you can just define it with your local dns? Unless you want to access your services via internet, in which case you would need a public ip.

Still want to try rust but in my field it’s just not established enough unfortunately. But I love the idea of the language.

Just wanted to say something similar. Any low latency high frequency code is written in c++, c or assembler. And that’s engineers work usually.

Think about power consumption of your hardware. If it is supposed to run 24/7 this can add up over a year. The money could be invested in power efficient hardware instead. There are calculators online
- Comment on Split Keyboards Are Superior And The Reason I’m The Writer I Am Today. 10 months ago:
I find the topic interesting and want to both experiment with the ortholinear and split concepts. But the main thing holding me back is the same reason I am using zsh and not fish: compatibility. I don’t want to confuse myself with two ways of typing when I need to work on another pc and I will not be using a split keyboard on my laptop for example.
