- Comment on What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from? 2 months ago:
Definitely this. It seems MVs with a leveling system either aren’t popular, or are too hard to balance. Plus there’s the giant inventory of weapons and gear that would probably be too time-consuming to create for most game devs.
- Comment on How can I get a screw like this out? 2 months ago:
Maybe try using a file to make flat sides on the outside of the head so you can use a wrench on it? Not sure if that would be better or worse than the Dremel/slot idea. (You would risk scratching the surface of the object it’s on.)

There’s always 5D Optical Data Storage, which might store data in glass for billions of years. (It’s not really 5D; it’s composed of discrete nanostructures which have five attributes.)

- Comment on What knot(s) should I use to secure this? 3 months ago:
I think I made an unclear comment, lol. I actually meant it in a good way. It looks like a strong knot that holds up until it’s time to take it apart, in which case it would be somewhar easier than a bowline.

Looks easier to undo than a bowline.
- Comment on How much salt water to kill a tree? 3 months ago:
Here’s a story for you: Poisoned trees gave a wealthy couple in Maine a killer ocean view. Residents wonder, at what cost?
TL;DR: it’s not worth it.

The worst part to me is the shadowbanning. It’s easy enough to tell if you’re shadowbanned (check subs or comment threads when signed out and in private mode to see if your stuff shows up), but you can’t see comments from other people who are shadowbanned. I want to see all points of view. And after the API changes, the sites for viewing removed or hidden comments stopped working :|

One could do some photogrammetry and then analyze the 3d mesh. It only requires taking multiple photos from different angles. Might even be able to get something going from online photos, provided you match the time of day for the entire set…

Ah, the fun of copying the Mandelbrot code from the book, running the program, and waiting only 16 hours for the image to finish. Fun times!

Thanks a lot for the recommendations! Lots of interesting things here, and I’ll be diving in very soon.
Mohamed Shawky goes by ‘chusss’ on YouTube. here’s one I like: m.youtube.com/watch?v=h-x0x41dsfM
Yeah, I’ve heard of Nightwish. Not my favorite, but last time I went looking I was trying to find pieces closer to Epica’s Omega album… and not even Epics older work was what I was looking for…

At least they provided this tidbit:
Engineers also discovered, as they plowed past the first 14,800 feet (4,511 meters), that the rock had much more porosity and permeability. That, paired with the extremely high temperatures, made the rock behave more like a plastic than a solid, rendering drilling virtually impossible.

Just going to point out that alcohol is literally a poison people drink to make them feel good.
It starts that way, but quickly turns on you. Pretty soon you’re pissed at everything for no good reason, you’re tired but have enough energy for angry outbursts, and your world just shrinks and shrinks along with your brain. Horrible drug. Maybe some people can handle having a drink regularly, but I sure can’t ':S

I do like symphonic metal, and that’s a great song… it gave me goosebumps. I’ll be sure to check out more of Blind Guardian’s work. Any other suggestions are welcome! Maybe stuff similar to Epica’s Omega album, and instrumental pieces similar to Essence of Datum, Mohamed Shawky, Rivers of Nihil, & Naxatras, if you’ve got the time :D

The Ys series ost, especially the PSP titles. Nice mix of metal and violin.
Hollow Night. The City of Tears track in particular.
Any covers made by Orchestral Fantasy on YouTube. He focuses mainly on classic 16-bit titles and pretty much nails each one.

On a related note, I suspect there would’ve been more protests and revolution attempts than we’ve heard about, had the state not already held a monopoly on surveillance, psychology and violence. It’s a trivial matter for an entity possessing all three of those things to break up an emerging protest or revolution that threatens its power.

Cool! I made one once out of plastic material from a shampoo bottle and baling wire staples, but it didn’t look this nice (plus, it had pokey corners).
- Comment on Windows 11 is nagging users to try OneDrive to "fully backup" your PC 3 months ago:
Oh, I see. For some reason I took ‘life critical’ to mean any program one keeps installed and ‘can’t do without’ ;)
I think Space Engineers is on my list, and it looks like my PC just barely meets the requirements. As for compatiblity, I can always keep Windows 10 around for certain things.
I don’t play anything online either. Last game I tried online was Minecraft, and I just couldn’t deal with the griefers. Some asshats found a way into my area and stole/killed all my cows >:( (Or I was overbreeding and the mods removed them, idk.)

I don’t mind learning and using the terminal. From what I hear, it can be used to automate things more easily than on Windows and I’m all for it, as long as it’s not needed for everyday tasks.
I think when I eventually (soon, I hope) get my PC hooked up where I’m at I’ll try either Pop!_OS or Mint.
Thanks for the feedback~

That sounds promising. I’ve heard good things about Pop!_OS. Which game has issues, if I might ask?
I try to avoid web-based apps when I can. For instance, there is a supposedly great photo editor that’s only available via web browser. I’d hate to become dependent on it and then lose access due to an internet outage, or something.

It’s an AMD R9 380 2GB, so kind of old. (In fact, it’s factory overclocked, so that might be the source of the crashes.)
I’ll probably just buy a new storage drive so I don’t have to worry about Linux and Windows existing on the same one. It’s going to be great, having more control over the OS. I bet things will even be faster overall, due to the relative lack of bloat.

Do all distros have the same compatibility with video cards and software? I want something that’ll run Blender, Krita, Gimp, etc., and support my Wacom tablet. And run my favorite games, of course. Lots of people say Mint is good for newbies jumping ship. I don’t mind learning a new environment and running console commands from time-to-time.

I think Windows 10 will be the last version I use. As time goes on, Linux seems more and more like a viable option, and I’ll be glad to have control over my PC for once. And who knows, maybe I will no longer have the mysterious freezing issue that’s been plaguing me for years…
