- Comment on Baby boomers want to axe property taxes. Millennials and Gen Z would pay for it. 3 days ago:
unpopular opinion:
I agree with them… kinda.
if you live in your house, that’s your home and you should not pay another rent based on its price.using price of home for taxes causes every government official from mayor up to at best not really care if houses prices go up or actually fight policies that lower it.
I see a lot of people here that advocate for property taxes as a progressive tax but I don’t see it that way at all.my take is government should tax empty houses and rents for landlords.
it is a mistake to follow Neo-liberal thinking of “you are the landlord of you own home” which is prevalent in financial world to make homes investment assets and count rent as GDP which make government be happy that number go up.
I hear here that “boomers” like high price of houses so they “deserve” punishment of high property taxes.
but if you live you own home and don’t make money of it, you don’t get any positive from house prices going up. most “news” about someone selling their house for a lot of money and going into smaller house is just them needing that money for healthcare and living, not investment.and this mentality makes a self-fulfilling situation that prevent from actual affordability of houses.
fight for high taxes on empty houses and rents. don’t make people living in their own homes renters of government.

my unpopular opinion was that this is very near sound money in islam (gold or silver) until I saw the interest part which is forbidden in islam.

tt-rss and frehsrss are two different self-hosted apps. are you sure using that app doesnt mess with freshrss?
- Comment on In Praise of RSS and Controlled Feeds of Information 1 month ago:
it works with freshrss self hosted?
- Comment on In Praise of RSS and Controlled Feeds of Information 1 month ago:
I remember that extension but I didn’t user it because it didn’t cleanup after it self (old not needed images stayed in cache).
what is “your phone”? you mean an app? I know about text caching (I don’t know if frehsrss has an option to get original page for RSSs that has just a simple text that redirects to full page), but even inoreader that had that (if i remember correctly) didn’t have image caching.
- Comment on In Praise of RSS and Controlled Feeds of Information 1 month ago:
freshrss doesn’t cache images. how do you do it offline?

per watt?
- Comment on Bye Intel, hi AMD! I’m done after 2 dead Intels 2 months ago:
I get the intel lower power when not doing stuff (wish amd had high/low config for cores too) but what I mean was, in laptop cpus that are not on battery (just connected to power) does amd do more with the same power usage?
if the comparation can not be done with the same gen cpus from two companies, then maybe a similar power usage cpu from amd and one from intel (laptop of course), do they for example have similar geekbench benchmark results? (for lack of better tool)
so what I am asking is I dont care that is the same gen amd and intel laptop cpu with both connected to socket power, if amd is better. I want to know if for the same power usage (not idling but working) amd is better or not.

care to explain a bit more?
- Comment on Bye Intel, hi AMD! I’m done after 2 dead Intels 2 months ago:
care to explain that last part?
for example if I want to by a new laptop right now, do I buy intel? because it has better power usage? is that only idle and/or lower usage power? what about if I just plus the laptop to power socket always (like a simple desktop), then amd is better with respect to performance per watt?

maybe that was the remastering process issues. also maybe 4k movies are not actually 4ks and are AI upscalers from actual 2k masters.

My post was not supposed to be that TikTok specifically is bad. my point was every platform (that uses attention as money generator) would eventually be some kind of short videos with emulate pov of user (vertical interface instead of TV horizontal interface) that encourage “engagements”

I never said it was talking out of his ass.
propaganda does not mean lies.
when BBC persian (media arm of government of England under command of foreign minister) says something about my country (Iran) it doesnt have to lie to spread propaganda.
you can see it in healines.
when Iranian say some thing the source is before the info and it usually say something like: Iranians claim that “usa attacked them”
when jewish Isis kills Palestinians and then claim that they are khamas members, then BBC title will be : “hamas members killed in missle attacks , israel claims.”
you don’t have to lie to deceive people.

btw okular has way more options that I like. like color palettes. but paper is way faster for browsing.
- Comment on 3 months ago:
but that would be rude. I just wanted to promote an app that I quite like (it is faster than the kde app I used)
- Comment on 3 months ago:
what you mean?
the new paper app is faster and that is from someone who usually hates gnome apps because of lack of setting option. (even this app has that issue with gnome-brain UI that put the night mode on the left side sidebar option removed from all other options that are on the right side)
I understand the motivation behind people that think rust is a good language to write software in as it has better memory safety but I don’t think everythink needs to get rusted.
but I understand even less the people that make fun of passionate people that like rust and like safer software.
at first the meme was rust is a cult. now the meme is those who made fun of them are a meme.
example: techrights.org/…/Sami_Tikkanen_Explains_on_Rust_L…
I read this article with the expectation that it was a fair pro-con examination. and it had some bit that was very good point (like the discord part) but the theme of the article was just rust is bad because I say rust people are pod people.
this is not a good technical discussion.
and I ,as a non-programmer that have used linux for that last 20 years and like to follow software trends, like that rust is making a large part of security problems of apps be less severe.
I don’t that make me a cult member.

I used to use okular but now use the new flathub.org/apps/org.gnome.Papers which seems to be faster. maybe because it written in rust?
