The Kindle app needs to be a specific version, and sadly the one needed for MacOS to grab the by Calibre dedrm-able files from Kindle doesn’t work anymore.

I’ve bought myself a Boox Go Color 7. I love that one, even though it’s twice as expensive as a Kobo or Kindle.
- Comment on Kindle Is Making It Harder to Switch to Rival eReader Brands. 3 days ago:
No, the files are mostly owned by the publisher. That’s why you sometimes have stories where books disappear from Kindles because the rights holders revoke Amazon’s license to sell their books. It’s what happened with one version of Orwell’s 1984, ironically.
It’s ridiculous, if you ask me, but that’s the reality with Broken By Design DRM ebooks.
That’s why it’s prudent for any buyers of ebooks to download them as soon as you can, and put them in a library like “Calibre”, that way, even if Amazon loses their license to sell those publishers books, you still have access to the ebooks you bought with your money.
And that’s why it’s bad that Amazon is removing the option to download the files yourself. And why I recommend people to take their business and wallets elsewhere! Stop giving Bezos your money. - Comment on Kindle Is Making It Harder to Switch to Rival eReader Brands. 3 days ago:
According to them you only have a license to those ebooks.

Or go for the Kobo, which is similarly priced as the Kindle. The Kobo Clara Colour is £150

I’m really glad that I downloaded my entire Kindle library a month ago, and converted it all to either CBZ or Epub.
Fuck Bezos.
One tip for the audiobook-fans: Download your Audible books while you still can. It’s only a matter of time before Bezos locks those downloads too. Libation will help liberate your library into DRM-free files.

What you call “wrong”, I would call “different”.
It’s not wrong to be gay, it’s not wrong to be trans, it’s not wrong to be ace.
It’s different to be gay, trans or ace.

To me that kind of logic doesn’t fly and is your statement one of ignorance.
For instance, I’m asexual, in that I’m really not interested in sex, nor in procreation. The whole idea of sex (and I have had sex in the past) makes me physically feel disgusting and disgusted. You would probably call that a mental disorder too then. But it isn’t.
It’s still just a part of the human experience. My brain is as biologically normal as yours. We all just experience the world in different ways.
- Comment on [deleted] 4 days ago:
Except, the DSM-5, the main authority on this, specifically says it’s not a mental disorder, just like how being gay isn’t a mental disorder anymore since DSM-4.
You can disagree, but that’s just as stupid as disagreeing with fire being hot. It’s just reality-denialism on your part.

The community as it is right now, feels like the early days of Reddit and Slashdot. I really don’t mind that slight speed bump.
- Comment on Bad UX is keeping the majority of people away from Lemmy 1 week ago:
I respectfully disagree. Reddit went downhill and significantly more difficult to manage/moderate when the masses joined.
If people aren’t willing to invest a bit of time to understand how Lemmy works (and it’s really not that difficult to understand), then I don’t think Lemmy is a good fit for them.

It was the default for a very long time. Reddit changed that because it prevented them from monetizing the site that easily. And the admins seemed to dislike what RES could do with the old Reddit look.

After reading that essay I feel a lot more queasy about using Kagi. It’s just that I really despise ads, but I’m willing to put up with it, if the search engine company is more ethical. For the moment I’ve downgraded my account from 10 to 5 bucks a month. I wasn’t using any of the AI features anyway.

Yes, that’s a positive pregnancy test. Any second line visible means it’s positive. But best do another test from another brand to be doubly sure.
