Can’t you just do a new setup? I just installed the seerr container on my unraid server and it took just a couple of minutes. Or am I missing something?

They tend to get more. Teenagers won’t do chores for shit though, lol. Teens will do whatever they want for 24h straight, then sleep for 16 hours.

Teenagers.

You can still go with unraid and buy more, smaller drives. Buy used SAS drives and an HBA. I recently bought a refurbished Dell optiplex with 32 gigs of ram and some i5 processor off eBay for 100€. SAS drives are really loud and consume more energy than consumer HDDs, but they last very long and are way cheaper.

Can’t wait for the bubble to pop and the used SAS HDD market to overflow with cheap hardware. Same with RAM.

Why must this he compared? The Tiananmen Square massacre was insanely inhumane. They crushed peaceful protestors on bicycles with fucking tanks. They squished the people into a pulp so they could hose them into the gutters. Israel and Russia are also evil, also on a larger scale but that doesn’t absolve China from their shit.

No no, I use Signal and it was difficult enough to get friends and family over. Many didn’t. But Signal has been the only messenger with enough pull.
- Comment on A new look for Snikket on Android 4 weeks ago:
So, this is yet another messenger that just splits the user base even further, leading to even less people moving away from the WhatsApp? Or did I get it wrong? Why not just use Signal?

Because of style. Some people like this. A couple of years ago I’d have bought this because it’s a neat looking gadget. Now I don’t have money for these unnecessary items.
- Comment on Audio dongles and the ghost of USB 1 1 month ago:
I just recently went back to a dedicated mp3/flac player. I wanted to go back to actually thinking about the music I hear and discover music myself without an algorithm telling me what to do. Even my rather cheap Shure se215, which are meant to be IEMs for musicians rather than for listening to music, sound leagues better than the Sony wf-1000xm5 I have. And they’re even better at isolating noise, without ANC. Plus no Bluetooth bullshit. Fuck that noise.
I’m sick of the way tech is going. It’s also the reason I’ve started building a home server.

- Comment on ublock Origin can get rid of Cookie Banners 1 month ago:
Alphabet is known to mess around with the algorithms so you’ll always get disgusting Nazi shit in your suggestions sooner or later. Also, a lot of people can’t back out of doom-scrolling, because of bad impulse control (people with ADHD for example). And even if there’s something informative in there. It will always lack a lot of information. It’s like merely reading the headline of an article and then going into the comments, claiming you know everything about the topic (happens on Lemmy a lot).
It’s nice that you seem to have a grip on these shorts, but it’s even greater that you can use certain tools to eradicate them. On my mobile phone I use YouTube revanced and on Firefox/waterfox I use Tweaks for YouTube. With the latter you can also change the thumbnail size and grid the way you want so you don’t have to cope with the ridiculously large thumbnails.

I always thought that charging beyond 85% or so is what degrades batteries. The LiPos of my quadcopter actually actively reduce their charge if left sitting somewhere for a longer period of time. To prevent them from going up in flames.
- Comment on Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwed - Louis Rossmann 5 months ago:
Good on you for using grapheneos! But you should always install the software you want anyway. You don’t need google photos. You can install a different launcher etc. Don’t become complacent and go with the setting out of the box. That’s the reason tech turned into shit. Consumers don’t care for it anymore.
I must admit however, that the launcher market has turned to shit though. There used to be so many more cool options to choose from.

That’s what clothes are for? Don’t fault the tech if you don’t know how to use it.
- Comment on Tesla sales plunge 40% in Europe as Chinese EV rival BYD's triple 5 months ago:
The tech is flawed? Bicycles are the most efficient mode of transportation bar none. E-Bikes just have a very efficient motor slapped onto them. It’s not the tech. I also don’t believe it’s the climate because I know for a fact that more and more people are commuting in the Philippines. If they can do it in 37 °C heat at 99% humidity, then so can you.
That said, infrastructure is the biggest flaw. And that’s something that can be changed within a couple of years, as long as people are willing to do so. The Netherlands were a car-brain shit hole in the 70s, and they made a 180 and live in fucking paradise.
Of course there are many things that absolutely require a car, but groceries isn’t one of those, unless you live in the soulless suburban sprawl that you see so often in the USA.
- Comment on Tesla sales plunge 40% in Europe as Chinese EV rival BYD's triple 5 months ago:
Ok? I bought my E-Bike 8 years ago for 1500€ and use two roller bags and grab a bit of groceries on my way back from work. It’s a 10km commute one way, so a total of 20km. It takes me a grand total of 26 minutes to get to work. The car usually takes longer due to traffic.
I mean, it’s nice having a PHEV for bigger tasks but we (family of 3) only have one car. We do plenty with our E-Bikes.
- Comment on Tesla sales plunge 40% in Europe as Chinese EV rival BYD's triple 5 months ago:
Ignorance is bliss I guess? New cars are pretty much computers on wheels that collect data. This is not a secret or anything.
I mean, fuck China and the genocide of the Uighur. It’s terrible. But I’m pretty confident that capitalism killed a whole lot more people throughout history.
