- Comment on Meta progression in roguelites was fun for a while, but it's starting to feel unrewarding 5 hours ago:
I agree. I couldn't finish Hollow Knight because my reaction times just aren't what they used to be. It sucked because otherwise I love that game. I haven't even attempted Silksong.
- Comment on Games you really want to play, but can't or won't? 2 days ago:
Ori was pretty doable for me. It helps that death has no penalty and resuming is instant. But I couldn't get through Hollow Knight and I didn't even attempt Silksong. I'm too old for that shit. Literally, I don't have the reaction time anymore.

That's a given I think. If you can't trust the OS then you can't trust the client.

Hah, not from me! It won't be the first time that I buy a game on Steam that I previously played for free on EGS, just so I can buy the DLC. I will never spend a cent on EGS.
- Comment on Lawsuit Alleges That WhatsApp Has No End-to-End Encryption 1 week ago:
With e2e you don't need to trust the servers. You only need to trust the client that does the encryption.

- Comment on Autofocusing Smart Glasses With Eye Tracking Tech Could Make Bifocals Obsolete 3 weeks ago:
Per another commenter (and the article):
When the battery dies, the glasses continue to function as a traditional pair of single-vision specs, ensuring the wearer is never left in the dark or have safety compromised such as when driving or operating machinery.
- Comment on Autofocusing Smart Glasses With Eye Tracking Tech Could Make Bifocals Obsolete 3 weeks ago:
Are these the auto-focus ones? If so, that's surprisingly slim.... If there are no other components.
- Comment on Pet Peeves with Games? 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, I don't like being shoved in an intro cinematic without being able to turn on subtitles.
- Comment on Pet Peeves with Games? 3 weeks ago:
Depends on the game. I play Jump Space that occasionally does this (not all buttons, but some). It is to ensure that you deal with enough enemies so they won't interrupt you while holding/charging the button. If you're interrupted, you need to start over. It ensures you don't simply sprint past everything while hitting the buttons.

Someone on Lemmy gifted me "Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard", an old school point & click adventure. I've been having a lot of fun with it. The voice acting is great!
I'm also almost half way through "Black Mesa" a.k.a. the Half-life 1 fan remaster. It's pretty good, but a bit unintuitive at times.
There's also a not-patient game I'm playing: "StarRupture" released in early access a few days ago. It's made by the developers of "Green Hell" which I really liked. It's like Satisfactory with much more combat and base defense. I'm only a few hours in bur so far I like it!
- Comment on If you wish Satisfactory were an FPS, try new open world game StarRupture, out now in early access 4 weeks ago:
I just started playing this, and it's fun so far! It really needs some UI/text scaling though because the subtitles ans some menu texts are so small they are barely readable on my laptop.
- Comment on ublock Origin can get rid of Cookie Banners 4 weeks ago:
If website operators didn't want to ask for consent, they should stop trying to profit for your behavioral data. But they want to sell your data and have de it from you. That's the only thing not allowed. There are plenty of sites that use cookies and don't need to show a consent banner.
- Comment on Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage 1 month ago:
Do you know where those rules are? I'm genuinly interested in where exactly they draw the line. I constantly see people ranting about gen AI when used for art, but even simple, basic code autocomplete is AI under the hood these days. I can't imagine developers not using autocomplete.
- Comment on Steam winter sale is live. What patient games are you picking up? 1 month ago:
X4 is great! But it's not really a flying game. You start off flying in a space ship yes, but by mid-game you it turns into a grand strategy game. You'll probably spend more time on the map screen and hire an AI pilot to do the flying for you. Still a great game though!

Someone I know cosplays as a Nazi. He doesn't walk around the streets wraring an armband. He goes in full military gear, riding around on an original WWII german bike with sidecar at WWII historic events. You know, like a cosplayer.

That's because Valve is privately owned and this has largely resisted the enshittification that largely plagues public companies and private equity frims.
- Comment on Helldivers 2 install size reduction effort yields 131GB in cuts, and you can try the slim build right now 2 months ago:
I can tell you why too. They fucked up the map structure at the beginning. They made the world the top level and all the dino and plant assets are under that. Not a problem in the beginning when it's just one map. But they added a second, and a third etc. and all maps needed to contain a copy of those assets. Worse, they let players transport stuff from one map to another. So if you only have the base game, your friend can come visit and use the pokeball to spawn in a couple of dragons or other DLC creature. You need to be able to see that so you need to have those assets too, even in just the base game. So, now every map needs to have a copy of all possible dinos from all DLCs. 11 maps. 11 copies of all assets. Bye bye drive space.

Not only do they feel isolated, they also feel the same. NMS technically has billions of unique planets. In practice it has about 10 or so because they all feel the same. And even those look alike because they're all sparsely populated worlds. Big stretches of emptiness filled with the occasional POI. Where are the mega city planets? The forge worlds with heavy industry? Any city with more than 100 inhabitants?

I finally started "Styx: Shards of Darkness". A stealth acrion RPG. It's been pretty fun so far. Better than the first one. I'm trying to go for the silent & deadly approach. No alarms raised in any level. So far so good!

I don't want this. I just want a robot that can fold laundry. I don't care if it can only fold 80% of it and if it takes all day for a single basket. I'd happily pay 1-2K for it too!
